Lesson
Converting Fractions,
1 Decimals, and Percentage
Conversion is the process of changing one form to another. In Science, conversion refers
to the process of changing the form of matters, such as solid to liquid, and liquid to gas; or
expressing one unit in another form, such as meter in centimeter, and Newton in Joule.
In Mathematics, conversion of numerical figures refers to the process of expressing one
numerical form in another form, such as expressing fraction to decimal, converting
decimal to percentage, and the like.
We are also dealing with Mathematical processes in Business Math, thus we will learn
how to convert or express fractions, decimals, and percentage in different forms.
First, let’s have a drill.
1
What’s In
DIRECTIONS: On a separate sheet of paper, write your answers to the questions
below. Please do not write anything on the module.
1. How many parts have the same color?
2. Identify the colors that occupies the first three
largest part.
3. Are there others way to write its percentages?
4. Can you write the values in fraction form?
5. If you can write the values in fraction form, can
they be reduced to lowest terms or be in
simplified forms?

What’s New
During weekends, your family loves to have
Pizza Party. Your mother will make two homemade
pizzas and you are tasked to equally divide one of the
pizzas to you and your siblings. If you have four
siblings, the pizza must be divided in to five servings;
1
giving each of you serving of it.
5
What percentage of the pizza equals your
serving? Express the percentage in decimal form.
2
You’re doing great in our exercises!
On the next pages, it is very important that you
carefully understand the step by step process in converting
fractions, decimals, and percentage to another form.
Keep your focus!
What is It
As mentioned earlier on this module, conversion is the process of changing one form to
another. We will be dealing with three different forms: fraction, decimal, and
percentage. For each form, there will be different ways of conversion.
FRACTION refers to a part of a whole. That is, when you cut a paper into four
parts, each of its part is called a fraction. There are three types of fractions: Proper,
Improper, and Mixed. Let’s review each type.
• PROPER FRACTIONS. These are fractions whose numerator is always less
than its denominator.
3
1 3 7 27 91
59 120
2 4 15
• IMPROPER FRACTIONS. These are fractions whose numerator is always
greater than its denominator.
6 12 65 89 100
7 16 24 9
5
• MIXED FRACTIONS. These are combinations of a whole number and a
Proper Fraction.
1 2 12 7 11
3 7 18 25 9 5
4 5 25 140
DECIMAL refers to a special form or system of numbers whose base are in the
power of ten.
0.25 3.14 0.0125 89.78 2.005
PERCENTAGE refers to a special form of numbers in each hundred, thus it a
number’s ratio to 100.
25% 0.02% 100% 94.95% 1.75%
CONVERTING FRACTION TO DECIMAL
TO CONVERT OR EXPRESS PROPER OR IMPROPER FRACTION IN
DECIMAL FORM, you simply divide the numerator by the denominator.
