Introduction
Florists work with flowers and plant material to create exemplary floral
arrangements for the retail sector or on commissioned projects to create exemplary
displays such as for weddings or event displays. They offer advice and translate a
client’s vision into displays that are beautiful and captivating. They require being
innovative, creative and need to have business acumen and excellent interpersonal
skills when dealing with clients. Florist need to demonstrate artistic and design
talent that incorporates aesthetics and practicalities. Excellent levels of customer
care and sales skills are crucial. They require the skill to interpreting a theme and
working effectively with a large team and other professionals in a high-pressure
situation with tight time limitations.
A florist will use his expertise and knowledge of flowers, plants, botanical materials
and accessories to produce floral works. A florist must be respectful of the raw
materials with which they work and apply extensive knowledge of effective
sourcing, purchasing and storage of all botanical materials. The florist must apply
the rules and theory of composition, colour and technique as valid by the floristry
trade worldwide, and show clear ideas (principles and elements of floral design) in
his work.
Eligibility Criteria: Competitors born on or after 1 January 2004 are eligible to attend
the Competition.
Test Projects: 3 Tasks
Familiarization: 1 hour (This time is separate from that allocated to the Test project)
Total Duration: 5.00 Hrs
Test project 1: 1 hrs 15mins (Cut flower arrangement)
Test project 2: 1 hrs 30 min (Hand tried Bouquet)
Test project 3: 2 hrs 15mins (Body adornment)

Task Details
TASK: Cut flower arrangement
Time: 1.15 Hrs
Instructions:
1. Create a large design for a Diwali party
2. Choice of Material: Free
3. Container: Use any from the given ones
4. Technique: Free
5. The completed test project will be judged with the container
6. The completed test project may be moved for assessment. Competitor will
display the design as instructed.

TASK: Hand-tied bouquet
Time: 1.30 Hrs
Instructions:
1. Competitor should prepare a hand tied bouquet for the guest of Honor at closing
ceremony of State level skills competition.
2. Flowers – Can use any from those provided by organisers
3. Bouquet for judging should be presented in any one of the provided vases.
4. The hand tied bouquet will NOT be judged in the vase.
5. Technique: Spiral The completed test project must be displayed as instructed on
the table provided.

Test Project 3
TASK: Hand-tied bouquet
Time: 2.15 Hrs
Instructions:
1. Competitor should prepare a FLORAL NECKPIECE for a to be bride for her
bridal shower. Bride to be is going to wear light pink colour dress for the
occasion. (Pic provided)
2. Technique: Free
3. Choice of material: Free
4. The jewellery should be wearable without harming the bride and should
not cause damage to her clothes.
5. The Jewellery will need to be displaced appropriately for Judging. Display
of the jewellery will be indicated by the jury.

Instructions for Candidates
1. Candidate must wear the prescribed personnel clothing/footwear while
performing the task and ensure safety of equipment and personnel’s working
around his workstation.
2. Candidate should remain present at the Competition venue 30 min before start
of work
3. All candidates would be allotted the same time (as mentioned in the test
project) to complete the task, no further extension would be given to anyone
unless specified by Jury.
4. Candidates must follow the instructions given by Jury.
5. Candidate must dispose-off the environmentally harmful products carefully.
6. In case of any difficulty the candidate must seek support of Jury members.
7. There will be 30 minutes extra given at the end of the day for cleaning.
Health, Safety, and Environment
1. All accredited participants and supporting volunteers will abide by rules and
regulations with regards to Health, Safety, and Environment of the Competition
venue.
2. All participants, technicians and supporting staff will wear the required protective
personnel clothing.
3. All participants will assume liability for all risks of injury and damage to property,
loss of property, which might be associated with or result from participation in
the event. The organizers will not be liable for any damage; however in case of
Injury the competitor will immediately inform the immediate organizer for

medical attention.
4. Knowledge and understanding of arrangement of material and also care of
materials:
Understand care and handling of materials.
Competitors shall be able to:
Treat all given botanical material with respect. (Treat and condition all botanical
materials to ensure the ultimate longevity)
• Maintain the condition of botanical material as fresh as possible. (Maintain
the best possible condition of botanical materials during the competition
time (all days of the competition)
• Cut botanical material if necessary.
• Fertilise botanical material as required.
• Cool down botanical material if necessary.
• Keep working station clean and tidy after each task and after each
competition day
• Create and maintain an aesthetic display of the materials you choose to keep
in your working station, to ensure the best quality of materials and a good
experience for the visitors of World Skills
• Care for the use of and keeping/maintenance of tools
Materials, Equipment and Tools supplied by
Organizers
1. 100% of material to be used during the competition will be provided by the
organizers e.g. Cut flowers, plants, cut foliage, decorative accessories and
technical material (technical aids) and containers.
2. All materials other than surprise project materials will be available during the
familiarization day for Competitors before the Competition starts excluding the
surprise boxes;
3. All the material necessary to complete each module will be provided.
4. All material must be available on the familiarization day;
5. All botanical material must be correctly scientifically named and must arrive at
optimum level of freshness, not more than two days prior to day one of the
Competition.

6. They must arrive already distributed for individual Competitors. The material
must arrive already in water.
7. A minimum of ten additional buckets should be distributed to each Competitor;
8. All botanical material must be delivered on time (ordered by Experts) at the
Competition site;
9. Material to be prepared by the Workshop Manager and conditioned and
distributed as agreed by a panel of Experts.
10. Cold storage of flowers and materials
11. Flowers must be stored with a minimum temperature of 3°C and a maximum
temperature of 10°C.
