Surroundings
1. Matter: Anything that has mass and occupies space is called matter.

2. Physical Nature of Matter: Matter is made up of particles.

3. Characteristics of Particles:

- Particles have space between them.

- Particles are continuously moving.

- Particles attract each other.

4. States of Matter:

- Solid: Fixed shape and volume (e.g., ice).

- Liquid: Fixed volume but no fixed shape (e.g., water).

- Gas: No fixed shape or volume (e.g., air).

5. Change of State:

- Melting: Solid to liquid.

- Freezing: Liquid to solid.

- Vaporization: Liquid to gas.

- Condensation: Gas to liquid.

6. Factors Affecting Change of State:

- Temperature

- Pressure

7. Evaporation:

- Conversion of liquid into vapour at any temperature below boiling point.

Factors affecting evaporation:

- Surface area

- Temperature

- Humidity

- Wind speed
