Science Lesson Plan – Class 4 (ERI Book)

Month: November

UNIT 3– ECOSYSTEM
WEEK 1 (3rd–7th November)
Day 1:
Topic: Introduction to Ecosystem(Page 23)
Classwork:Explain what is an ecosystem and identify its components (living and non-living
things) and the teacher will write vocabulary words .
Activity: Show pictures of different ecosystems (forest, desert, pond, etc.).
Homework: Make a title page and Draw and label a simple ecosystem in your notebook.
Day 2:
Topic: Components of an Ecosystem(Biotic and Abiotic Components)
Classwork: Discuss Biotic Factors(producers, consumers, and decomposers)and Abiotic
Factors(Sunlight,Water,Air,Soil) and complete the table on page 25.
Activity: Classify objects/pictures as living or non-living.
Day 3:

Classwork: Teacher will cover Question 1 and 3 of the “Stop and Ask Yourself” exercise on Page
25 in copy.

Homework:Do Question 2 of the “Stop and Ask Yourself” exercise on Page 25

Day 4: .
Topic: Types of Ecosystems and Importance of Ecosystems
Classwork: Explain terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Activity: Show short videos or pictures of both types.
Homework: Write the difference between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

WEEK 2 (10th–14th November)


Day 1:
Topic: Food Chain
Classwork: Discuss how plants and animals depend on each other and discuss the concept of
food chain.
Activity: Make a simple food chain on the board.
Homework: Draw a food chain in your notebook.
Day 2:
Topic:Various Links in the Food Chain
Classwork:The teacher will explain pg 27 and 28.

Homework:Write two examples each of producers, consumers, and decomposers.

Day 3:

Classwork: Teacher will cover Question 1 and 2 of the “Stop and Ask Yourself” exercise on Page
28 in copy.

Homework:Learn classwork done in notebook.

Day 4:

Topic:Balance within an Ecosystem

Classwork:Teacher will discuss the importance of balance within an ecosystem and disturbances
in an ecosystem(Weather,Climate Changes,Storm,Fire or introduction of new population) .

Homework:Write down the effects of disturbances in an ecosystem on food


producers,consumers and nonliving things(any onedisturbance).

WEEK 3 (17th–21st November)

Day 1:

Topic: Human Impact on Ecosystem(Paragraph 3,Page no 29) and Ways to preserve ecosystem.
Activity: Show pictures showing human impacts.
Homework: Write five points on how to protect/preserve ecosystems.

Day 2

Classwork: Teacher will cover Question 1 ,2 and 3 of the “Stop and Ask Yourself” exercise on
Page 29 in copy.

Homework:Do Question 4 of the “Stop and Ask Yourself” exercise on Page 29 in copy.

Day 3:

Classwork:Complete book exercises 1,2,3,5,6 and 7 on Page 30 and 31.

Day 4:

Classwork:Complete Q 4 on book pg 31.

Activity:Visit the school garden if possible.

Classwork: Explain the Sun and its family of planets(pg 85,86 and 87) and the teacher will write
vocabulary words .

Classwork: Briefly discuss all eight planets, their order, and main features and explain what
makes earth suitable for life(pg 88).
Homework: Do stop and ask yourself pg 88 .

Day 3:

Topic: The Moon and the lunar cycle


Classwork: Explain lunar cycle and phases of the moon(pg 89-90).
Homework: Do stop and ask yourself pg 91.
Day 4:

Topic:Earth's Motion

Classwork:Explain rotation of earth(pg92,93)and effects of rotation of earth(pg 94)

Activity: Demonstrate rotation using a globe and lamp.
