1.
Title
● No more than 12 words.
● Must answer: What was done? How? Where or on what was it tested?
2. Abstract
● Maximum of 400 words.
● Include: context, problem, proposed approach, validation method, and key results.
3. Motivation
● First paragraph: General context of the target application, potential uses, and
impact.
● Second paragraph: Context and relevance of using AI or machine learning in the
target application.
● Third paragraph: State, in general terms, the types of AI or machine learning
algorithms that could be helpful in solving the target application.
4. Problem Statement
● First paragraph: General context of the problem, and list the three main causes of
this problem as bullet points or inline items.
● Second paragraph: Describe the first cause of the general problem, including
potential limitations of AI or ML tools, possible indirect causes, and consequences for
the application.
● Third paragraph: Describe the second cause of the general problem in the same
structure.
● Fourth paragraph: Describe the third cause of the general problem, also with its
limitations and implications.
● Fifth paragraph: State the research question that captures the general context of
the application, the main problem, and its causes from the AI/ML perspective. This
must be aligned with the title and the general objective.
5. State of the Art
● Create one subsection per cause listed in the problem statement.
● In each subsection, write two paragraphs that outline recent trends (within the last 4
years) in AI or machine learning aimed at solving that specific cause.
● Describe the state-of-the-art methods from the simplest to the most advanced,
grouping them by underlying philosophy. For each, explain: what they do, what they
achieve, and their limitations.
● Include a spider chart or table summarizing the main state-of-the-art methods for
each cause.
● Add a final paragraph that summarizes the most appropriate AI or ML alternatives to
address the studied problem and highlights their most relevant limitations
(issues/drawbacks).
6. Objectives
● General Objective: Write in infinitive form, stating the overall purpose of the work, its
novelty, the problem causes it aims to address, and the metrics or tasks (from AI/ML)
through which it will be validated.
● Specific Objective 1: In infinitive, addressing the first cause of the problem,
specifying what will be developed and how it will be evaluated within the relevant
AI/ML task.
● Specific Objective 2: Same format, addressing the second cause of the problem.
● Specific Objective 3: Same format, addressing the third cause of the problem.
7. Materials and Methods
● Databases: Describe the databases to be used — name, access type
(public/private), acquisition protocol, format, number of samples, hardware used, and
main descriptions based on the state of the art.
● Mathematical Background: Summarize the main AI and machine learning concepts
relevant to the proposal. Highlight the core equations that support the novelty of the
proposal, progressing from general to specific.
● Methodology:
○ Present the proposal as a pipeline diagram.
○ Define the logical sequence of steps used to solve the problem, clearly stating
the main innovations and measurement criteria to demonstrate the
advantages/disadvantages of the approach.
8. Experimental Framework
● Describe the validation protocol, data storage, and parameter tuning methods.
● Preferably use diagrams or flowcharts to illustrate the framework.
9. Results and Discussion
● Present results with both visual and numerical support.
● Compare with the state of the art.
● Avoid redundant content (e.g., avoid showing the same result as both table and
chart).
● Clearly state what was validated, why, and how.
10. Conclusions and Future Work
● First paragraph: State the novel AI or ML proposal, its core concept, and its
advantages over the state of the art.
● Second paragraph: Main conclusion regarding Specific Objective 1.
● Third paragraph: Main conclusion regarding Specific Objective 2.
● Fourth paragraph: Main conclusion regarding Specific Objective 3.
● Fifth paragraph: Propose at least one future research line for each specific
objective.
11. References
● Include Q1 or Q2 verified journal articles or patents.
● Use APA or IEEE format, consistently applied.
