Assembly Instructions
Remove the mouse ear brims from the hinge clips, then slide them onto the cover. Make sure to push them all the
way until they are aligned with the edges of the cover texture, and the rabbit rear clips will engage to hold them in
place. I have done extensive testing to get the tolerances as perfect as possible on my A1, so that they fit snugly
but are still possible to remove. However, this may vary from printer to printer. If you are finding that the
tolerances are looser than expected, then adding couple drops of glue inside the hinge clip will attach them
permanently.
Next, cut a piece of filament slightly longer than the cover height. Align the hinges of the cover and spine, and
then push the filament through all the way. This may require a bit of wiggling to clear the gaps between the
hinges, especially if the piece of filament has a natural curve, but the tolerances were designed to be just loose
enough that this should not be too difficult.
The filament may be loose enough to start slipping out when the notebook is upright. To fix this, we will apply a
little trick. Gently bend one end of the filament sticking out of the hinge at an angle, as shown below.
Pull on the other end until the filament is fully inside the hinge, then trim the excess filament. The tension from
the bent piece will hold the filament firmly in place, but it will still be possible to disassemble by pushing it out with
a tweezers or paper clip.
Repeat this process for the other cover, and you are ready to insert the paper! For my example prints, I used
stacks of paper about 3-4mm thick after folding in half. I recommend using a hardcover book or heavy flat object
to press down the folded edge so that it will fit better inside the slot in the spine.
Insert the folded side into the slot on the spine, and then snap the binding onto the top and bottom to hold the
paper securely in place. The binding is designed using a snap-on hinge that allows it to rotate slightly, which
provides a smoother page-turning experience.
If you have trouble with the binding staying on, then you may be overstuffing the notebook; try removing a few
pages. Conversely, if the paper is sliding left and right under the binding, then add a few more pages until the
stack fits more snugly. When you are done, you should be able to hold the notebook as shown below, and the
paper will remain secure.
Finally, if you are finding that paper stack pushes the hinges and prevents the cover from fully closing, then gently
press on the hinges from the outside to compress the paper stack. I found that doing this a couple times can
make the paper cooperate better.
The assembly is now complete. I had a lot of fun creating these designs, and I hope you enjoy them!
