RESCUE OPERATION

Accident is an undesirable event or occurrence.

Rescue Operation is an activity or organized procedure to free a victim from danger or confinement.

Rescue Operation is the steps taken when an accident occurs, in order to saves lives and limit damage or
property.

The goal of a rescue team is prompt evacuation of the victim from the site of the accident.

Rescue Squad requires skill acquisition like Police, Fire Service, doctors, FRSC (Federal Road Safety Corps)

TOOLS FOR RESCUE OPERATION

 Search and rescue dogs and horses


 Helicopter
 Special vehicle such as ambulance, fire truck etc.
 Fire Extinguisher
 Jaws of life: Hydraulic cutting and spreading tools

TYPES OF RESCUE OPERATION

 Highway Rescue Operation: This is the operation carried out when there is a car accident on the
highway.
 Air – Sea Rescue (ASR): this is the coordinated search and rescue of emergency water landing
and people who survived shipwreck or boat mishap
 Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR): This search and rescue operation is carried out during war or
combat zone.
 Mine Rescue: This is the specialized job of rescuing miners who are trapped or injured in
underground mines after mine accidents
 Cave Rescue: This involved rescuing people trapped, lost, or injured in the wilderness or in caves.
 Surface Water Rescue: This is the rescue of a person who is afloat on the surface of the body of
water.
 Vehicle Extrication: This is the process of removing vehicle around a person who has been
involved in a motor accident.
 Urban Search and Rescue: This involves the location, extrication and initial medical stabilization
of victims trapped in collapsed building or trenches.
 Fire Rescue Operation: This is an operation rendered when there is a fire accident. Fire Accident
by electrical fault is called electrical fire. Accident as a result of gases, volatile liquid, are called
Chemical Fire. Physical accident resulting to fire is called Mechanical fire.
DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF RESCUE OPERATION

 Securing the environment: Saving the victims from severe injuries or even death
 Limiting the extent of damage
 Securing the victim and other properties like vehicle, machinery etc.

STEPS INVOLVED IN RESCUE OPERATION

 Observe quickly what happen


 Look for danger to yourself and to the casualty
 Make the area safe
 Locate the victim
 Evacuate the victim as fast as possible
 Render First Aid
 Carry the victims to the hospital for intensive medical attention.
