EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An internship report entitled "AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON NIC ASIA BANK
LIMITED " has been prepared to fulfill the partial requirement of the project report of
BBA 7th Semester. The study shows the importance of the internship program. It will
help the students to be fully aware of the real-world practices before entering the market
as a fresher.

An internship is the first step of a learning experience in a working environment after

acquiring theoretical knowledge in college. An internship is done to gain practical
knowledge for students. This internship has been completed at NIC Asia Bank, Parsa
Branch.

During the forty-eight-day internship, I performed various tasks such as account

opening and closing, handling customer queries, issuing debit/credit cards and cheque
books, assisting with documentation, and maintaining records. I also learned to use
banking software like FINACLE, DIGITAL CSD and gained hands-on experience with
forms such as KYC, Meroshare, and ASBA.

The internship helped me apply classroom knowledge to real banking scenarios and
develop important skills in communication, professionalism, teamwork, and
documentation. Challenges such as managing customer expectations and handling
technical system errors enhanced my problem-solving and adaptability. This is
necessary for a student of BBA in order to learn the practical perspective of real job as
they have to compete in the competitive market and should prove themselves.

viii
CHAPTER: I
Introduction
1.1 Background of the Internship
The internship program is specially designed for graduating students to transform their
theoretical knowledge into practical experience. Internship helps students develop
confidence to cope with real-life managerial situations. It is a form of on-the-job
training where students become familiar with corporate culture and gain practical
exposure to organizational operations. Hence, internship serves as an important
medium through which students can achieve their career objectives and enhance their
professional skills.

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a four-year academic program under

Pokhara University consisting of eight semesters. The program aims to provide students
with both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of business and management.
As a partial fulfillment of the BBA program, students are required to complete an
internship and submit a report based on their experience in an organization. This
practical exposure helps students understand real business environments and apply
classroom knowledge in practical situations.

Pokhara University School of Business has been providing quality education to produce
skilled human resources capable of contributing to the economic and social
development of the nation. To expose students to real organizational settings, the
university requires students to participate in internship programs in reputed
organizations. Internship enables students to understand the internal and external
environment of organizations and enhances their ability to handle business challenges
effectively.

In line with the objectives of the BBA program, the internship was carried out at Prabhu
Bank Limited. Prabhu Bank Limited is one of the leading commercial banks in Nepal,
licensed as an “A” class financial institution by Nepal Rastra Bank. The bank was
established after the merger of several finance.;al institutions including Kist Bank Ltd.,
Prabhu Bikas Bank Ltd., Gaurishankar Development Bank Ltd., and Zenith Finance
Ltd. in 2014. The bank has its head office located in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, and
provides a wide range of banking and financial services to individuals, businesses, and
institutions across the country.

1
Over the years, Prabhu Bank has expanded its network significantly, operating hundreds
of branches, ATMs, and extension counters throughout Nepal. The bank offers various
services such as deposit accounts, loans and advances, remittance services, credit cards,
and digital banking facilities. With a large customer base and a dedicated workforce,
the bank plays an important role in promoting financial inclusion and supporting the
economic development of the country.

During the internship period, practical exposure was gained in the customer service
department of the bank. Working in this department provided an opportunity to observe
and understand various banking activities such as account opening procedures,
customer handling, transaction processing, and other daily banking operations. The
internship experience served as an important platform for enhancing professional
knowledge, improving communication skills, and understanding the practical
functioning of the banking sector.

1.2 Objectives of the internship

Internship program, as prescribed in curriculum has been allocated for three credit
hours. This program is designed for achieving practical and professional knowledge by
comparing theoretical knowledge in real field, to explore to adopt in real field. The
general objective of an internship is to understand and experience banking policies and
procedures with the help of participation, inquiry, interaction, observation, and
firsthand experience, to understand the dynamic and mutual relationship of individual
saver, business enterprise and the bank.

The main objective of this study is to understand the procedures, tools, and techniques
used by bank personnel in handling customers and maintaining effective service
delivery. The specific objectives are:

• To examine the practical insights about the banking activities.

• To analyze the various activities done under CSD.
• To enhance practical knowledge through interaction, observation and working
experience.

11
3.3 Challenges Faced During My Internship Period
During my internship period at Prabhu Bank, I experienced several challenges while
adapting to the professional banking environment. Since it was my first exposure to a
real banking workplace, understanding the procedures and handling responsibilities
required patience, focus, and continuous learning.

One of the major challenges I faced was dealing with many customers during peak
hours. Many customers visited the branch for different services such as account
opening, remittance, balance inquiries, and cheque book requests. Managing customer
queries while ensuring proper documentation sometimes became difficult, especially
when the branch was crowded.

Another challenge was learning the banking procedures and documentation

requirements within a short period of time. Banking operations require strict
compliance with rules such as KYC verification, form completion, and proper record
maintenance. At the beginning, understanding these procedures and ensuring accuracy
while assisting customers required careful attention.

I also faced some difficulty in communicating with customers who were not fully aware
of banking policies and requirements. Some customers would visit the bank without
necessary documents like citizenship or authorization letters, which occasionally led to
misunderstandings or delays in service.

12
CHAPTER: IV
Learning Outcomes
The 48-day internship period at Prabhu Bank Limited provided me with valuable
practical exposure to the banking sector. During this time, I gained different skills and
a clearer understanding of how banking activities are carried out in a real working
environment.

• Learned to deal with different types of customer queries by communicating with

customers and bank staff, which helped improve my interpersonal and communication
skills.

• Understood the corporate culture of the organization, including punctuality,

teamwork, discipline, and professional work ethics followed in a banking institution.

• Learned the importance of proper time management while working in a busy banking
environment and adapted myself to a new professional setting.

• Developed basic technical skills by operating office equipment such as printers,

scanners, and photocopy machines used in daily banking work.

• Learned the procedures related to preparing and issuing cheque books and assisting
customers with debit card related services.

• Became familiar with different types of bank stamps and understood their use in
documentation and verification processes.

• Got chance to use the FINACLE software and learn about the system of Prabhu Bank.

Throughout the internship period, I was able to apply theoretical knowledge gained
during my academic studies into practical situations. The internship helped me
understand the real working environment of a commercial bank and improved my
confidence and practical skills for future career opportunities in the banking sector.

13
CHAPTER: V
Analysis and Recommendation
5.1 Critical Analysis of the Organization's Operations
This report has been prepared as a partial requirement for the completion of the BBA
program under Pokhara University. The internship program provided me with an
opportunity to gain practical experience in the banking sector and understand how
theoretical knowledge learned during academic study is applied in real organizational
settings. During the 48-day internship period at Prabhu Bank Limited, I had the chance
to observe and participate in different banking activities, which helped me expand my
understanding of professional banking operations. Some of the key things I learned
during my internship are listed below:

1. Learned to respond to customer inquiries and assist them in solving service-

related problems in an effective manner.

2. Gained practical experience in preparing and distributing cheque books and

supporting customers in debit card related services.

3. Became familiar with the use of important office equipment such as printers,
scanners, and other devices used in routine banking work.

4. Observed the basic operational procedures of the bank and gained

understanding about the professional work culture followed within the
organization.

5. Developed confidence while interacting with customers and learned how to

communicate in a polite and professional manner.

6. Improved my communication skills while providing information and assistance

to customers in a timely way.

7. Learned to identify and use different types of bank stamps required for
document verification and record keeping.

8. Understood the basic functions of the Finacle core banking software used in
Prabhu Bank, which helped me understand how customer accounts,
transactions, and banking records are managed digitally.

14
Overall, the internship period helped me bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge
and practical experience. It provided useful insight into how banking services are
delivered in a commercial bank and helped strengthen my skills and confidence for
future career opportunities in the banking sector.

5.2 Problems Identified

During my 48-day internship at Prabhu Bank Limited, I had the opportunity to observe
some operational problems faced by the branch during daily activities. Some of the
problems identified during my internship are as follows:

1. The CSD is often congested, especially during peak hours, making it difficult
for employees to serve customers efficiently.
2. Modern banking software and digital tools are not fully utilized, which slows
down transaction processing and record-keeping.
3. Air conditioning and ventilation are not properly functioning, leading to an
uncomfortable working environment for both staff and customers.
4. Many customers are in a hurry and prefer to avoid proper documentation, often
expecting services to be completed quickly without following standard
procedures.
5. Some customers argue with staff when they are asked to provide valid
documents or follow procedures which create additional stress for the
employees.
6. No internet in the bank.

5.3 Possible Solutions

After observing the problems in the Customer Service Department, I tried to address
some at my level. For the remaining issues, the following solutions are recommended:
1. To ease congestion and improve service, the bank could introduce additional
staff during busy hours or create a rotation system so that no single employee is
overburdened.
2. Updating and fully utilizing modern banking software and digital tools would
speed up transactions and reduce manual errors, improving overall efficiency.
3. Proper maintenance of air conditioning and ventilation systems should be
ensured to create a comfortable environment for both employees and customers.

15
4. Customers should be informed through visible notices or verbal guidance that
all standard procedures and documentation are necessary for secure and smooth
banking operations.
5. Staff could be trained in conflict management techniques to handle impatient or
argumentative customers professionally, minimizing stress and maintaining
service quality.
5.4 Recommendations
Prabhu Bank has been performing well in providing customer services, but to further
enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency in the Customer Service
Department (CSD), the following recommendations are suggested:
1. Introduce customer flow management strategies, such as token systems or
appointment scheduling, to reduce congestion during peak hours.
2. Regularly review and modernize CSD processes to ensure faster, smoother, and
more standardized service delivery.
3. Implement periodic customer feedback surveys to identify recurring issues and
improve service quality.
4. Encourage a culture of patience and professionalism among staff through
workshops and performance recognition programs.
5. Invest in infrastructure improvements, such as ergonomically designed counters
and better waiting areas, to make the CSD environment more comfortable for
both employees and customers.

16
CHAPTER: VI
Conclusion
My forty-eight-day internship at Prabhu Bank Limited has been an invaluable learning
experience, providing me with a clear understanding of the operations and challenges
of a modern commercial bank. Working in the Customer Service Department (CSD)
allowed me to witness firsthand how banking services are delivered, the importance of
accuracy and professionalism, and the real-world dynamics of customer interactions.

During the internship, I observed both the strengths and areas for improvement within
the CSD, such as the dedication of staff under pressure, as well as issues like congestion,
outdated systems, and challenges in handling impatient customers. Identifying these
problems and proposing practical solutions helped me develop analytical, problem-
solving, and interpersonal skills.

This internship has not only enhanced my knowledge of banking operations but also
strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues,
manage tasks under pressure, and approach challenges with a constructive mindset. It
has given me valuable insights into the importance of teamwork, time management,
and adaptability in a professional setting.

This internship has also given me a deeper perspective on professional responsibility

and customer service ethics. I have learned that efficiency and patience are equally
important, and that small improvements in processes or communication can
significantly enhance customer satisfaction. Experiencing the challenges and successes
of the CSD has motivated me to continue developing my skills and knowledge, ensuring
that I am better prepared for future roles in the banking and financial sector. This
experience has truly shaped my understanding of real-world banking operations and
professional conduct, leaving a lasting impression on my personal and career growth.

Overall, the experience at Prabhu Bank has been both educational and inspiring,
confirming my interest in the banking sector and equipping me with practical skills that
will support my future academic and professional endeavors. I am grateful for the
guidance of the bank staff and the opportunity to contribute, even in a small way, to the
bank’s operations during my internship.
