2017/2024 Academic Year, Semester I
Module Name (Code): Cardiovascular and Lymphatic System (CVLS 2062)
Module Outline/Plan
Module Coordinator: Mr. Adugnaw A, Lecturer, Physiology Unit Office, Mobile Number 0921287748
ECTS: 12 (8 Weeks) Target Group: Preclinical Year I (2015 Entry Students)
Module Duration: Oct 21 – Dec 13/2024

Module Description:
This system-based module is intended to equip medical students with profound knowledge of basic sciences and development of early clinical
skills relevant to understanding of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system and related clinical problems. Students will also develop relevant
competencies with the Medical expertise, Scholar, Collaborator, Communicator, Manager, Health Advocate and Professional. This module is
given on the second semester during the second year of the pre-clerkship period of the undergraduate medical education program.
Module Objective
By the end of this module, students will be able to apply knowledge of basic sciences for understanding the cardiovascular and lymphatic system
and analyzing disorder of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system.
Supporting objectives
 Apply knowledge of the normal structures and functions of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system in analyzing clinical problems
 Apply principles of physiologicmechanisms and processes of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system in analyzing clinical problems
 Apply principles of human life cycle, growth, development and aging of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system in analyzing clinical
problems including developmental anomalies
 Identify the various causes of a disease (genetic, developmental, metabolic, toxic, infectious, autoimmune, neoplastic, degenerative and
traumatic) of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system and analyze the pathogenesis in clinical problems
 Analyze the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used in the treatment of disorders of the cardiovascular and lymphatic
system
 Apply important determinants and risk factors affecting cardiovascular and lymphatic diseases to protect and promote individual and
population health
 Demonstrate taking history from the patient with cardiovascular and lymphatic system disorder in a simulated setting.
 Demonstrate physical examination pertinent to with cardiovascular and lymphatic system disorder in a simulated setting.
 Perform basic investigations in the diagnosis of cardiovascular and lymphatic system disorders
 Demonstrate making an initial assessment of a clinical problem related to cardiovascular and lymphatic system in a simulated setting.
 Discuss important life style, genetic, demographic, environment, health system, social, economic, psychological and cultural
determinants of cardiovascular and lymphatic system disorders.
 Contribute to a culture that promotes patient safety
