Tutorial Sheet1

The document is a tutorial sheet for a Signal Processing subject, containing five questions that cover various topics including system properties (linearity, time invariance, stability, causality), signal representation, periodicity of discrete-time signals, convolution and correlation of signals, and z-transform calculations. Each question requires analysis or computation related to specific signals or systems. The tutorial is designed to assess understanding of fundamental concepts in signal processing.

Q1. Check for the linearity, time invariance, stability, causality and dynamic for the following
systems:

(i) y[n] = 5+x[2n]

(ii) y[n] = 2x[n+1] + [x(n-1)]2
(iii) y[n]=nx[n]+x[n+2]+y[n-2]
(iv) y[n]=-ax[n-1]+x[n]
(v) y[n] = 3y2[n-1] –nx[n]+4x[n-1]-x[n+1], n≥0

Q2. Express the following signals as sum of singular or elementary functions (i.e. impulse ẟ[n],
unit step u[n], and ramp r[n])

(i) 1

-2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 n

(ii)

2 3 4 n

(iii)
x(t)

-2 -1 0 1 2 t

Q3. Determine whether the following discrete-time signals are periodic or not? If periodic,
determine the fundamental period.

(i) sin[0.02πn]
(ii) sin[5πn]
(iii) cos[n/6]cos[nπ/6]
(iv) sin[2πn/3] + cos[2πn/5]
(v) 1+ e j2πn/3 –ej4πn/7

Q4. Calculate and draw the convolution output and correlation sequences for the following pair
of signals.

(a) x1[n] = {1, 2, 3} and h1[n] = {1 , 2, 1, 2, 1}

(b) x2[n] = {1, 3, 2, 4} and h2[n] = { 2, 2 , 1, 1 2 }

(c) x3[n] = {3, 3, 4}and h3[n] = {3, 2, 1}

(d) x4[n] = {-2, 3, 4}and h4[n] = {2, 1, 3, 4}

(iii) x[n] = nanu[n]
(iv) x[nT] = (nT)2 u[nT]
