Communication, and Social Change

A personal exploration of how culture shapes communication and social change
Key Insight

Culture appears in Even small habits reflect Understanding culture

everything we do deeper values helps us to understand
people
From our habits and customs to The way we greet others, the By exploring the cultural context
our values and beliefs, culture is foods we eat, and the gestures that shapes an individual's
deeply ingrained every aspect of we use all stem from the cultural perspectives and behaviors, we
our lives. norms and values we have can gain deeper insights into who
acquired. they are and why they think and
act the way they do.

When we recognize that culture is a fundamental part of the human experience, we can better
appreciate the richness and diversity of the world around us.
Lessons from
Communication Styles
When comparing Vietnamese and Korean
communication styles, I realized that small
everyday behaviors - like how people interact
in groups or how carefully some Korean
students prepare their appearance before
going out - reflect very different cultural
expectations.
These simple actions show me that
communication is shaped not just by words,
but by the values and social norms we grow up
with.
Social Change in
Vietnam
Traditional idioms: “1 túp lều tranh, 2 trái tim
vàngˮ or “đàn ông xây nhà, đàn bà xây tổ
ấmˮ no longer fully match modern life.

• Now, people care about value, financial

stability & gender equality, and personal
goals.

• Culture will change when society

changes.

• This showed me that culture is not fixed;

it changes with the world around us.
Park Hang Seo Coach
• Understanding culture can create
strong connections between people.

• His success in Vietnam came not only

from his skills but also because he
understood Vietnamese values,
respected them, and communicated in
a way that felt familiar to the players.

• This taught me that cultural

understanding can build trust,
teamwork, and even national success.
👉 To communicate well, we must understand
culture.

👉 Social change asks us to rethink old values

and see how they transform over time.

👉 To work with people from different

backgrounds, we need cultural sensitivity -
observing more, judging less, and staying
open to differences.

For me, this has been more than a

assignment. It has helped me see people
more clearly and understand that behind
every behavior, there is a story shaped by
culture.
