Digital Assignment - II

1. A 1000 kVA, 110/220 volt, 50 Hz single phase transformer has an

efficiency of 98.5% at half load and 0.8 power factor leading. Whereas its
efficiency at full load and unity power factor is 98.9%. Determine (i) iron
loss (ii) Full load copper loss.

2. A 20 kVA 200/100 V transformer has the following parameters:

R1=0.2Ohms, R2=0.02Ohms, X1=0.4Ohms, X2=0.04Ohms, Ri=2kOhms,
Xm=1.1kOhms (as seen from high voltage side). Determine efficiency and
voltage regulation when the transformer is supplying full-load at 0.8
lagging power factor on the secondary side at rated voltage.

3. A 8kVA, 400/120V, 50Hz transformer has the following test data:

OC test (LV side) : 120V, 4A, 75W
SC test (HV side) : 9.5V, 20A, 110W
Calculate,
i. Equivalent circuit constants with approximate equivalent circuit
ii. Voltage regulation at full load 0.8 lagging power factor
iii. Efficiency at full load 0.8 power factor
iv. Efficiency at half full load and 0.8 power factor

4. A 250/500V transformer gave the following test result:

Short-circuit test with low voltage winding short-circuited: 20 V, 12A,
100W.
Open-circuit test: 250V, 1A, 80W on the low-voltage side.
Determine the equivalent circuit parameters. Calculate the applied voltage
and efficiency when the output is 10A at 500V and 0.8pf lagging.

5. The primary and secondary windings of a 500kVA ,1 phase transformer

have resistances of 0.4 ohms and 0.0015 ohms respectively. The primary
and secondary voltages are 6000V and 400V respectively. And the iron
loss is 3.2kW. Calculate the efficiency on,
i) Full load
ii) Half load
Assume the power factor of the load to be 0.8.

6. A 150 kVA, single phase transformer has an iron loss of 1400 W and full
load copper loss of 1600 W. Find the efficiency of the transformer at 50%
of full load at,
i. Unity power factor
ii. 0.8 power factor lagging

7. The maximum efficiency of a 50 kVA, 300/100 V, 60 Hz, single-phase

transformer is 80% and occurs at 70% of full load, unity power factor. If
the impedance is 2%, calculate the regulation at full-load at 0.8 lagging and
leading power factor.

8. The efficiency of a 400kVA single-phase transformer was 98.77% when

delivering full load at 0.8pf and 99.13% at half load and unity power factor.
Calculate the iron losses and full-load copper losses.
