CANVA TUTORIAL

What is Canva?

Canva is a user-friendly graphic design platform that allows you to create

Carleton-branded visual content such as social media graphics, posters, and
flyers. It's also available for use in your browser. After you've finished your
piece, it can be downloaded as an image file or PDF and shared right away,
or it can be printed.

Why Canva?

 Canva's extensive feature set makes your photos stand out.

Canva's beginner-friendly features make photo editing simple,
from basic cropping and straightening to adding textures and
colour correction. You can add a textured background to your
photo to give it more dimension, insert text to make your own
meme, make a photo grid, blur your photo, and do other
things.

 Canva has thousands of free, professionally designed

templates that can be customised with just a few clicks thanks
to their drag and drop interface. Simply upload your photos to
Canva, drag and drop them into your preferred template, and
save the file to your computer.
Canva’s Top Features

1. Photo enhancement effects

Canva offers a variety of photo enhancement effects. You can apply effects to
photos provided by Canva as well as photos you upload.

When you select a photo, you'll see them at the top of the editor. These will
allow you to flip photos, crop them, apply filters, and adjust brightness,
contrast, saturation, tint, and blur, among other things.

2. Access to photos, videos, and templates

With the Canva Pro plan, you have access to 75+ million photos and videos, as
well as 420,000+ templates; only a fraction of these are available with the free
plan.
When you're in the editor, click the Templates tab to access the templates. Canva
will find templates for you based on the design type you selected.

You can browse or search the templates based on colour or language. To find
photos, go to the Photos tab and select photos similarly to how you would with
filters. You can also use the Upload tab to upload photos.
3. Access to icons, shapes, and stickers
Canva has an Elements tab where you can find icons, shapes, stickers, charts,
grids, gradients, and other graphics. You can insert them into your images and
change their colour, transparency, and size.
4. Font library

Canva has a font library under Text that contains dozens of fonts ranging from
simple to sophisticated, with individual fonts and font pairs.

Canva will find the individual font as well as fonts that pair with it if you search
for it. You can select a pair and then add your text. If you have a Pro account, you
can upload fonts as long as you have a licence to use them; you cannot upload
any font.

5. Drag-and-drop editor

The drag-and-drop editor makes working with photos, videos, templates,

elements, and fonts simple. Choose what you want to create, and Canva will show
you all of the appropriate items. You can change them by dragging and dropping
them. You should be able to make your visuals in a matter of minutes. If you've
used the templates before, you'll probably be able to make them in seconds.
6. Creates more than images

Canva is commonly thought of as a tool for creating images only. However, you
can design invitations, planners, business cards, blog banners, newsletters,
menus, certificates, workbooks, websites, flyers, and other materials. There are
numerous resources available for online education as well.

You can re-use the drag-and-drop editor. Canva will suggest templates based on
the type of creation you select. You have the option of using one of the available
templates or starting from scratch.

7. Animate images

Canva allows you to add animation effects. Simply select Animate. This displays
all of the effects available to you. Block, Breathe, Fade, Pan, and Rise are among
the free animations; paid animations are also available.
Experiment with these effects to help you create beautiful images, especially for
social media.

8. Publish to social media or schedule

Canva, like most online photo editors, allows you to share your images directly
to some of the most popular social networks. They recently added the ability to
schedule posts to social media platforms such as Facebook pages, Facebook
groups, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn profiles, LinkedIn pages, Slack, and Tumblr.
9. Content planner

The content planner is another new feature. You can view all of the images you've
scheduled in this section. If you notice any gaps in the calendar, click the '+' sign
to add an earlier design or create one right away.

10. Brand Kit

The Band Kit serves as a repository for your brand assets, such as fonts, brand
colours, and logos.
How to use Canva?

 Choose a visual type

Choose a visual type from the dashboard's options, or use the arrow, menu, or
search bar to find templates. Custom dimensions can be set for a one-of-a-kind
layout. In this example I will choose Instagram post.

 Select a template and modify it

Canva will open the editor in a new tab with templates to the left.
Drag and drop a template onto the editor to select it.

This reminder image was added by me. After you've decided on a template, you
can customise it by adding your quote and brand colours. That's what I did in
screenshot below.

This is how Canva templates are used to create images. It's extremely simple. You
can also create images from scratch by selecting photos and layering elements on
top of them.
As we explore more features, I'll show you how to do this below.

 Choose a photo

Begin by deciding on a visual style. Next, go to the Photos tab, or the Uploads
tab (to add your photos), or the More tab to import an image from another site
(don't forget to check the copyright permissions!).

We are going to create a quote image, I chose a photo that matches the quote I
plan to add.

 Add overlays

Then, go to the elements tab and add overlays. I drew a line and added a simple
white circle. The line will be used to separate the quote from the author's name.
Elements can be resized by dragging their corners. If you hold down Option/Alt
while dragging, the aspect ratio will be preserved. I chose grey for the circle
overlay because neutral colours like grey and black complement most images. I
chose a colour from the photo for the line. Canva has a palette finder that analyses
photos and displays all of their colours. Simply select the photo and then select
the colour option. It will display the colours in the image in the left menu.
 Add Text

You can now add text. You can browse or search for fonts on the Text tab.

There are both fancy and simple fonts available. Montserrat is a simple font that
I prefer. Some will advise you to use a fancy font. Fancy fonts look great and
serve a purpose, but when designing for the web, keep it simple. The same
principles that apply to copywriting apply here as well. Because the internet is
rife with distractions, you must provide people with something simple to read. If
the font is too fancy and difficult to read, your engagement and conversions will
suffer. You don't want people to be wondering, "Is that 6 or b?" or "Is that an or
e?". The principles you use to simplify text in blog writing and copywriting apply
here as well. Canva will find both the font and font pairs when you search for
one.
Click the pair you like most to add it to the editor.

Replace the text, then resize it, move it around, and add colours. If you want, you
can also include your company's logo. Simply upload a logo or enter your website
address.
 Adjust the alignment

Adjust the alignment of all the elements in your visual to make it appear
consistent. Begin by selecting all elements with Command/Control + A.

Next, select Position, then Center. Everything will be moved to the centre. Use a
different alignment if you prefer.

 Resize your creation

Your image is finished, but before I show you how to share it, I'd like to show
you a time-saving feature. Canva includes a resize feature that allows you to
resize any image.
Simply click Resize, enter the new size or platform, and select whether to resize
the current one or make a copy. Canva will automatically resize it and adjust the
design's elements for you.

 Download or Share

When your image is complete, you can download, share, or schedule it.

To download the image, click the Download button, then select the format and
click the Download button again. To share, click the "..." icon, then select the
platform or click Schedule. You can set the time and select the social networks
while scheduling.

Final thoughts

Canva is a fantastic online graphic design tool. It can be used for everything from
basic photo editing to creating social media images, flyers, and documents. It has
a plethora of features and is reasonably priced at $12.95 per month. There's also
a generous free plan, and customer service is excellent. It provides an excellent
design experience for entrepreneurs and marketers.

Setting Up the Document

Setting up your document correctly from the start will make your job much easier as you work through your
project. This will require some advanced planning. For example, if your final output will be a brochure, you
may need to set up your document to be horizontal and double-sided.

To create a new document, click File > New. This will open the Document Setup dialog box (Figure 2).

2
Figure 2. Document Setup dialog box
Here you will be able to name your file, set up the correct page size and orientation for your document.
Options include, but are not limited to:

Page Size and Orientation

Change the page size by typing in new values for width and height. Page size represents the final size you want
after bleeds or trimming other marks outside the page. In the Preset dropdown menu you can and such common
compatibilities as Photo, Web, etc. Typing in exact values for Height and Width gives you more control over
the size and orientation of your page.
Resolution
Resolution is the number of pixels on a printed area of an image. The higher the resolution, the more pixels
there are on the page, the better the quality of the image. However, high resolution increases the size of the
file. The standard recommended resolution for printed images is 150-300, for Web images it is 72.
Color Mode
Choose a color mode that will best it your project. For example, when making a graphic for a website,
choose RGB. When making an image for print choose CMYK.
Background Contents
Choose the background: white, color or transparent. When you have entered all of your document settings,
click Ok.

Opening an image from a disk

If the image you have is saved on a disk or to the computer, select File > Open, and then navigate to the disk
drive/file where your image is saved. Choose the image file and click Open. At this point, you may want to
save your image under a different name so that you can always have the original to fall back on in case of a
mistake.
To save your file, select File > Save As and type in the new name of the file in the dialogue box.

3
2. Interface Layout

Figure 3. This is the layout of Adobe Photoshop interface.

Menu Bar
If you look at the top of the screen you will see the Menu bar (Figure 3), which contains all the main
functions of Photoshop, such as File, Edit, Image, Layer, Type, Select, Filter, Analysis, 3D, View, Window,
and Help.

Toolbar
Most of the major tools are located in the Toolbar for easy access.

The Image
The image will appear in its own window once you open a file.

Image Name
The name of any image that you open will be at the top of the image window as shown above.

4
Palettes
Palettes contain functions that help you monitor and modify images. By default, palettes are stacked
together in groups. These are the palettes that are usually visible: Color, Adjustments and Layers. If none of
the palettes are visible, go to Window in the Menu bar and choose the palettes you need.

3. Palettes
Below is the description of the most commonly used palettes in Adobe Photoshop CC 2015. Palettes used for
more advanced image editing will be covered in the Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 Tutorial - Intermediate.

Color, Swatches, Style

The Color palette (Figure 4) displays the current foreground and background colors and RGB values for these
colors. You can use the sliders to change the foreground and background colors in different color modes.
You can also choose a color from the spectrum of colors displayed in the color ramp at the bottom of the
palette.

Figure 4. Color palette

In the Swatches palette (Figure 5) you can choose a foreground or background color and add a customized
color to the library.

Figure 5. Swatches palette

The Styles palette (Figure 6) allows you to view, select, and apply preset layer styles. By default, a preset style
replaces the current layer style. You can use the styles in the palette or add your own using the Create New
Style icon.

5
Figure 6. Styles palette

History
The History palette (Figure 7) stores and displays each action performed allowing you jump to any recent
stage of the image alteration. The alterations should be created during the current working session. After
saving or closing the document, the History palette clears all the contents. Each time you apply a change to an
image, the new state of that image is added to the palette. It is important to know that once you click on any
of the previous stages, all the changes that were made after it will be lost.

Figure 7. History palette

Adjustments
The Adjustment layers palette give you the ability to apply an effect to a group of layers in Photoshop, and
then you can edit that effect later, while preserving the original layers. (Figure 8)

Cropping is one of the most basic editing techniques that can improve your images. Cropping helps to bring
out the most important features in your image and focus the viewers’ attention on these features. Cropping
also allows you to make your image a standard photo size.

There are several ways to crop images in Adobe Photoshop:

MICROSOFT WORD TUTORIAL

What is Microsoft Word?

It's a word processor, which is a good definition. That's the programme you use to "process" a
text-based document, which means you format it, manipulate it, save it, print it, and share it.
Microsoft Word is the most widely used word processor on the planet. This is due to the fact
that it is a component of Microsoft's Office Suite, which is installed on one billion devices
worldwide (according to groovyPost). Word 1.0 for Windows was one of the first word
processors to offer a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface when it was released
in 1989. Because of its ease of use and robust features, it is now the preferred word processor
in both homes and offices. It is now available for the Mac operating system, as well as a web-
based version via an Office 365 subscription.

What Is Microsoft Word Used For?

You're now ready to learn how to use Microsoft Word. It can be used to create a variety of
business and personal documents. Here are a few examples of how you can put it to use:

• letter
• report or paper
• proposal
• newsletter
• brochure
• catalog
• poster
• flyer
• postcard
• sign
• banner
• resume
• business card
• invoice
• receipt
• product packaging
• mailing label
Step by step guidance

To start up the Microsoft Word application, go to START > Microsoft Office > Word, or
simply type 'Word' into the search box and click on the result. When it's open, choose New
document. This is the appearance of an opened blank Microsoft Word document.

1] Title and the Quick Access Toolbar

The title of the document, the Quick Access Toolbar, and a few other functions such as
Minimize, Restore Down / Maximize, Close, and Ribbon Display Options are located at the
top. You'll find the Save button (Ctrl+S) to the left of the Title Bar, where you can save the
document in the desired folder; the Undo Typing button (Ctrl+Z); the Repeat Typing button
(Ctrl+Y); and the Customize Quick Access Toolbar, where you can access the various
commands shown in the image below.
It is possible to Auto-hide the ribbon, show the ribbon tabs only, or show the tabs and
commands all the time in the Ribbon Display Options. Please see the image below.

The Ribbon is located beneath the Title Bar and consists of various tabs such as File, Home,
Insert, Design, Layout, References, Mailings, Review, View, Help, and Search. Let us now go
through each Tab and its commands.

2] Home
In Microsoft Word, the Home tab is the default tab. This tab contains features for the clipboard,
fonts, paragraphs, styles, and editing. You'll find commands like copy, cut, and paste in the
Clipboard section. The Font section comes next. You can change the font and font size for your
text here, as well as change the case, apply bold or italic formatting, underline, change the font
colour, and highlight text, and add various text effects and typography. Explore all of your
options for making your text look great and innovative!
The alignment options in the paragraph section allow you to align your text in the centre, left,
right, or justify it (that is, evenly distribute the text between the margins).

You can add or remove borders, change the indent, change the line and paragraph spacing, and
add bullets and numbers from the bullet and numbering libraries.

You can change the appearance of your document by selecting a style from the Styles section.
In the Editing section, you can search for text or other content in the document, as well as
replace a specific word or text with something else.
3] Insert
The Insert tab is the next one.

To make your document look more professional, you can add a stylish cover page from the
numerous styles available, as well as a blank page from the Pages section. Inserting a table, a
picture from your picture gallery, an online picture from the web, shapes, 3D models, charts,
SmartArt, and screenshots from the Tables and Illustrations sections is another useful feature.
For more information, please see the images below.

Tables can be added.

Shapes can be added.

You can use SmartArt – and much more!

In the Header & Footer section, you can insert a built-in header and footer or insert one from
an online source. Page numbers can also be added to your document. Similarly, the Add-ins,
Media, Links, Comments, Text, and Symbols sections contain a plethora of other features and
commands.
4] Design
The Design tab contains commands for Document Formatting and Page Background. Choose
the right theme for your liking from the various options available to make your document look
more consistent and classy. Colors, fonts, effects, and paragraph spacing are among the
additional features.

If you want to add a splash of colour to the background of the document, you can change the
page colour, as well as add a Watermark and page borders.
4] Layout
In the Page Setup section of this tab, you can adjust margins for the entire document or for a
specific section, as well as customize it. You can change the Page Orientation to Landscape or
Portrait, as well as the page size for your document and the number of columns.

You can also specify the document's size.

In the Paragraph section, look for the settings to increase or decrease the Indent and Spacing.
Other features related to text and image placement, grouping multiple images, and rotation
options can be found in the Arrange section.
6] References
You'll find commands for the table of contents, footnotes, research, citations and bibliography,
captions, index, and table of authorities on the References tab.

7] Mailings
Here you will find settings that will assist you in creating envelopes and labels, starting the
mail merge where you can send it to multiple recipients, writing and inserting fields,
previewing results, and finishing the mail merge.

8] Review
The Review tab contains functions for proofing, speech, accessibility, language, comments,
tracking, changes, comparing, protecting, and inking. The Spelling and Grammar function (F7)
is the most important of all. After you've finished writing your document, double-check it for
spelling and grammatical errors.

9] View
You can change the views in the View tab, such as Read Mode, Print Layout, Web Layout, and
so on. Explore the additional features in the immersive, page movement, show, zoom, window,
macros, and SharePoint sections.

Cell Structures
A Microsoft Excel worksheet has a specific amount of cells. There are 16,384
columns and 1,048,576 rows in Ribbon versions (2007 and later). You're not
reducing the number of cells when you insert and delete structures; you're simply
rearranging where your data is on the designated worksheet. Consider rearranging
an artwork on a wall. You're only shifting the painting's position, not the wall.

Inserting

We use Insert to make new cells, columns, and rows. Excel determines what you
are trying to insert based on your selection. If a full column is selected, Excel will
assume you mean a full column and it will skip the Insert window. You can insert
a cell, row, or column by doing one of the following:
 Press Shift ‐ Ctrl ‐ = on the keyboard (ctrl plus)
 or from the Home tab, in the Cells group, choose Insert
 or open the Right‐click menu and choose insert.
• To insert multiple at once, select the number of cells/rows/columns you
would like to insert and follow the steps above.
• The size and format of the new space is determined by the previous row
or column.
• This will push the existing cells, columns, or rows to the right or down to
make room for the new cells.
Inserting table
1. Open the spreadsheet in Excel.
2. Select the cells that hold the table's information with your mouse.
3. Select the "Tables" group from the "Insert" menu.
4. Select "Table" from the menu. A dialogue box titled "Create Table" will
appear.
5. Check the box "My table has headers" if you have column headings.
6. Make sure the range is correct, then click [OK].
7. To make the heads visible, resize your columns.
8. Click on a cell in the table to activate the "Table Tools" tab.
9. Click the "Design" tab > Locate the "Table Styles" group.
[Link] a style/color option that appeals to you. (Hover over the various table
styles to see a live preview.)
Inserting image

Here are the steps to insert a picture into a cell in Excel:

1. Go to the Insert tab.
2. Click on the Pictures option (it’s in the illustrations group).

3. In the ‘Insert Picture’ dialog box, locate the pictures that you want to insert
into a cell in Excel
4. Click on the Insert button.
5. Re-size the picture/image so that it can fit perfectly within the cell.

6. Insert the image into the cell.

Pressing the ALT key first and then moving the picture with the mouse is a
nice way to do this. As soon as it gets close enough, it snaps and arranges itself
with the cell's border.
Inserting Chart

1. Select data for the chart.

2. Select Insert > Recommended Charts.
3. Select a chart on the Recommended Charts tab, to preview the chart.
4. Select a chart.
5. Select OK.

LESSON 1 : ABOUT WORDPRESS

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open-source platform for building websites. On a

more technical level, WordPress is a PHP-based content management
system (CMS) that makes use of a MySQL database. In layman's terms,
WordPress is the most user-friendly and powerful blogging and website
builder available today.

What do I require to create a website?

A domain name – this is the name of your website such as [Link]

WordPress hosting – this is where your website files are stored.
45 minutes of your undivided attention.

What is the cost of a WordPress website?

The answer to this question is highly dependent on the type of website you
are attempting to create. We've written a 2,000-word guide that explains
how much it really costs to build a website. A typical business website can
cost as little as $100 per year or as much as $30,000. We advise all of our
users to start small and gradually add more features to their websites as
their businesses grow. You will save money and minimise potential losses
while avoiding overspending this way.
Which is the most effective website platform?

There are numerous website builders available to assist you in creating a

website. As a website platform, we recommend self-hosted WordPress.
WordPress is the most widely used website platform on the planet. It is
responsible for nearly 43% of all websites on the internet. WordPress is a
free and open source platform that includes thousands of pre-built website
designs and extensions. It is extremely adaptable and compatible with
virtually every third-party tool and service available to website owners.

WordPress can be used to create the following types of websites:

• Blog
• E-commerce website
• Business website
• Membership website
• Portfolio website
• Forum website
• Event website
• E-learning website
• Wedding website
LESSON 2 : WORDPRESS SETUP

Choosing the wrong website platform is one of the most common mistakes that
beginners make. Fortunately, you are here, so you will not make that mistake. For
the majority of users, a self-hosted [Link] site is the ideal solution. It
includes thousands of designs and add-ons that allow you to create any type of
website you can imagine. Please see our guide on why you should use WordPress
for more information on this topic. WordPress is completely free for anyone to
download and use to create any type of website.

Where does the cost come from if WordPress is free?

WordPress is free because you will need to arrange your own custom domain
name and web hosting provider, both of which are expensive. A domain name is
the internet address for your website. This is what your visitors will enter into
their browsers to get to your site (For example, [Link] or [Link]).
Following that, you'll require website hosting. A web host is required for all
websites on the internet to store their website files. This will be your website's
internet address. Let's get started by purchasing a domain name and hosting. After
purchasing, you'll need to click on select to select the plan you want and proceed
to the next step. On the following screen, you'll be prompted to enter a new
domain name.
Ideally, you should use [Link] domain name. Make sure it is relevant to your
company, easy to pronounce and spell, and simple to remember. Do you need
assistance selecting a domain name for your website? Check out these tools and
tips for picking the best domain name. After you've decided on a domain name,
click the next button to proceed. You will now be prompted to enter your account
information, such as your name, address, and email address. Optional extras are
also available for purchase on this screen. In general, we do not recommend
purchasing these add-ons. If you decide you need them later, you can always add
them.

To complete the purchase, you will then enter your payment information. After
you complete your purchase, you will receive an email with instructions on how
to access your web hosting control panel (cPanel). This is the dashboard for your
hosting account, where you can manage everything from getting support to
setting up emails. Most importantly, this is where WordPress will be installed.
When you use their link to sign up for Bluehost, for example, they will
automatically install WordPress for you. They created this one-click WordPress
installer to make it easier for non-technical users to create websites. To get
started, simply log in to your Bluehost account and click the Login to WordPress
button. This setup procedure has significantly reduced the learning curve required
to create a website.

You can also access the WordPress dashboard by typing [Link]/wp-

admin/ into your browser. You can create multiple websites with your Bluehost
account. Simply go to My Sites and use their one-click WordPress installer to
create new websites. If you use a different WordPress website hosting service,
such as SiteGround, HostGator, or WP Engine, you can find step-by-step
instructions for those providers in our comprehensive guide on how to install
WordPress. Once WordPress is installed, you can begin customising your
website's design by selecting a new template and adding new pages.
LESSON 3 : WORDPRESS THEME

A WordPress theme governs the visual appearance of your WordPress site.

WordPress themes are professionally designed templates that you can use to
change the look of your website. Each WordPress site comes with a basic theme
by default. If you go to your website, you'll see something like this:

Most users will find this unappealing. But don't worry; there are thousands of free
and paid WordPress themes available for installation on your site. The WordPress
admin dashboard allows you to change your theme. Navigate to the Appearance
» Themes page and click the 'Add New' button.
On the next screen, you can search through the 9,100 free WordPress themes
available in the [Link] themes directory. You can sort them by popular,
latest, featured, and other criteria such as industry, layout and more.

You might also be interested in our guide on how to choose the best WordPress
theme for your website. We'll be using Gradient for the purposes of this guide. It
is a well-known multi-purpose free WordPress theme with numerous design
options for all types of websites. If you know the name of the free theme you
want to install, you can look for it by typing it into the search box.
The theme will be displayed in search results by WordPress. You must move your
mouse over the theme and then click the Install button.

After you've installed your theme, you can customize it by selecting the
Customize option from the Appearance menu. This will launch the theme
customizer, where you can change your theme settings while viewing a live
preview of your website. WordPress does not include a drag-and-drop site builder
by default, but you can use a WordPress page builder plugin like SeedProd to
customize any theme to update fonts, change styles, colours, and other elements
to meet your website's requirements.
LESSON 4 : ADD CONTENT

WordPress includes two default content types: posts and pages. Posts are a feature
of blogging and appear in reverse chronological order (newer items displayed
first). Pages, on the other hand, are intended to be static "one-time" content, such
as your about page, contact page, privacy policy, custom landing page, and so on.
WordPress displays your blog posts on the front page of your website by default.
You can change this and have WordPress display any static page as your website's
homepage.

To display your most recent posts, you can create a separate page for your blog
or news section. You can also create a website without a blog section at all. After
that, let's start adding some content to your website. To begin, add a few pages to
your WordPress site. Don't be concerned if you don't have enough content for
these pages right now. They are always editable and up to date. In the WordPress
admin area, navigate to Pages » Add New page. This will take you to the page
editor screen, which should look something like this depending on your theme:
First, give your page a title; let's call this page 'Home.' After that, you can add
content in the text editor below. You can include text, links, images, videos,
audio, and so on. After adding content to your page, click the publish button to
make it live on your website. You can repeat the process by adding more pages
for different sections of your website. For example, a about page, a contact page,
and a blog page to display blog posts. Navigate to Posts » Add New in your
WordPress admin area, where you will see a screen similar to the one you saw
earlier when adding pages.

In the visual post editor, you can add a post title and then content. In addition,
you'll notice some extra options in the sidebar, such as post formats, categories,
and tags. You can save your post as a draught by clicking the save button, or you
can publish it by clicking the publish button. Please see our guide on how to add
a new post in WordPress for more detailed instructions on how to use all of these
options on post and page edit screens.
LESSON 5 : CUSTOMiziNg AND
TWEAkiNg YOUR WEBSiTE

You will be able to customise and present your content to your users now that
you have created some content for your own website. Let's begin by creating a
static front page (also known as homepage).

Making a Static Front Page

In your WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to the Settings » Reading page.

Click on the static front page and then select the 'Pages' you created earlier for
your home and blog pages under the 'Front page displays' option.

Don't forget to save your changes by clicking the 'Save Changes' button at the
bottom of the [Link] will now use the 'Home' page as the front page of
your site and the 'Blog' page to display your blog posts.

Change the title and tagline of your website.

You can choose the title of your site during the installation process. WordPress
adds a tag line to your site title that says 'Just another WordPress site' by default.
You can change the title and tagline of your website at any time by going to the
Settings » General page.

Your site title will be your website's name, such as WPBeginner. Typically, the
tag line is a single line that describes your [Link] can also leave the tag line
field empty if you prefer, as WordPress SEO plugins such as AIOSEO, Yoast
SEO, and others will override it for better search engine optimization. Don't
forget to save your settings by clicking the Save Changes button.

Configure the Comments Settings

WordPress includes a built-in comment system that allows your visitors to leave
comments on your posts. This is great for WordPress user engagement, but it is
also a target for spammers. You'll need to enable comment moderation on your
website to deal with this. Scroll down to the 'Before a comment appears' section
on the Settings » Discussions page. Check the box next to the option 'Comment
must be manually approved.'

Make Navigation Menus.

Users can use navigation menus to navigate between different pages or sections
of your website. WordPress includes a robust navigation menu system, which
your WordPress theme makes use of to display menus. To begin, navigate to the
Appearance » Menus page. Give your navigation menu a name and then click the
Create Menu button.
WordPress will now generate a navigation menu for you. However, it will be
empty for the time being. Then, select the pages you want to include in your menu
and click the add to menu button.

Your selected pages will fill the empty space in your navigation menu. You can
reposition these menu items in the menu by dragging them up and down.

You must now choose a display location. Your WordPress theme determines
where these locations are. Most WordPress themes include a primary menu that
appears at the top of your website's header. Finally, save your navigation menu.
LESSON 7 : iNSTALL PLUgiNS

WordPress Plugins function similarly to apps for your WordPress site. They
enable you to add features and customise your WordPress website. Consider
contact forms, photo galleries, and so on. Plugins can be installed from your
WordPress dashboard by going to the Plugins page. There are currently over
59,000 free WordPress plugins available. Paid plugins are also available from
third-party websites and developers. How do you decide which plugins to install

What is Windows 10 Video Editor ?

The Video Editor app has a number of video creation and editing capabilities,
including the ability to add music, text, motion, and 3D effects to your videos. It's
a follow-up to Movie Maker, with an emphasis on simple creative tools to help
you express your narrative.

Windows Video Editor: Manual Control

The Automatic Video option is fantastic for many things, but if you want the
personal control of Windows Movie Maker, you'll want to go a different route
with your video editing. This is how it works:

* Open the Photos app on Windows 10.

* Choose New Video Project after clicking the New Video button in the
upper right corner.
* Give your project a name.
* To import photos and videos, click the blue Add button in the top left
corner.
* To insert your photographs or videos in the sequence you desire, drag them
to the storyboard.

2
How To Trim & Split Video Clips

When you upload a video to the timeline, you can trim time from the beginning
or finish to make it shorter or longer. Here's how to do it:

By checking the box in the corner, you can:

* Select the clip you want to trim.
* Below the video preview window, click the Trim button.
* Move the sliders on each end of the video to get the clip length you want,
then click Done once you're done.

You may need to split a video into two or more sections on occasion. This is
similar to how the trim tool works.

By checking the box in the corner, you can :

* Select the clip you want to split.
* Under the video preview window, click the Split button.
* Click Done after moving the playhead (the lollipop icon) to the point where
you wish the video to be split.

3
* This will take you back to the timeline, where both clips will be visible.
Repeat as necessary to complete all of the splits.

Adjust The Duration of Photos

One of the best features of Windows 10's video editor is the ability to combine
photographs and movies into a single project. Although you can't split or trim a
photo, you can change how long it shows on the screen. The default time is three
seconds, but you may easily adjust it to suit your needs.

To change the duration of a photo in your project, first choose the photo by
clicking on it, then click on the 3.0 number in the corner to change the duration.
You can also accomplish the same thing by pressing the Duration button. You
have the option of selecting a preset time or entering a custom time in seconds.

4
Adjust Text to Videos on Windows 10

Photos and movies can have text added to them. This is perfect for titles, extra
information, or just to make your viewers laugh. To get started, simply select the
photo or video on your timeline and then click the Text button.

This will open a new window with a range of text styles to choose from. Each
style has its own properties (including motion) and will seem differently based
on where on the screen it is placed. Select one of the Layout options below the
font styles to determine your preferred text position.

You can change how long the text appears on the screen once you have the
content you need and have chosen where you want it to appear. To do so, drag
the blue trim handles left or right to select the text's start and finish times. The
text will show and disappear at the times you specify once you've configured it.

5
A title card can also be used at the start of your video or as a transition between
scenes. The title card is a text-filled blank slide. Under the preview window, look
for the Add Title Card button, and then add text to it as you did above. The title
card's background colour can be changed by clicking the title card and then
selecting a new colour from the Background button. You are free to include as
many as you need to assist you convey your narrative.

Using Photos and Video Filters

Applying video filters such as Sepia, Black and White, Denim, and others to your
video can give it a unique aesthetic. Any photo or video in your timeline can have
a filter applied to it. Unless you choose each clip individually and add filters to
it, they will not be applied to the full video.

Select the photo or video in your timeline and then click the Filters button under
the preview window to add a filter. By clicking on the styles on the right-hand
side of the filter screen, you may see a preview of the available filters. When
you're satisfied with your selection, click Done to apply the filter.

6
Adjusting the Ken Burns Effect

Select the photo or video in your timeline and then click the Filters button under
the preview window to add a filter. By clicking on the styles on the right-hand
side of the filter screen, you may see a preview of the available filters. When
you're satisfied with your selection, click Done to apply the filter.

Adding Music to Videos in Windows 10

The new Windows 10 Photos app's music settings are actually rather advanced,
but they're still quite simple to use. Confused? Allow me to explain. There are
several built-in audio tracks that you may use for free in your film. This is quite

7
essential since it ensures that you comply with copyright regulations if you upload
your video online.

Simply click the Background Music icon on the toolbar at the top of the page to
see what's available, then use the play button to listen to the music. When you've
found the one you're looking for, click it to highlight the track, then click Done.
So far, that doesn't sound particularly advanced, does it?

It gets even better since Windows will automatically adjust the track to fit the
length of your movie. When your video ends, there will be no more abrupt pauses
or fade-outs. The soundtrack will be properly synchronized to your video's length.
If you later upload another video clip, the soundtrack will adapt proportionately.
When you remove a few photographs, the soundtrack adapts to match. It's
extremely creative, and it truly gives your videos a professional look.

Sharing and Exporting Videos in Windows 10

So, there's a lot here, and you might not be able to finish your job in one sitting.
It's not a big issue if you don't. As you work, Windows saves everything for you,
and you can securely exit the Photos app when you run out of time. Simply start
the Photos app and select the Video Editor option in the top left-hand corner of
the screen to return to your project later. You'll find all of the video projects
you've been working on in this folder. To return to the editor and take up where
you left off, click one.

Click the Finish Video button when you're ready to share your video with others
to get a selection of possibilities. You can select the file size you want to create,
as well as whether you want to save it to your computer or send it to someone
else via email or social media. It's entirely up to you.

Video Editor Projects

1. Create a Book Trailer

Instead of writing a standard book report, ask students to create a movie-
style trailer that promotes a novel or non-fiction book. Students can think
creatively, share a tale with their classmates, and reinforce their learning in
a fresh way by making a book trailer.

2. Give a video tour

Students can create a film to augment social studies curriculum by
showcasing a prominent place or their favourite element of the institution.
If you're going on a field trip, have students film videos throughout the day
and add voice over narration to describe their experience.

A video tour of the school is also a terrific method to introduce prospective

students and visitors to the campus. Ask your fifth students to cooperate on
an orientation film for incoming kindergarteners as a way to transmit the
torch before they depart for middle school.

3. Celebrate the holidays

No matter what time of year it is, there is always something to celebrate.
Make video Valentines for parents or grandparents, or short educational
videos about lesser-known holidays by having kids film letters to Santa.
Students can also make digital thank-you letters for visitors to the school
or parent volunteers.

9
4. Create a News Channel
Have your students shoot a news report covering both local and worldwide
issues to augment their study in a current events class. Ask students to play
the roles of anchor, sports reporter, weather reporter, or entertainment
correspondent in the newsroom. Participating in a news segment
encourages everyone to participate and develops collaboration.

5. Start a Portfolio
Many high school pupils are considering applying to colleges. Allow them
to kickstart their applications with a portfolio video project that
demonstrates what makes them stand out.

Students of art can display their greatest work and design skills. Traditional
school applicants might respond to an application question or create a
video highlighting their community service and extracurricular activities.
