Science 9 Activity Worksheet

The document is a worksheet for a Science 9 asynchronous activity that requires students to watch videos on moles to mass and mass to moles conversions. It includes a series of problems related to chemical reactions where students must calculate the mass of products or moles of reactants based on given information. Students are instructed to show complete solutions and organize their answers clearly on a separate sheet of paper.

Science 9 Asynchronous Activity Worksheet

Instructions: Watch the videos provided below. After viewing, answer the following problems on one
whole sheet of paper. Show complete solutions for each item, including given information, balanced
chemical equations (if applicable), conversion factors, and final answers with correct units (box your final
answer). Your answers should be clear, organized, and based on the concepts discussed in the videos and
previous lessons.

Problem Sets: (5 points each)

MOLES TO MASS CONVERSIONS

1. Reaction:
2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O

Question:
How many grams of H₂O are produced from 4.5 mol O₂?

2. Reaction:
N₂ + 3H₂ → 2NH₃

Question:
How many grams of NH₃ are produced from 3.0 mol N₂?

3. Magnesium metal reacts with nitric acid, forming magnesium nitrate and hydrogen gas. If a
reaction uses 5.60 moles of nitric acid while magnesium is present in excess, determine the mass
(in grams) of hydrogen gas released.

Mg+HNO3→Mg(NO3)2+H2

4. In an industrial process, iron (III) oxide reacts with carbon monoxide to produce iron metal and
carbon dioxide gas. If 8.40 moles of carbon monoxide are consumed, how many grams of iron
can be formed, assuming excess iron (III) oxide?

Fe2O3+CO→Fe+CO2

5. When sodium phosphate solution is mixed with calcium chloride solution, a solid calcium
phosphate precipitate forms along with sodium chloride. If 3.25 moles of calcium chloride take
part in the reaction, calculate the total mass of sodium chloride produced, assuming sodium
phosphate is in excess.

Na3PO4+CaCl2→Ca3(PO4)2+NaCl
MASS TO MOLES CONVERSIONS
1. Reaction:
2KClO₃ → 2KCl + 3O₂

Question:
How many moles of O₂ are produced from 24.5 g KClO₃?

2. Reaction:
CaCO₃ → CaO + CO₂

Question:
How many moles of CO₂ are produced from 50.0 g CaCO₃?

3. In a laboratory reaction, an excess amount of calcium chloride is mixed with 360 grams of
sodium carbonate. If the reaction proceeds completely, how many moles of calcium carbonate
(CaCO₃) will be formed?
CaCl2+Na2CO3→CaCO3+NaCl

4. During a single displacement reaction, aluminum metal is added in excess to a solution

containing 405 grams of copper (II) sulfate. Determine the number of moles of copper metal
produced after the reaction is complete.

Al+CuSO4→Al2(SO4)3+Cu

5. A piece of potassium metal is allowed to react with 196 grams of water, with potassium present in
excess. Calculate the total moles of potassium hydroxide (KOH) that can be generated from this
reaction.
K+H2O→KOH+H2
