Motivation Letter
My name is Khagendra Bhatta, and I come from a remote region of Nepal where access to
modern technology was limited. From an early age, I was deeply curious about how things work.
This curiosity grew stronger when my community relied on solar panels for lighting. Whenever
technical issues arose, I attempted to fix them using analytical thinking. These experiences made
me practical, strengthened my belief in hands-on learning, and shaped my interest in technology.
Observing my problem-solving ability and creative thinking, my family and relatives often
encouraged me by saying that one day I would become an engineer. Their motivation inspired
me to pursue a career in Information Technology.
After completing my intermediate education, IT was not a popular field in Nepal. However, after
extensive research on the global scope of technology, I chose to study information technology
engineering. I was fortunate to receive a fully funded scholarship, as the high tuition fees would
otherwise have been unaffordable. During the second year, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted
academic schedules worldwide, yet it also accelerated digital transformation. Businesses,
education, and services rapidly shifted online, highlighting the importance of digital systems. At
the same time, cybercrime and security vulnerabilities increased, which sparked my strong
interest in cybersecurity.
Throughout my undergraduate studies, I developed several practical projects, including a web-
based chat application using PHP WebSocket and a question-and-answer discussion platform for
students using Laravel and Flutter. After graduating from a reputed university, I joined a
software company where I worked as a associate software engineer for more than a year and
contributed to front-end development projects using ReactJS. I have also completed the CCNA
(Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification to build a solid foundation in networking.
Furthermore, I joined Cosmos College as a Lecturer, where I gained valuable teaching
experience along with personal and professional growth.
I chose the erasmus mundus because of its unique academic excellence and mobility across
multiple universities. Studying in different countries alongside students from diverse cultural and
academic backgrounds will enhance my cross-cultural understanding, communication skills, and
global perspective. Additionally, adapting to new environments will strengthen my time
management, financial planning, and interpersonal abilities.
The first year of the CYBERSURE program at the Norwegian University of Science and
Technology (NTNU), Norway’s leading institution in science and technology, greatly attracts me
due to its strong research-oriented and practical learning approach. NTNU’s advanced facilities,
experienced faculty, interdisciplinary departments, and well-equipped libraries provide an ideal
environment for academic excellence. Moreover, as I am from a mountainous region of Nepal
where snowfall exist and remain cold maximum time of the year, the geographical and
environmental similarities of Norway will give me a sense of familiarity and comfort.
The CYBERSURE program aligns perfectly with my goal of enhancing Nepal’s digital security
infrastructure. By acquiring advanced cybersecurity expertise, I aim to mitigate severe threats
such as cyberattacks and data breaches. This program will empower me to become a competent
cybersecurity specialist capable of contributing meaningfully to national and global
cybersecurity challenges.
