World Public Transport Day is about considering how transport networks need to evolve in an ever-
changing world.
Shifting travel behaviours, an explosion of data and new technologies and a drive to be ever more
sustainable are just some of the trends transport leaders are increasingly responding to.

We recently supported the Transport Department, HKSAR Government take a significant step forward in
delivering a smarter, greener and more connected mobility future for Hong Kong through the launch of
its Transport Strategy Blueprint.

We applied a rigorous scientific approach to help shape the recommendations that underpin the
blueprint, working to enhance public transport services, facilitate cross-boundary commuting, advance
smart transformation and promote low carbon transport options

This World Public Transport Day, we’re celebrating the role public transport plays in our cities and
regions.

Public transport should enhance how people engage and interact with the places they live, work and
travel to, enabling strong economies and improving the wider public realm.

But what does good public transport actually look like?

How are we helping accelerate the Dutch Government’s ambitions to achieve 70GW of offshore wind
power by 2050?

We were appointment by Netherlands Enterprise Agency to develop an integrated ground model and
produce a geotechnical interpretative report for the Nederwiek Wind Farm Zone Site 1.

Leveraging our extensive experience across the energy sector, we combined our geotechnical expertise
with a digital focus to assess the opportunities of the future development and provide a deeper
understanding of the risks involved in the project - all while accelerating project construction and time
to first power.

Do existing buildings limit ESG reporting? Not necessarily.

“When you retrofit an existing building, there’s no reason why you can’t apply smart technology,” says
Retrofit Leader, Mike Edwards.

Retrofit creates opportunities to integrate smart technologies that capture the high-quality data needed
for ESG reporting. This means that by retrofitting an asset, key environmental benchmarks such as
NABERS and EPC ratings can still be achieved.

Using a digital twin to understand plastic pollution in Pasig River, one of the world’s biggest emitters of
ocean plastic waste.

Manila’s booming population has impacted the Pasig River, polluting a once healthy ecosystem and food
source. Under the Pasig River Urban Development initiative, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) called
for an innovative solution to reduce plastic pollution, using a digital model to identify pollution hotspots.

We created a digital twin of the river with RiverRecycle that models flow, pinpoints plastic hotspots and
links pollution to human activity, weather and seasonal variations. This data helps policymakers plan
targeted actions to restore the river’s health.

Explore how we developed the digital twin model: [Link]

With the right investment and delivery strategy, the UK could unlock over 90,000 jobs and up to £194bn
in GVA to 2040 by upgrading the electricity grid.

These benefits extend well beyond the power system itself. Services - including technology, finance,
education and professional industries - are projected to gain £95bn in additional GVA, reflecting the
wider system value of a grid that can support electrification at scale.

But realising this potential will depend on decisions made within the energy sector today: accelerating
strategic investment, strengthening supply chain capability, and adopting delivery models that reduce
risk and keep critical infrastructure on schedule.

For policymakers, investors, system planners, network operators and delivery partners, Gridunlocked
sets out the evidence behind where targeted action can have the greatest impact.

Learn more about how the UK can invest wisely to unlock the full socioeconomic value of a modern
electricity grid.

How can we develop adaptable, collaborative plans for long-term flood resilience across UK rivers?

Our work with the Environment Agency on the Severn 2100 Adaptation Pathways Pilot explores exactly
that.

We developed an adaptation pathways approach to flood risk management for the River Severn,
creating a flexible, catchment-wide roadmap that can evolve as climate change, growth and investment
needs change over time.

Working closely with the River Severn Partnership, a regional partnership of stakeholders, we developed
and tested adaptation pathways for the Upper Severn and Warwickshire Avon. We also created a multi-
capitals benefits toolkit to help decision-makers consider financial, social and environmental value.

The result is a more coordinated way to identify and prioritise actions that strengthen flood resilience
while supporting growth for people, places and ecosystems across the region.

Can only new builds achieve ESG goals?

“Actually, retrofitting buildings can meet or exceed ESG goals in a number of ways, by avoiding
embodied carbon demolition and construction, improving energy efficiency and applying circularity
principles” says Retrofit Leader, Jess Kennedy.

Retrofit can avoid embodied carbon from demolition and rebuild whilst improving operational
performance. It can also deliver social value, from preserving community heritage to improving occupier
wellbeing, demonstrating commitment to ESG in the long-term.

retrofit can lead to a strong return on investment: [Link]
