F Listening
Listen to two friends talking about the man’s music career.
Choose the correct answer for each question.
1 Woman Hi, Ed! How are you? You missed the awards
show on Saturday.
Man Yeah, and the party. I planned to go, but I had a
headache in the morning and it didn’t get better.
Woman Oh, I’m sorry. The party after was quite boring,
anyway.
Man That’s because you don’t like dancing! I always enjoy
dancing at parties. Did they play any of my songs?
Woman They only played ‘The best time’ and ‘I have you’.
But their system sounded terrible and the music just
wasn’t loud enough.
Man Well, I’m glad they played some of my songs.
Woman Yes. But they didn’t play my favourite one, ‘It’s all a
dream’.
Man Oh wow, that’s one of the first songs I ever recorded!
Woman Well, it’s still my favourite. The words are quite
simple, but it felt like you were singing about my life at
that time.
Man It’s good you felt that way. I try to make music that
talks about how real people live their lives. But don’t you
like my new music?
Woman Of course! It just has a different style. I heard your
new song on the radio the other day! The last one was a
bit sad, so I like this new one better. It’s great, really
positive.
Man Oh, thank you. I’m already writing the next one … it’s a
bit angry, though.
Woman I’d love to hear it! So, tell me a bit about your
career. How does it feel to be famous?
Man Err … well, I’m not that famous. Most people don’t
know what I look like. Music has always made me happy,
but I didn’t expect people to enjoy my music. It’s not
always easy.
Woman Why? Is it difficult to write new songs?
Man Oh no! I always have new ideas. And I can write them
quite quickly. But I don’t know if my fans will like them.
Woman Don’t worry, Ed. I’m sure they’ll love them.
