Competency: Type alphabets and words by following the correct hand position on
a keyboard to develop keyboarding skills.
Topic: Computer Keyboard
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each child should be able to
● tell the purposes and functions of a computer keyboard.
● identify the different types of keys on a keyboard, including alphabets,
numbers, special characters, and function keys.
● identify each key on a keyboard to improve typing speed.
● practice typing skills through online games and activities.

Lesson Description
This lesson introduces students to the computer keyboard and learns typing
alphabets, numbers, and special characters. By watching a video students know
different types of keys on the keyboard and play an online game to practice
locating each key. Students have the opportunity to improve typing skills by
playing typing games. Through these activities, students learn the importance of
proper hand positioning, finger placement, and posture when keyboarding.
Students track their progress and identify areas needed to improve their
keyboarding skills.
Introduction
To introduce the lesson, ask students to write alphabet letters in a
notebook and ask them the following questions.
1. What tool did you use to write the alphabet letters in your
10 mins
notebook?
2. Can we use a pencil and eraser to write on a computer?
After this, let them know that a keyboard is used to write or type
alphabets on a computer. Show the keyboard and allow students to
look at the keyboard and see its structure.
Learning Experiences 80 mins
Activity 1: Identifying types of keys in the keyboard.
Let students watch the video -

about the different keys available on the keyboard. After watching the
video ask students to tell at least two different types of keys(alphabets,
number, special, and function keys).
Activity 2: Identifying the location of each key in the keyboard.
To identify where each key is located in the keyboard, let the students
play a game from a link -
[Link] While playing
games students can also refer to their keyboards.
After playing the game ask the following questions.
1. What skill did you learn from the game?
2. How did you manage to complete the challenge in the game?
3. Did this game help you to know the location of each key on the
keyboard?
Activity 3: Practicing typing skills through typing game
Provide students with the typing games website link -
[Link] Then, ask the following
questions to check students' understanding:
1. What was the most difficult part of the game?
2. What skills were developed after playing the game?
Assessment/closure 10 mins
Summarize the lesson by mentioning the key points.
● Computer keyboard is used to type alphabetical letters,
numbers, and special characters.
● Knowing the location of keys helps in improving typing skills.
● Typing games help to improve typing skills.
Do It Yourself
To enhance typing skills, let students play typing games from the link -
[Link] during free time at school or at home.
Ask students to share which games they played and what skills they learned from
the game.
