Abstract
This study explores the development of eco-friendly construction bricks using
cassava starch as a primary binder. With the increasing demand for sustainable
building materials, the use of agricultural by-products offers a promising solution
to reduce environmental impact. Cassava, a readily available and renewable
resource, is transformed into a biopolymer that enhances the mechanical
properties and durability of bricks. The research investigates various proportions
of cassava starch mixed with local soil and natural additives, assessing factors
such as compressive strength, water absorption, and thermal conductivity. The
results indicate that cassava-based bricks exhibit comparable strength to
conventional fired bricks while significantly lowering carbon emissions
associated with traditional brick production. This innovative approach not only
contributes to waste reduction but also promotes the utilization of sustainable
materials in the construction industry, paving the way for greener building
practices.
