Planning
Learning Goal
Because I want to make a math application that combines math and fun for middle school
students, my goal with this project is to learn more about creating a math app for third
graders. I also want to get better at organizing my time and tasks, thinking critically and
creatively, and being information literate. Last but not least, I want to be as open-minded as
possible. I also want to be reflective so that I can comprehend all the information I come
across or be able to develop my ideas from the arguments I saw online into a useful product.
Last but not least, I want to be as open-minded as possible. I also want to be reflective so that
I can comprehend all the information I come across or be able to develop my ideas from the
arguments I saw online into a useful product. I will be able to comprehend other people's
thoughts and the rationale behind their beliefs thanks to this, and I will be able to embrace
those viewpoints wholeheartedly.
If I could enhance these attributes, I would feel happy and fully whole. They can, in my
opinion, improve me as a future employee, friend, daughter, and student.
Skills That are Expected to be Improved
Researcher
As a researcher, I think it will simplify my life when I need to find information. I'll be
ready to sort through the things that could hinder my work or creative process and
separate the true from the fake.
Reflective
This virtue will help me to arrange my ideas and inner thoughts. Now not only will I
have an awareness of circumstances, but I will also be able to control how I react and
what I learn from them, all the knowledge that I will gather can be conducted in the
way I see fit. This will help me to develop my potential. A person always uses his
brain; but, I think if someone possesses this quality, he has unimaginable ability; he
and his mind would align to work in a harmonic way; I believe this is the best thing to
learn in life together with some other skills and for me with the greatest frankness in
the world, I hope for the best in order to be the best me that I can be.
Open-Minded
By maintaining an open mind, as aforementioned, I can comprehend the perspectives
that other people have to present without any type of barriers, external to my being,
that encumber my thinking. At present, I would consider that I have some degree of
mastery of this ability, but there is something to be said about the barriers created in
communication due to stereotypical notions of someone, or past prior incidents that
cause a feeling of hate or just un-calified thinking of an individual, because it truly is
a travesty for an individual to be stuck in some fallacy and eliminated from new
perspectives and ideas. It is a shame and it is for that reason why I wish to continue
honing this skill, to minimize any barrier that can eliminate me from increasingly
becoming better.
Critical-Thinking
This skill can be important in the apart of being able to asses and/or evaluate skills
associated with everyday situations and whether or not they are advantageous, having
the ability to assess who the best person for a specific task might be relative to group
assessments, or being able to evaluate if what an individual is bringing to the
conversation, is factual or merely divulsions.
Product Goal
I'm on a mission to create a math app that not only helps middle school students learn the
basics of math but also keeps them entertained. In many parts of the world, kids can't attend
school due to financial hardships. That's why I want to build a free math app that can assist
them in their learning journey. Plus, I plan to develop this app in both English and Turkish, so
even more children can access it without any barriers.

Project Diary
October 21, 2024 – We did our first MYP meeting with our supervisor teacher and
talked about what ı can do as my MYP project. We came up with different ideas but
we had to eliminate the university-level ideas because I didn’t have both knowledge
and time to make those ideas come true. My supervisor teacher gave me an “Personal
Action Project Plan” to see my ideas on paper. The action plan helped me a lot
because it showed me what I can do and what I have to improve in a simpler way and
in my own words.
December 1, 2024 – We talked about some project examples that I might apply my
idea. I firstly thought about doing an artificial intelligence that benefits working
people, but I changed my mind because I was thinking about coding and writing the
prompts from zero and it looked pretty difficult and time consuming for me, so I
decided to make a website instead. I also drafted the first part of my project.
February 3, 2025 – ı wrote down the first part of my project and started to work on
the website. I found various different sites that I can create a website, and I chose
Google sites because it was easier to understand and it’s free.
March 3, 2025 - I had a delay in writing my project because of my procrastination
and I couldn’t give my first complete draft on this date. My teacher warned me about
me delayments and wanted me to give my first draft as soon as possible.
April 5, 2025 – I finished my complete draft and sent it to my teacher.
April 14, 2025 –I finished my report and added some small details into my products. I
signed in to “Padlet” and filled out the place and submitted my video –which
explained my goal and project to others- to the website. It was a little difficult to
submit because I tried to submit at the samea time with another student in class and it
got a little confusing and messy but we managed to do fill our padlet pages.
Applying Skills
Researcher:
When I was researching the information for this project, I realized that the most crucial part
of my skill set was combining critical thinking with the ability to verify the accuracy of the
information I found. This meant I could discern what was genuinely useful and what wasn’t
backed by scientific evidence.
Critical Thinking:
This skill came into play when I was selecting a topic and later deciding which pieces of
information were essential and which were just unnecessary fluff. I focused on what had
scientific backing versus what was merely hearsay. Ultimately, I used this ability to analyze
my text and ensure it met my expectations.
Reflective:
I applied this skill to filter through the information I gathered, organizing it in a way that
made sense for my text. Additionally, throughout my project, I relied heavily on this skill to
review various aspects, ensuring everything was on track and that my product goals aligned
with my initial vision.
Open Minded:
As I mentioned at the start of this report, it was vital to avoid creating barriers or limitations
that could hinder my ability to acquire new information.
Reflection
Which were my problems while doing the work?
While I was doing my work I had several problems, for example with the dates and goals that
I had scheduled, I could not meet the planned deadlines because of my procrastination
problems, so all parties ended up having a delay and the final delay of the work I believe was
around three weeks. The second problem I had was that I didn't know the 3rd grade math's
curriculum, so I had to start all over again and it caused an extra delay. The sources of my
information, a lot of them didn't come from worthy fide sites so I just couldn't trust it and had
to end up resting but I consider that at least it improved the information selection part,
leaving me more attentive to what appeared and making me be more critical about my own
work, bringing a better result.
What did I learn from my project?
I learned that teaching mathematics in simple terms and talking in a pediatric tone, so primary
school students can understand, at the same time is a very complicated and difficult subject;
and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Another thing I learned is I have a serious procrastination
problem that needs to be addressed and taken care of immediately, and I am trying to get over
it. Moreover, I learned that the most important part of creating a project is following the plan
you made. It is such a boring, difficult and longest task but it is the most important task. And
having such discipline that I can follow my plan without procrastinating, is my dream.
The skills I developed
Firstly, I developed my “Researcher” skill. It may not seem like I collected lots of
information and researched for my project. However, looking in various studying and
teaching sites, and sorting out useful information from the useless ones were extremely
difficult tasks for me at first. I lost my interest in an instant and my brain begged me to stop
working but I kind of “tortured” myself into researching more and the pleas started to
disappear slowly. Now, I think I can research more quickly and freely.
The next skill I think I developed is my “Critical Thinking” skill. At first, I used all the
information I got from the internet and filled my website with it, without caring if it was
useful or not. Then, I started to notice that the website is getting filled with both useful and
useless information like a trash can. With that, I used my critical thinking skill to sort out
which information is necessary and which information is a higher level for primary school
students.
The parts of my product that I am successful at
I think I was successful at creating engaging content for the students. 3rd grade students stay
focused on something that’s interactive and contains visual materials. I added simple games,
animations and colorful illustrations. Also, the examples and explanations on the website are
simple and clear to students to grasp the topics. Besides, I provided plenty of practice
problems and gamified quizzes to make the learning journey more motivating.
Parts I need to improve in my product
I could’ve added instant feedback on quizzes to make it more motivating for students who
can easily lose interest and focus on things. I couldn’t have a chance to test the website in real
life with my school’s 3rd grade students because I procrastinated it. If I did, I would have
unique ideas and suggestions from students and their teachers to improve my website, which
would have a very positive effect on my project. Another thing I have to improve on my
website is that I could add “Parent and Teacher Resources” part, including resources that
guide parents and teachers on how to assist the students or track their progress could have
been a big plus.
