In English writing, every sentence should express a complete idea.
Sometimes, we make small grammar mistakes that make our sentences
unclear. The two most common mistakes are run-on sentences and
sentence fragments. These problems can make writing confusing and

examples, importance, and how to fix them.
History of Sentence Structure:
The rules of sentence structure developed over time. In old English

literature, writers like Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare used
long and creative sentences that helped shape modern grammar.
Later, English teachers and linguists created clear grammar rules so people
could write in a simple and correct way. Learning sentence structure
became an important part of Functional English, helping students avoid
common mistakes such as run-ons and fragments.
Understanding Sentence Structure:

Ways to Correct Run-On Sentences:
Use a period (.) to separate ideas.
Use a comma and a conjunction (and, but, because, so).
Use a semicolon (;) for closely related ideas.
What Are Sentence Fragments?
A sentence fragment is an incomplete sentence. It may be missing a
subject, a verb, or a full idea. It leaves the reader waiting for more
information.

How to Identify Sentence Fragments:
1. The sentence doesn’t have a subject or verb.
2. It doesn’t express a complete thought.
3. It depends on another sentence to make sense.
Ways to Fix Sentence Fragments:

Join it with another complete sentence.
Make sure every sentence has a full idea.
