HOW TO BE MORE DISCIPLINED?

I. INTRODUCTION
(1) Hello everyone,
Let us start with a simple question: Why do some people succeed while others fail,
even when they have the same opportunities?
Many people believe that success comes from talent or luck.
They think that only gifted people can achieve great things, or that success depends
on being in the right place at the right time.
While these factors can help, they are not the most important ones.
In reality, discipline plays a much bigger role than talent or luck.
Talent may give you a good start, and luck may give you a chance, but discipline is
what helps you continue and grow every single day.
Discipline is the key that helps us improve ourselves, stay focused, and achieve our
goals step by step.
Without discipline, even the most talented person can fail.
But with discipline, an ordinary person can achieve extraordinary success.
(2) In this talk, we will share 4 main ideas:
 What discipline is
 Why discipline is important
 Common Problems when we develop discipline
 How we can build discipline in our daily lives

1
II. WHAT IS DISCIPLINE?
(3) So now, let’s take a closer look at what discipline really means.
(4) As we know, Organizational Discipline is a set of rules of a community,
organization, group... that requires everyone to comply to achieve the best job
performance.
There is a very famous quote by President Ho Chi Minh: “Discipline is the strength
of the army”

2
(5) But today we want to focus our presentation on one type of discipline,
which is self-discipline.
In my opinion, self-discipline is far more important than Organizational Discipline.
So, what is self-discipline? It’s very simple.
It means doing what is necessary, not what is easy.
Doing what you need to do, even when you don’t feel like doing it.
It means choosing long-term results over short-term comfort.
This sounds simple, but it is actually very difficult.
Every day, we face situations where we don’t feel motivated.
We feel tired, lazy, or distracted.
In those moments, discipline is what helps us continue.
(6) For example, discipline means:
 Waking up early even when your bed feels too comfortable
 Studying even when you would rather scroll on your phone
 Finishing your work on time instead of delaying it

3
(7) Discipline is not about being perfect.
It does not mean you never make mistakes or never feel tired.
Instead, discipline is about being consistent.
(8) Consistency means doing small actions again and again, every day.
These actions may seem small, but over time, they create big results.
For example, studying 30 minutes a day may not seem impressive.
But after one month, three months, or even a year, the results can be amazing.
In other words, discipline is the bridge between your goals and your success.
Without it, your goals remain dreams.
With it, your dreams become reality.

4
III. WHY IS DISCIPLINE IMPORTANT?
(9) Discipline is important for many reasons, and it affects almost every part
of our lives.
(10) It helps you achieve your goals
It builds strong habits
It improves self-control
It increases confidence
(11) Firstly, it helps you achieve your goals
Everyone has goals.
Some people want to get good grades, some want to learn new skills, and others
want to build a successful career.
However, without discipline, these goals remain just dreams.
For example, if you want to improve your English, you cannot study only once a
week or only when you feel motivated. You need to practice regularly, even on
days when you don’t feel like it.
Discipline helps you stay committed to your goals, even when it is difficult.

5
(12) Secondly, it builds good habits
Discipline helps turn repeated actions into habits.
At first, something may feel hard. For example, exercising every day or reading
books regularly might feel boring or tiring. But if you keep doing it with discipline,
it becomes a habit.
Once something becomes a habit, it becomes easier. You no longer need to force
yourself. It becomes a natural part of your life.
Good habits are the foundation of a successful life.
(13) Thirdly, Discipline teaches you how to control your thoughts, emotions,
and actions.
Instead of doing what is easy, you learn to do what is right.
For example:
 You choose studying over social media
 You continue working even when things get difficult
 You stay calm instead of giving up
Self-control is a very powerful skill that helps you succeed not only in school, but
also in life.

6
(14) It increases confidence
When you keep your promises to yourself, you begin to trust yourself more.
For example, if you say, “I will study today,” and you actually do it, you feel
proud.
Over time, this builds confidence.
You start to believe that you can achieve your goals.
This confidence motivates you to keep improving.
(15) And the last one, it helps you manage time better
Discipline also helps you use your time more effectively.
Instead of wasting hours on unimportant things, you focus on what truly matters.
You become more organized, more productive, and less stressed.
Time is one of the most valuable things we have, and discipline helps us use it
wisely.

7
IV. COMMON PROBLEMS
(16) Even though many people understand the importance of discipline, they
still struggle to develop it.
Let’s look at some common problems.
(17) First, laziness.
Sometimes, we just don’t feel like doing anything.
We feel tired, bored, or unmotivated.
Instead of working, we choose to relax, sleep, or do something easy.
For example, you may plan to study, but then you lie in bed and scroll on your
phone.
Laziness is normal, but if we let it control us, it becomes a big problem.
It stops us from growing and improving.

Second, distractions.
In today’s world, distractions are everywhere.
Our phones, social media, games, and videos are always calling our attention.
You may want to study for 30 minutes, but then you check your phone “for just one
minute.” Suddenly, one hour is gone.
Distractions waste our time and break our focus.
This makes it very difficult to be disciplined.

8
(18) Third, not having clear goals.
If you don’t know what you want, how can you stay focused?
For example, saying “I want to be better” is too general.
Better at what? When? How?
Without clear goals, you feel lost.
You don’t know what to do, so you end up doing nothing.
(19) Finally, giving up too early.
Many people start with strong motivation. They feel excited and ready to change
their lives.
But after a few days or weeks, they stop. Why? Because they don’t see results
quickly.
They expect success to come fast. When it doesn’t, they feel disappointed and quit.
This is one of the biggest reasons people fail—not because they are not good
enough, but because they stop too soon.

9
V. HOW TO BE MORE DISCIPLINED?
(20) Now comes the most important part: how can we become more
disciplined?
(21) The first step is to start small.
Many people make the mistake of setting very big goals at the beginning.
For example, “I will study 5 hours every day.”
This sounds good, but it is not realistic.
After a few days, they feel tired and give up.
Instead, start with something small, like 30 minutes a day.
Small actions are easier to do, and they help you build a habit.
Step by step, you will improve.

(22) Second, set clear and specific goals.

For example:
 Bad goal: “I want to improve my English.”
 Good goal: “I will study English for 1 hour every day at 7 PM.”
Clear goals give you direction.
You know exactly what to do and when to do it.

10
(23) Third, create a daily routine.
Having a daily routine makes discipline much easier.
When you do the same activities at the same time every day, they become habits.
For example:
 Wake up at the same time
 Study at the same time
 Go to bed at the same time
A good routine reduces the need to make decisions, which saves energy and
increases consistency.
(24) Next, remove distractions.
If you want to focus, you need a good environment.
You can:
 Put your phone in another room
 Turn off notifications
 Study in a quiet place
When there are fewer distractions, it becomes much easier to concentrate.

11
(25) Another useful method is the 5-minute rule.
When you feel lazy, tell yourself: “I will do this for just 5 minutes.”
Five minutes feels easy, so you are more likely to start.
And the interesting thing is, once you start, you often continue for much longer.
(26) Also, remember to be consistent, not perfect.
Many people think they must do everything perfectly. But this is not true.
If you miss one day, it’s okay. Everyone makes mistakes.
The important thing is to continue the next day. Don’t stop completely.
Progress is more important than perfection.
(27) Finally, reward yourself.
After you complete a task, give yourself a small reward.
For example:
 Watch a short video
 Eat something you like
 Take a short break
This makes the process more enjoyable and helps you stay motivated.

12
VI. AN EXAMPLE OF DISCIPLINE
(28) Now let me give you a simple example about discipline
Imagine a student who wants to improve their English.
They decide to:
 Study for 30 minutes every day
 Learn 5 new words daily
 Practice speaking for 10 minutes
At the beginning, it feels slow. They don’t see big results in the first week.
But they don’t give up. They continue every day.
After one month, they understand more.
After two months, they can speak more confidently.
After three months, their English improves a lot.
Why?
Not because they are more talented than others, but because they are consistent and
disciplined.
This shows that small actions, repeated every day, can create big results.

13
VII. CONCLUSION
(29) To conclude, discipline is the key to success.
It is more important than talent and stronger than motivation. Motivation comes
and goes, but discipline stays.
If you want to improve your life, remember these three simple ideas:
 Start small
 Stay consistent
 Never give up
Discipline is not easy, but anyone can learn it.
If you improve just a little bit every day, your future will change in a big way.
Thank you for listening!
