A critical study on individual and organizational Stress Management

Rationale of the study:


Corporate world along with market is becoming more complex everyday due to globalization, which sets higher requirements to those companies that wants to stay competitive in the market. Also development of information technology and systems has led to a rapid changing in the business environment where time efficiency becomes one of the most important prerequisites for success. Competitive pressure is making companies eliminate costs (that also include human resource) and increasing the usage of computer softwares which are allowing the full application of computer software, thereby mounting more expectations on quality rather than quantity of human resources. With such changes becoming vogue, more pressure is put on the management of human resource, as it has become more crucial than earlier days to develop the right knowledge and skills of companies employees. These are employees are engaged in the profit gaining activities of business. They have certain influence on customers satisfaction; procure requirements and projects from their clients and work on it to provide them the required output thereby gaining trust from the clients and thus staying ahead of their competitors. HRM is receiving enormous popularity these days, and as companies start to take more care of their employees, they have realized employees value to a much greater extent than before. In order to increase work effectiveness and performance, it is important to address a number of issues, including increasing motivation among the employees, making them feel satisfied with their job, and increase their job-related well-being in general. Though organizations address some issues related to human resources, it is the resources themselves who stand in the forefront in experiencing the pressure and stress due to the competition in current world. In order to overcome such emotional situation, individuals too employ various measures to keep stress at a distance.

Caring of the employees and the measurement to tackle problems are increasing at a very high rate, as the entire globe is now knowledge driven and humans play a very vital role in upbringing of more avenues and opportunities in this demanding world.

Objective of the study:

To study the sources of stress in corporate environment, especially in software industry. To find the effect of stress on individuals as well as corporate environment. To identify the techniques adopted by individuals through which their life leads to high satisfaction.

To identify and analyze the measures, organizations have employed to handle stress and its relative problems.

To know the existing working conditions, Industrial Health and safety help to improve the quality of work life.

To study the workers participation in software industry. To know how the various welfare activities and other benefits helps to decrease stress levels.

To complement existing Foundation data and research on working time - largely based on surveys of individual workers and on literature reviews .

Research Methodology:
The purpose of this thesis is mostly explorative. An exploratory type of research is used to make a clearer understanding of the chosen problem, which is felt as required. The main focus of the project is to understand the sources of stress, affecting the well being and the measures taken to tackle it, i.e. find out how they reliable are each practice in handling stress, both the corporate measures and individual methods in increasing job performance and also maintaining ones wellbeing.

Expected contribution from the study:


According to this study work environment factors also have noticeable influence on employees well-being and performance. Therefore by being aware of the influence of the environmental factors, managers can better realize how these factors contribute to job performance of their employees and to company as a whole. The findings of this research are, thus, of great significance for managers as well as for the individuals in understanding their betterment by employing various methods to cope with pressure and contribute to their well being.

Limitations:

This study concentrates mainly on the workers working in Software companies; therefore the findings are restricted to only Software company employees.

The project shall only include data obtained through observed, documented, experienced and expert opinions, which will restrict the project from understanding psychological aspects of stress.

External environment variables are not completely covered in the project, as we cannot cover the influence of every variable that cannot be controlled and monitored.

The study results cannot be completely applicable universally and are restricted to only related areas.

Direction for future research:


A good recommendation for further research would be to test and supplement present research results conducting experiment and exploring how every particular factor influences well-being and performance of employee at the exact point of time. The stressors chosen for the study provided sufficient ground for linking the two concepts together where many environmental stressors that could act as a tie between well-being and performance, such as relations with colleagues, their general well-being not related to work and work responsibilities and researching them further would be a good idea.
