Advanced Computer Organization 1

The document presents an overview of advanced computer organization and central processing unit (CPU) design, detailing the main components of a computer system: input unit, output unit, memory unit, and CPU. It explains the roles of the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and Control Unit (CU) within the CPU, as well as the distinction between primary and secondary memory. The CPU's basic functions include fetching, decoding, and executing instructions, highlighting its role as the brain of the computer system.

ADVANCED COMPUTER
ORGANIZATION
- is concerned with the structure and
behavior of a computer system as seen
by the user. It acts as the interface
between hardware and software. It
deals with the components of a
connection in a system.
INPUT UNIT 4 main units of a
Computer System of
OUTPUT UNIT
Basic Computer
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT Organization
MEMORY UNIT
The data entered by the user through
these devices is sent to the CPU for
processing.

INPUT UNIT
-is responsible for receiving data
and instructions from external
sources and converting them into a
form that can be processed by the
computer.
ALU - Arithmetic Logic Unit
CU - Control Unit

CENTRAL
Parts of Central Processing Unit PROCESSING UNIT
ALU - is the brain of the computer
system. It is responsible for
CU processing data and instructions
and performing arithmetic and
logical operations.
It is divided into two main categories:
Primary Memory and Secondary
Memory.

MEMORY UNIT
Primary Memory Secondary Memory
- is responsible for storing data
and instructions that are
currently being used by the CPU.
The data processed by the CPU is sent to
these output devices.

OUTPUT UNIT
- is responsible for displaying the
results of the processing to the
user.
