Introduction
The objective of IGBC Net Zero Energy Building Rating System is to facilitate a
holistic approach to make energy efficient buildings and fully powered by
renewable energy source
▫ Applicable for both new and existing buildings. Conditioned and Non-Conditioned
▫ Type of buildings - IT parks, banks, shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, airports, convention
centres, educational institutions (colleges, universities), factory buildings, schools, etc.
▫ Project must satisfy all the mandatory requirements and is able to demonstrate that the
net annual energy demand is zero
Rating Level
Net Zero Energy
• To qualify ,building should meet IGBC EB rating minimum energy performance
requirement - EPI Ratio of at least 1.0 (Actual EPI/Design EPI)
▫ As per ECBC 2007
• No minimum points requirement for project to be certified as “Net Zero Energy”,
until all its energy consumption is catered through “off-site” and On-Site
Renewable energy
Net Zero Energy Platinum
• Minimum points requirement for project to be certified as “Net Zero Energy
Platinum” is 80 points out of 100
• Further to achieving mandatory as stated in the earlier slide, project should
achieve improved EPI in range of 0.95 to 0.75 to score points between 15 and 75
• Depending on the EPI ratio achieved, rest have to be achieved through on-site and
off-site energy
• Essentially better building energy performance through improved envelope, HVAC,
LPD is cardinal, because only better passive and active building features leads to
lower EPI .
Excellence in Energy Performance (75 pt) and
Renewable Energy(25 pt)
For Baseline ECBC 2007 (For EB
Building) standard to be referred to
Mandatory - Energy Performance
• Option 1 – Meet Minimum Energy Performance Requirement as per the rating (IGBC EB)
• Option 2 – EPI ratio should be at least 1.0. i.e. Actual EPI should be equal to or more than
Design EPI
• Option 3- Demonstrate that performance of major equipment such as HVAC and Lighting
meets ECBC standards (ECBC 2007) for existing buildings
▫ Design COP should be equal or greater than prescribed
▫ LPD should be lesser or equal to LPD requirements prescribed
Mandatory - Thermal Comfort, Indoor Temp & RH
Following indoor temperature and RH should be maintained at least 90% of the time
• Temperature to be maintained at 26 +/- 2 degree C
• Relative Humidity 30 %– 70%
• Survey has to be conducted once in 6 months and prove at least 80% of occupants are
happy
Document Required
• Master Site Highlighting Buildings and Services
• Energy Modelling Data
• Energy Bills for 1 year
• Off-site Energy Contract and energy purchase/production – one year
• On-site Energy production details – past 1 year
• BMS screen shot for temp, RH for all three seasons
• Survey to be conducted for occupants comfort
Thanks
