Introduction to Structural Loads
Structural engineering design begins with identifying and applying loads acting on a structure.
Types of Loads:
- Dead Load (DL): Self-weight of structural and non-structural components.
- Live Load (LL): Variable loads due to occupancy.
- Wind Load (WL): Lateral forces due to wind.
- Seismic Load (EQ): Forces due to earthquakes.
- Snow Load (SL): Load from snow accumulation.
Example Load Combinations:
1.5(DL + LL)
1.2(DL + LL + WL)
Proper load estimation ensures safety and serviceability.
