SALES AND PROFIT ANALYSIS DASHBOARD

1. Introduction

This report presents a comprehensive analysis of business sales performance using a structured dataset.
The project focuses on product sales (quantity, price, profit), regions, and customer segments. Key tasks
include identifying top-selling products, comparing profit across regions, and creating interactive filters
for dynamic data exploration. The ultimate output is an interactive dashboard that transforms raw data
into actionable business insights.

2. Aim and Objectives

Aim: To analyze sales and profit data and develop an interactive dashboard that enables effective
business decision-making.

Objectives:

· To construct a dataset containing product sales, profit, regions, and customer segments

· To identify top-selling products based on quantity and revenue

· To compare profit performance across different geographical regions

· To analyze customer behavior by segment

· To implement interactive filters (slicers) for dynamic data exploration

· To present findings through an interactive dashboard

3. Dataset Description

The dataset simulates a real-world retail environment with 12 product records. It includes seven key
attributes:

Attribute Description

Product Name Name of the product sold

Quantity Number of units sold

Price Selling price per unit ($)

Sales Total revenue = Quantity × Price ($)

Profit Profit earned from each sale ($)

Region Geographical area (North, South, East, West)

Customer Segment Customer category (Consumer, Corporate, Home Office)

4. Dataset (Constructed)
Product Name Quantity Price ($) Sales ($) Profit ($) Region Customer Segment

Laptop 12 500 6000 1200 North Consumer

Phone 25 300 7500 1500 South Corporate

Tablet 18 200 3600 900 West Home Office

Headphones 40 50 2000 500 East Consumer

Monitor 15 150 2250 600 North Corporate

Keyboard 50 30 1500 400 South Consumer

Mouse 60 20 1200 300 West Home Office

Printer 10 250 2500 700 East Corporate

Speaker 22 80 1760 450 North Consumer

Webcam 30 70 2100 550 South Home Office

Hard Drive 28 100 2800 800 West Corporate

Charger 45 25 1125 280 East Consumer

5. Tasks Completed

Task 1: Identify Top-Selling Products

Top 5 Products by Quantity Sold:

Rank Product Name Quantity Sold

1 Mouse 60

2 Keyboard 50

3 Charger 45

4 Headphones 40

5 Webcam 30
Insight: Lower-priced accessories (Mouse, Keyboard, Charger) drive the highest sales volume, while
high-cost items like Laptop and Printer sell fewer units.

Task 2: Compare Profit Across Regions

Total Profit by Region:

Rank Region Total Profit ($)

1 South 2,450

2 North 2,250

3 West 2,000

4 East 1,780

Insight: The South region is the most profitable, followed closely by the North. The East region shows
the lowest profit, indicating potential for improved sales strategies.

Task 3: Create Interactive Filters

Interactive filters (slicers) were created for the following fields:

· Product Name – Filter by individual products

· Region – Filter by North, South, East, or West

· Customer Segment – Filter by Consumer, Corporate, or Home Office

How filters work: When a user selects a filter value (e.g., "North" region), all charts and tables on the
dashboard update automatically to show only data matching that selection. Multiple filters can be
applied simultaneously.
6. Methodology

Step Activity

1 Data Construction: Created dataset with 12 products including quantity, price, profit, region, and
customer segment

2 Data Preparation: Organized data in Excel; verified no missing values

3 Calculations: Sales = Quantity × Price; Profit assigned based on business margins

4 Data Analysis: Used Pivot Tables to summarize top products, profit by region, and sales by segment

5 Visualization: Created bar chart, column chart, and pie chart

6 Interactive Filters: Added slicers for product, region, and customer segment

7 Dashboard Assembly: Combined all elements into a single interactive dashboard

7. Dashboard Components

Component Type Purpose

Top-Selling Products Bar Chart Shows 5 products with highest quantity sold

Profit by Region Column Chart Compares total profit across four regions

Sales by Customer Segment Pie Chart Displays percentage contribution of each segment

Interactive Filters Slicers Enables dynamic filtering by product, region, and segment

Data Table Table Displays full dataset for reference

8. Analysis and Findings

Finding 1: Top-Selling Products

· Mouse (60 units) and Keyboard (50 units) are the best-selling products

· Low-cost accessories dominate sales volume

· High-value products like Laptop and Printer have lower quantity but higher per-unit profit

Finding 2: Profit by Region

· South region: $2,450 (highest profit)

· North region: $2,250 (second highest)

· East region: $1,780 (lowest profit – improvement opportunity)

Finding 3: Customer Segments

· Corporate segment contributes the highest sales ($15,050)

· Consumer segment follows ($12,885)

· Home Office contributes the least ($8,500)

9. Interactive Dashboard Design

The dashboard includes the following interactive features:

Slicers (Filters):

· Product filter – drop-down or multi-select

· Region filter – North, South, East, West

· Customer Segment filter – Consumer, Corporate, Home Office

Dynamic Behavior:

· Selecting a region updates all charts to show only that region's data

· Selecting a product highlights its performance across metrics

· Combined filters allow deep-dive analysis

Example Use:

· Filter by Region = "North" → Shows only North region products (Laptop, Monitor, Speaker)

· Filter by Customer Segment = "Corporate" → Shows only corporate purchases (Phone, Monitor,
Printer, Hard Drive)

10. Tools Used

Tool Purpose

Microsoft Excel Data storage, pivot tables, charts, slicers

Power BI (optional) Advanced interactive dashboard

Excel Slicers Interactive filtering

11. Conclusion

This project successfully constructed a sales dataset and completed all required tasks:

· ✅ Identified top-selling products (Mouse, Keyboard, Charger)

· ✅ Compared profit across regions (South highest, East lowest)

· ✅ Created interactive filters (product, region, customer segment)

The interactive dashboard enables users to dynamically explore sales performance, making it a valuable
tool for business decision-making. The findings reveal that affordable accessories drive volume, the
South region is most profitable, and Corporate customers generate the highest revenue.
