MODULE 7 – Job Interview

• Interviews may involve initial screenings, phone interviews, or online interviews.

• Hiring decisions are influenced by pre-interview impressions, interview performance, and post-interview
evaluations.

Three Phases of a Job Interview:

1. Pre-interview Phase:

- Review of résumé, cover letter, test scores, and online presence.

- Interviewers form early impressions before meeting the applicant.

2. Interview Phase:

- Face-to-face, phone, or online conversation.

- Factors include answers, body language, tone, and professionalism.

- Pre-interview impressions can affect how interviewers behave.

3. Post-interview Phase:

- Employers evaluate and compare applicants.

- Applicants also evaluate company fit.

Types of Interviews:

• Unstructured Interviews – conversational, flexible, but unreliable and biased.

• Structured Interviews – standardized questions and scoring; more objective and accurate.

MODULE 8 – Job Interview Etiquette

Importance of Interview Etiquette:

Good etiquette shows preparedness, respect, and professionalism. Bad behavior (lateness, poor grooming,
lack of eye contact, or use of phones) can ruin chances even for skilled applicants.

Before the Interview:

• Prepare documents and research the company.

• Dress professionally and arrive early.

• Ensure your phone is off and bring necessary materials.

During the Interview:

• Greet confidently with a smile and good posture.

• Maintain eye contact and speak clearly.

• Avoid slang, jokes, chewing gum, or unnecessary movements.

• Ask thoughtful questions.

• Accept water if offered to help stay calm.

After the Interview:

• Thank the interviewer.

• Send a follow-up thank-you note.

6. Panel Interviews – several interviewers evaluate one applicant.

7. Video & Remote Interviews – require good technical setup and professional background.

8. Phone Interviews – usually initial screenings; require clear communication.

9. Lunch Interviews – conducted over a meal; observe manners and professionalism.
