Specification
2. SPECIFICATION
2.1 Type of Vessel
2.1.1 The crane is to be mounted on a normally unmanned Fixed Offshore Platform with a
Jacket Substructure
2.2 Required Loading and Working Radius
2.2.1 The crane must be able to lift a load of 6.5Te at a working radius of 28m
2.3 Design Life
2.3.1 The crane should be designed for a working life of 25 years
2.4 Location
2.4.1 The crane is to be located on the top deck of the topside structure above the main
tubular leg section which interfaces with the Jacket. This is a non-explosive and non-
hazardous environment
2.5 Crane Type
2.5.1 The crane should be of the Pedestal mounted type. The Pedestal crane support will be
a tubular section OD2200x40mm

Crane SpecificationCrane
Specification
2.6 Boom Type
2.6.1 The boom type shall be specified by the supplier
2.7 Required Loading and Working Radius
2.7.1 The crane must be able to lift a load of 6.5Te at a working radius of 28m
2.8 Required Degree of Rotational Freedom
2.8.1 The crane should have 360⁰ of rotational freedom.
(Note: 270⁰ rotational freedom may be considered if there is a significant reduction
in cost)
2.9 Lift Height/Depth
2.9.1 The base of the crane will be up to 50m above the sea surface, so the crane must be
capable of lifting from this height plus the 28m boom length, and a margin of error to
account for the vertical movement of the supply/construction vessel due to wave
effects on the boat. The crane will not be used for subsea lifting.
2.10 Environmental Operating Conditions
2.10.1 The crane should be designed in accordance with the environmental operating
conditions stated in the Primary Standard. The crane should be capable of operating in
a temperature range from -10⁰C to +30⁰C. The operating environment is a highly
corrosive atmosphere and material selection should take this into account. Sufficient
corrosion protection should be provided.
2.11 Drive System
2.11.1 The drive system should be of an Electro-Hydraulic type. All hydraulic packs and
motors must be air cooled; there shall be no chill water or sea water provision for this
purpose. The maximum incoming temperature of this cooling air should be no higher
than 30⁰C.
2.11.2 The manufacture, handling and installation of all hydraulic fluid power components
should conform to ISO 10949:2002.
2.12 Power Requirements
2.12.1 In accordance with the Primary Standard the installed power shall be no less than the
highest required power for;
1. Full hoisting speed and 50% luffing speed, or
2. Full hoisting speed and 50% slewing speed
2.13 Hook, Luff and Slew Speeds
2.13.1 Hook, luff and slew speeds must be at least equal to class society minimums
2.14 Personnel Lifting Capability
2.14.1 Personnel Lifting Capability is not required

2.15 Operators Cabin, Controls and Displays
2.15.1 Operators Cabin is not required
2.15.2 A control panel shall be located in a safe location near to the crane and shall be
protected from environmental damage when not in use
2.15.3 The location of the control panel should give good visibility of all loading areas
2.15.4 All controls shall conform to the Primary Standard and shall consist of at least two
levers/joysticks controlling the motion of the boom and the hoisting of the cable, as
well as all necessary safety controls and indicators
2.16 Safety and Emergency Devices
2.16.1 The crane shall be fitted with safety devices in accordance with the Primary Standard
and shall include;
Emergency stop
Manual Overload Protection System (MOPS)
Automatic Overload Protection System (AOPS)
Emergency Power system in case of main power system failure
