Group Eight
a) Design a Network:
Two of the departments in the university are about to be rehoused, and jointly
need to install a new computer laboratory. This laboratory will occupy two
adjacent rooms, with each room containing 45 machines. The departments
require:
(i) Each laboratory must be capable of operating independently. It should be
possible to disable the network in each room separately, and at a single point.
(ii) The two laboratories should be capable of being combined for use with large
classes.
(iii) Each laboratory requires access to its own NT server. Both laboratories
require access to the same Linux server.
b) Draw up a network design for situation, for each of the scenarios depicted
below. For each diagram, mention any design decisions which have influenced
your solution.
(i) Satisfy the requirements using the cheapest possible
solution.
(ii) Satisfy the requirements using Ethernet technology
only.
(iii)Given access to all of the data link protocols covered in this course,
and an unlimited expense account, what changes would you make to
the previous model.
Group 9
d) Compare the TCP AND UDP. Explain in detail.
e) Assuming you get a job as an ICT Officer in a multinational company that has six (6)
regional station that must be interconnected with others for smooth operation of the
organization. The company is about to network the regional offices together. Each physical
link must allow communication in both directions. Use the knowledge acquired in this
course to advice the management of the company based on the following:
(i) Recommend with justification the most suitable Network topology for the organization.
(ii) Give detail explanation of the recommended Topology.
(iii)Illustrate the explanation in (b) with a diagram to show the interconnectivity of the six (6)
regional offices.
(iv) Explain four (4) major advantages of the topology named in (a) over other network
topology.
