Analysis of the Research Abstract

Title:

Financial Literacy Among the Senior High School Students: Basis for Financial Stewardship
Plan

Purpose:

The purpose of the study was to determine the level of financial literacy among senior

high school students as well as to assess the ability of the students to make informed financial

decisions. Moreover, the study also aimed to identify the financial challenges faced by the

students as well as to propose a financial stewardship plan that can enhance the financial

knowledge and money management skills in preparation for future financial stability.

Methodology:

The researchers utilized a descriptive quantitative research design to assess the financial

literacy of the students. The participants of the research were 90 senior high school students

chosen randomly. The data was gathered using a self-administered questionnaire that utilized

a Likert Scale Checklist, which was adapted from the National Center for Education Statistics

(NCES). Descriptive statistics were utilized to analyze the results of the study, and Google

Sheets was utilized to analyze the results to determine the level of financial literacy of the

students as well as their experiences. The ethical considerations of the study, such as participant

consent and confidentiality, were also observed.

Key Findings:

The study has determined that senior high school students generally have a moderate to

high level of financial literacy; however, a significant number of them continue to encounter

challenges managing their money. Parents were identified as the main source of financial

knowledge, followed by teachers and the internet. The students were familiar with basic
financial terms like “budget,” “bank loan,” and “debit card,” but were less aware of complex

financial terms. In addition to that, many students reported challenges such as high expenses,

low allowances, and difficulties in budgeting and saving money.

Relevance:

This study also emphasizes the need for improving the financial education of young

students. The findings of the study have highlighted that students have the basic knowledge of

finance, but they need guidance on how to apply the knowledge of finance in practical

scenarios. The proposed financial plan for financial stewardship can provide an opportunity for

the school system to teach students financial literacy, encourage family discussions about

money and provide practical strategies that will help students develop responsible financial and

prepare them for future financial independence.
