1. Meaning of a Computer
A computer is an electronic machine that accepts data (input), processes it, stores it, and
produces information (output).

information.
2. Parts of a Computer
A computer system has four main parts:
A. Input Devices
Input devices are devices used to enter data and instructions into the computer.
Examples:
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Scanner
- Microphone
- Webcam
Uses:
- Keyboard: typing letters and numbers
- Mouse: pointing and clicking
- Scanner: copying documents and pictures
- Microphone: recording sound
B. Processing Devices
These devices process data and control all computer activities.
Examples:
- CPU (Central Processing Unit)
- System Unit
Important Point:
The CPU is called the brain of the computer.
C. Output Devices
Output devices display results after processing.
Examples:
- Monitor
- Printer
- Speaker
- Headphones
- Projector
Uses:
- Monitor: displays text and images
- Printer: prints documents
- Speaker: produces sound
D. Storage Devices
Storage devices store data and information for future use.
Examples:
- Hard disk
- Flash drive (pen drive)
- Memory card
- CD / DVD
Important Point:
Storage devices keep data even when the computer is off.
