Homework 3WindingAndAutoTrans

The document discusses the operation of 3-winding transformers and auto-transformers, specifically addressing the impact of secondary load changes on tertiary voltage. It also inquires about the ratio range of auto-transformers and the disadvantages of having a large ratio. Additionally, it presents a problem involving a 20-kVA single-phase transformer and requires calculations related to its reconfiguration into auto-transformers.

3-Winding Transformer and

Auto-Transformer
1. The primary winding of 3-winding transformer is
connected to the rated-voltage supply, and the secondary
and the tertiary windings are connected to the loads,
respectively. Does the change of the secondary load affect
the tertiary voltage?

2. What is the range of the ratio, kA, of auto-transformer?

What are the disadvantages of too large kA?

3. A 20-kVA single-phase 2-winding transformer has the primary
winding of N1 turns with the rated voltage of 2400V, and the
secondary winding that is composed of 2 coils, N2 turns with the
rated voltage of 1200V each. The windings of the transformer
are re-connected to make the two auto-transformers as shown in
the following figure. None of the rated voltages and currents of
the coils/windings can be exceeded. Find the rated voltages and
currents of the high-voltage and low-voltage sides, the rated
capacities and the rated current of the common windings for the
two auto-transformers.
