JEE Mains – Modern Physics PYQs with Solutions

Q1. The de Broglie wavelength of an electron accelerated through a potential V is λ = 12.27 / √V Å.

Find λ for V = 100 eV.
Solution: λ = 12.27 / √100 = 12.27 / 10 = 1.227 Å.

Q2. Light of frequency f is incident on a metal with threshold frequency f■.

What is the kinetic energy of emitted electrons?
Solution: KE = h(f – f■).

Q3. In hydrogen atom, energy of nth orbit is –13.6/n² eV.

Find energy difference between n=3 and n=2.
Solution: E2 = –3.4 eV, E3 = –1.51 eV → ∆E = 1.89 eV.

Q4. A radioactive sample has half-life 5 days.

If initial activity is A■, find activity after 10 days.
Solution: A = A■/4.

Q5. Mass defect of a nucleus is 0.03 u.

Find binding energy. (1 u = 931 MeV)
Solution: BE = 0.03 × 931 = 27.93 MeV.
