Activity: Describing Climate Regions

Bioclimate profiles:
Question 1: For each bioclimate profile, in which month did the highest
temperature occur? What was the highest temperature measured? In
which month did the lowest temperature occur? What was the lowest
temperature measured?
 In Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, highest temperature is in July which is 24.2°C
and lowest temperature is in January which is −22.8°C.
 In Churchill, Manitoba, the highest temperature was in July which is 18.2°C
and lower in January which is −29.2°C.
 In Sydney, Nova Scotia, the highest temperature was in July and August,
which is 23.4°C and the lowest temperature was in February which was
9.9C.

Question 2: How does the range in temperature compare among the three
regions?
In Prince Albert, temperature range is 47°C. In Churchill, it is 47.4°C . In Sydney, it
is about 33.3°C. Prince Albert and Churchill shows more variation in temperature
than Sydney.

Question 3: For each bioclimate profile, in which month did the largest
amount of precipitation occur? What was the largest amount of
precipitation measured? In which month did the smallest amount of
precipitation occur? What was the smallest amount of precipitation
measured?
 In Prince Albert, largest precipitation occurs in June which is 86.4mm and
smallest is in February which is 11.5mm.
 In Churchill, largest precipitation occurs in in June which is 80.5 mm and the
smallest is in February, which is 13.8 mm.
 In Sydney, the largest precipitation occurs in December which is 169.8mm
and smallest is in July which is 87.3 mm.

Question 4: How does the trend in precipitation compare in the three

regions?
In Prince Albert and Churchill, more precipitations occurs in summers than winters.
In Sydney, there is precipitation throughout year and more precipitation in winter.
Question 5: For each bioclimate profile, write a brief description of the
region's climate.
 In Prince Albert, there are very cold winters and hot weather during summer.
Precipitations occur in summer. It refer to Boreal Plains ecozone and in
Koppen-Geiger system, it is called Dfb.
 In Churchill, climate is subarctic, having very cold ad long winters and cooler
summer with short duration. Overall, there are lower [Link] refers to
Taiga Shield ecozone and in Koppen-Geiger system, it is called as Dfc.
 In Sydney, there is maritime climate having normal winter and warm
summers. Throughout year, there is larger amount of precipitations
throughout year. It belongs to Atlantic Maritime ecozone and it is called Dfb
