Project- Dashboard Development Using Tableau & Data Analysis
The objective of this project is to:
• Apply data visualization techniques using Tableau
• Create dashboards
• Derive meaningful insights from dashboards using real-world datasets
• Communicate findings effectively through dashboards and reports
The project is about communicating through visualization. Tell a story with your data- what
happened? Why it happened? What should be done next? Focus on clarity over complexity.
Provide insightful analysis, not just visuals
Academic Integrity
• Use of AI for writing the report will result in penalties
• Plagiarism will result in penalties
Dataset Selection
Select your own dataset from Sample Data | Tableau Public Superstore Dataset is not
allowed for this project since that dataset has been used in class practice assignments.
Make sure it is xls or xlsx file. DO not use a dataset which is a CSV file.
The dataset must have
• Minimum 500 rows
• At least:
o One time variable (e.g., Date, Year)
o One categorical variable
o One numerical variable
o Optional Geographical variable
Project Tasks
1. Data Preparation
• Import dataset into Tableau
• Create calculated fields if necessary
2. Dashboard Development
Create at least 4 dashboards from the list given below. You may choose any other type of
dashboard.
Dashboard 1: Overview
• Key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Summary charts
• Time-based trends
Dashboard 2: Category / Segment Analysis
• Comparison across categories/groups
• Distribution visualizations
Dashboard 3: Trend Analysis
• Time-series analysis
• Pattern identification
Dashboard 4: Relationship Analysis
• Correlation between variables
• Scatter plots or similar visuals
Dashboard 5: Geographical Analysis
• Map-based visualization (if applicable)
Report Structure
Submit a structured report (1500–2500 words). Add screenshots in the report wherever
applicable.
1. Introduction
• Provide a background of the dataset. Write about any changes you make to the
dataset for your analysis.
• Describe objective of analysis
3. Dashboards
• Brief write-up about each dashboard
• Give reasons for visualization choices for each dashboard
• Give small description of each KPI selected
4. Analysis & Insights
• Provide key insights derived from each dashboard
• Use screenshots of dashboards for insights
5. Recommendations
• Provide actionable suggestions based on findings from each dashboard
6. Limitations
This section is optional. Write about any constraints in your analysis. For example, data
constraints or any assumptions you made.
7. Conclusion
• Give a summary of key findings
