It is also available as a PDF document in the dataset for this course.
OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition QuickStart
Finishing the P&ID
This hands-on workbook contains exercises for getting started with Bentley’s OpenPlant PID. The student will
learn to annotate the pipe runs with text and flow arrows and then place pipe run connectors to connect the
process lines to other P&IDs. Finally, they will learn to edit the P&ID by moving pipe runs using handles and to
change an existing valve actuator via the properties dialog.

Description and Objectives
Course Description
This is the fourth of four courses for the OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition QuickStart.
The student will learn to annotate the pipe runs with text and flow arrows and then place pipe run connectors to connect the process lines to
other P&IDs. Finally, they will learn to edit the P&ID by moving pipe runs using handles and to change an existing valve actuator via the
properties dialog.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to…

Installing the Dataset
You should have downloaded a dataset. The following steps will guide you to installing the dataset.
1. Make sure all applications are closed.
2. Unzip Finishing PID_TRNC03185-10001_Dataset.zip to your desktop.
3. Move the Training [Link] to the C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlant CONNECT
Edition\Configuration\Workspaces\WorkSpace\WorkSets\OpenPlantImperial\WorkFiles\Models\PID folder.
Exercise 01: Annotate the Pipelines
In this exercise you will annotate the pipelines that you added.
1. Window area into the right side of the drawing near H-100.
2. Select Piping > Piping Galleries > Pipeline Annotations.
3. Select Size-Run-Tag from the Component Gallery.
4. Hover over line L103 as it enters the furnace.
The line annotation is ghosted on the cursor.
5. Click to place the annotation above the line.

Exercise 03: Place a Connector
In this exercise you will place a connector.
1. Window into the left side of the drawing around pipeline L100.
2. Select Piping > Piping Galleries > Connectors.
3. Select Pipe Run Page.
The following dialog opens.
a. The New Page Connector should be enabled in the Link Connector To
group box.
b. Click OK.
The following dialog opens.
a. Select ON in the Insert By field.
