1. This paper consists of ten (10) questions each carrying 10 marks.
2. Answer all questions.
3. Non‑programmable calculators and mathematical tables may be used.

1. a) Mention any two branches of Mathematics learnt in Form One.

b) Explain how Mathematics relates with Business Studies, Physics and


Chemistry.

2. a) Evaluate: 5/3 + 3/4 − (6/15 − 7/12).

b) Given x = 0.3̇1̇ and y = 0.2̇5̇ find: i) x + y ii) x − y.

3. a) Estimate the value of 37 × 489.

b) Write 5/7 correct to three significant figures.

4. a) The product of twice x and three times y is 24. Write the algebraic
expression.

b) Julius is four times older than Amina. Five years ago their ages summed
to 50. Find their present ages.

5. The ratio of men : women : children is 6 : 7 : 3. If women are 4200 find:


a) Number of children
b) Total population.

6. a) 10 men assemble a machine in 12 days. How long will 15 men take?

b) Find the speed in km/h if a car travels 115½ km in 35 minutes.

7. a) Find the equation y = mx + c of a line through Q(3,2) with slope 1/2.

b) Solve graphically:
x+y−3=0
x−y−1=0

8. a) Find the product between the sum of odd and even numbers between 25
and 45.

b) Define rational numbers with one example.

9. a) Juma buys 3 mangoes and 2 bananas for Tsh 1800. Mr Jackson buys 2
mangoes and 5 bananas for Tsh 2300. Find the price of each fruit.

b) Find the gradient of the line through (1,0) and (3,2).

10. a) Find (5x − 2y):(3x − y) in lowest form if x : y = 4 : 9.

b) Divide 156 litres in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5.
