Formulation of Elixir (1000 mL)

Ingredients Quantity Role


Alcohol (95%) 200 mL Solvent, preservative
Purified Water q.s. to 1000 mL Vehicle
Syrup (Sucrose) 300 mL Sweetening agent
Lemon oil 0.02 mL Flavoring agent
Talc 2–3 g Clarifying agent
Active drug As required Therapeutic agent

Procedure:

1. Dissolve the active drug and flavor in alcohol.

2. Add syrup and purified water gradually with stirring.

3. Add talc and mix well for clarification.

4. Filter the solution to obtain a clear liquid.

5. Make up the volume to 1000 mL with purified water.
