ACTIVITY 2
QUANTITY OF MATERIALS TO BE USED FOR CONCRETE
A barangay road 6.00 meters wide and one kilometer long. After base preparation, it requires
concreting. Find the number of bags of cement. Find also the sand and gravel in cubic meters
required using class AA and class A concrete, respectively if the pavement is 6 inches thick.
GIVEN:
Road length = 1km = 1000m
Road width = 6m
Road thickness = 6in = 0.15m
SOLUTION:
V = (1000m)(6m)(0.15m) = 900 cu.m.
1. CLASS AA
Cement: 900 cu.m. (12) = 10 800 bags (40kg/bag)
900 cu.m. (9.5) = 8 550 bags (50kg/bag)
Sand: 900 cu.m. (0.5) = 450 cu.m.
Gravel: 900 cu.m. (1) = 900 cu.m.
2. CLASS A
Cement: 900 cu.m. (9) = 8 100 bags (40kg/bag)
900 cu.m. (7) = 6 300 bags (50kg/bag)
Sand: 900 cu.m. (0.5) = 450 cu.m.
Gravel: 900 cu.m. (1) = 900 cu.m.
