ModelForge: The ML Showdown
Competitive Machine Learning event designed to test participants’ ability to build robust,
generalizable ML models under real-world constraints.
DAY 2

(Joint Tech Lead-GDG, 4th Year - CSE)
Event Summary
ModelForge: The ML Showdown is a competitive machine learning event designed to test
participants’ ability to build robust, generalizable ML models under real-world constraints.
Teams will receive a problem statement and dataset one week prior to the event, allowing
them to explore data, engineer features, and train models.
The challenge culminates in an on-campus finale where shortlisted teams will be evaluated
on a completely unseen dataset. Models will be judged purely on performance metrics,
emphasizing feature engineering, model selection, and overfitting control rather than
hard-coding or data leakage.
This event mirrors industry-level ML workflows and Kaggle-style competitions.
Event Roadmap
Phase 1: Problem Release (T-7 Days)
● Problem statement and training dataset released
● Teams will build their model
Phase 2: Pre-Submission Round (T-48 Hours)
● Teams submit:
o Trained model (with Code)
o Approach summary
● Submissions evaluated on a hidden validation set
● Top 5–8 teams selected for the on-campus finale
Phase 3: Grand Finale (On-Campus | 4 Hours)
📍 Venue: School Building Auditorium / Central Library
⏳ Duration: 4 Hours
Finale Workflow:
1. Teams receive a new unseen test dataset
2. They run their pre-built models on this dataset
3. Predictions are submitted within the given time (They can make changes in their
model)
4. Scores are calculated using predefined evaluation metrics
o (e.g., Accuracy / F1-Score / RMSE / AUC – based on problem)
5. Live leaderboard generated
Phase 4: Results & Winners
● Leaderboard ranks teams in real time
● Top 3 teams declared as:
o Winner
o Runner-up
o Second Runner-up
