Simple Interest

Formula: I =P ×r ×t

1.1 Sarah:
 I =4500× 0.06 ×3=R 810

 Total = 4500+ 810=R 5310

1.2 Loan:
 I =2800 ×0.08 × 2.5=R 560

 Total = 2800+560=R 3360

1.3 Thabo:

 I =1200 ×0.10 × 4=R 480 ✅ Correct.

📈 Compound Interest

Formula: A=P¿ , Interest = A−P

2.1 P=3000 ,r =0.05 , t=2

 A=3000 ¿

 Interest = 3307.50−3000=R 307.50

2.2 P=6000 ,r =0.07 , t=3

 A=6000 ¿

 Interest = 7350.26−6000=R 1350.26

2.3 P=2500 ,r =0.09 , t=4

 A=2500 ¿

 Interest = 3528.95−2500=R 1028.95

🔗 LCM and HCF

Use prime factorisation:

1.1 96 = 25 ×3, 144 = 24 ×3 2

 HCF = 24 ×3=48

 LCM = 25 ×32=288

1.2 180 = 22 ×32 ×5, 240 = 24 ×3 × 5

 HCF = 22 ×3 ×5=60

 LCM = 24 ×3 2 ×5=720

1.3 54 = 2 ×33, 90 = 2 ×32 ×5, 162 = 2 ×3 4

 HCF = 2 ×32=18

 LCM = 2 ×3 4 × 5=810

1.4 84 = 22 ×3 ×7 , 210 = 2 ×3 ×5 ×7

 HCF = 2 ×3 ×7=42

 LCM = 22 ×3 ×5 ×7=420

1.5 120 = 23 ×3 ×5 , 180 = 22 ×32 ×5, 300 = 22 ×3 ×52

 HCF = 22 ×3 ×5=60

 LCM = 23 ×32 ×52=1800

🚗 Distance, Speed, Time

Distance
Formula: Speed=
Time
1. Vehicle:

 Time = 2.5 h, Distance = 210 km

 Speed = 210 /2.5=84 km/h

2. Learner:

 Time = 48 min = 0.8 h

 Distance = 15 ×0.8=12 km

3. Train:

 First part: 90 ×3=270 km

 Remaining = 540 - 270 = 270 km

 Time = 270 /120=2.25 h

 Total = 3 + 2.25 = 5.25 h (5 h 15 min)

4. Bus:

 Monday distance = 80 ×2.75=220 km

 Tuesday time = 2.75 + 0.25 = 3 h

 Speed = 220 /3=73.3 km/h

5. Car:

 First part: 120 km in 1.5 h

 Second part: 180 km in 2 h

 Total distance = 300 km, total time = 3.5 h

 Speed = 300/3.5=85.7 km/h

🛒 Hire Purchase

1. Thabo:

 VAT = 8000 × 0.15=R 1200

 Total = 8000+1200=R 9200

 Balance = 9200−2000=R 7200

 Monthly = 7200/12=R 600

2. Lerato:

 VAT = 12000 ×0.15=R 1800

 Total = 12000+1800=R 13800

 Balance = 13800−3000=R 10800

 Monthly = 10800/18=R 600

3. Sipho:

 Profit = 6800−5500=R 1300

 % Profit = (1300/5500)×100=23.64 %
