QUESTION ONE
(a) THE CALL OF MOSES
- Moses took the flock of his father in – law to graze at Mount Horeb
- He saw a flaming fire in the bush
- As he drew nearer God called him, ‘Moses’
- God told him to remove his sandals from his feet because the place was a holy ground
- God told Moses He was sending him to go and deliver his people (Israelites) in Egypt
- God empowered Moses to do miracles so that the elders of Israel will believe that the message
is truly from God
- God made Aaron join Moses to perform the assignment
- Moses and Aaron assembled the leaders of Israel and gave them God’s word
- They performed signs and wonders as they were directed by God
- The people believed Moses and God

(b) MORAL LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF MOSES
- He was a true patriot who identified himself with his people and defended their rights
- He was hardworking and a very committed leader

- He risked his life to save his people from oppression and servitude

(c) THE CALL OF PROPHET MOHAMMED BY ALLAH

- Mohammed formed a habit of visiting a cave on Mount Hira, where he spent his time in
prayers and meditation.
- This practice continued for ten long years until he was forty years of age
- One day, when he was busy praying, he received his first revelation from Allah
- The Angel Gabriel (jibril) appeared and told him to read in the name of Allah who created man
- This was the start of his prophethood.
- He was afraid in view of the great work from Allah, so Khadijah took him to her uncle,
who studied Holy books
- After hearing the story, the old man said that Allah had sent angels to visit the prophet.
- The angel continued to reveal himself to Mohammed for 23 years where he put all his
revelations in a Holy Book as the Quran.

(a) THE STORY OF EGYA AHOR
- Egya Ahor was a chief priest of the Fante kingdom when the Fantes lived in Takyiman.
- Egya Ahor was a priest for the god, Akyen, whom the fantes believed protected them.
- Periodically, he would perform rituals for the god on behalf of the people

 - With the help of the god, Egya Ahor used the adowno to predict the beginning and ending of
the rainy and dry seasons. The people were therefore informed of the time to prepare the land
for agricultural activities.
- Eyga Ahor’s decided to sacrifice himself to save his people from an epidemic that killed both
the young and old. This occurred when the Fantes migrated to their present homes.
- The fantes therefore celebrate the Ahobaa festival to recognize Egya Ahor as a god and honour
him.
- His eldest son, called Edufor, succeeded him. [6 marks]

(c) IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE LIFE OF OKOMFO ANOKYE

- Okomfo Anokye came from Awukugua in the Eastern Region of Ghana
- Before his birth, his parents had difficulty having a child and consulted a traditional priest
for assistance.
- He was born with cowries tied around his wrist.
- During his infancy he could disappear for weeks before re-appearing.
- As a boy, Okomfo Anokye could perform wonders.
- One day, he threw a gong into the sky and commanded it to stay there for a while.
- He also climbed a very big thorny tree while wearing a pair of native sandals.
- He used a needle to harvest palm fruit
- He used a woven basket to fetch water and the water stayed in the basket for a while
- He was the traditional priest of the Ashanti kingdom
- Okomfo Anokye commanded a golden stool out of the skies and used it to unite the
Ashanti Kingdom.
- He helped to establish Kumasi as Asante capital by planting two trees which one died and
the one survived.
- He turned stones into cowry shells which were used as a medium of exchange at Awukugua
- He planted a tree at Awukugua which bore fruits in seven days.
- His magical activities contributed to the victories the Asantes won over the Denkyiras.
- He helped Osei Tutu I to bring together all the Asante chiefs.

(b) DISADVANTAGES OF THE EXTENDED FAMILY SYSTEM

1. Misunderstandings and fighting, especially on family properties and inheritance, are rampant.
2. It encourages laziness because some members of the family may sit idle without working
because others are around to assist. So, there is high dependency on the hard-working
relatives.
3. There is little or no privacy for family members since individuals have to consult the elders
of the family even on private issues. This prevents the individuals from deciding for
themselves.
4. The bad behaviour of a family member could tarnish the image of his kinsmen
5. Children are faced with the problem of choosing who to obey and whose instructions to take.
6. The children face the difficulty of living with other adults in the extended family.

statues.

(d) BENEFITS OF HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP AMONG FAMILY MEMBERS.

- Ensuring healthy human relationship helps to fulfil God's directives and expectations: God
expects us to live in peace and harmony with members of our family. In relating peacefully
with our people, we satisfy God's strong desire for humanity to relate well with one another.
- It helps to foster good interaction: When there is a healthy human relationship among family
members, they are able to interact well with one another. One can make a request for the
assistance of another person in times of need.
- It promotes peace and unity: When family members are in a healthy relationship with one
another, peace and unity inevitably prevail. This leads to progress and stability in the family.
- It ensures and promotes happiness: This is because conflicts are reduced or avoided among
the members and this generates happiness in the family.
- It ensures and promotes belongingness among the members: The members feel comfortable
belonging to a social group.
- Healthy family relationship promotes security and protection: Every member becomes the
other's keeper and they all help to protect the image of the family,

QUESTION FIVE
a) OCCASIONS DURING WHICH CHRISTIANS SING SONGS
- During personal devotion: When believers are having personal devotion, they sing religious
songs for inspiration. They may also sing it to invoke the spirits of their objects of worship.
- During times of sadness and joy: Some religious songs are sung when religious people or
person is sad. On such occasion the songs help to encourage and comfort such people or
person. Some are sung during happy moments to praise and thank God.
- During congregation worship: Some religious songs are sung during congregational
worship. This practice is common to both Christian and Traditional religions. Some of these
songs are accompanied by instruments and dancing.
- During religious festivals and special occasions: Religious festivities and special occasions
like Christmas, Easter, Eid – ul – Fitr, Aboakyire, Homowo etc are occasions for singing
religious songs. In traditional religion, the enstoolment of a chief also calls for the singing of
religious songs.
- During rite of passage: Christians sing songs when celebrating any of the rites of passage
like death rite, naming rite, marriage rite etc.

- The various lyrics in religious songs strengthen the faith of Christians

- The songs teach moral values that they need to learn and practice.
