NARRATIVE TEXT

Narrative text is a type of text that aims to entertain readers and tell a story from the past.
Social Function: to amuse or entertain the readers.
Generic Structure:
 Orientation
This section introduces the characters in the story (who), the setting (where), and the
time period (when) the story takes place.
 Complication
the core of the story, where problems or conflicts begin to arise. Conflicts can be
physical conflicts, conflicts between characters, or internal conflicts.
 Resolution
problems or conflicts in the story are resolved.
 Coda
contains moral lessons (moral values) that can be learned from the story.
Language Features
 Simple Past Tense
 Action Verbs (v2)
 Adverbs of Time (once upon a time, one day, finally, then).
 Specific Participants (Si Kancil, The Lion, Cinderella).
Jenis Narrative
 Fable (Fabel): Main Character is animals that behave like humans.
 Legend (Legenda): Main Character is human or mythological creature.
The Example
Cinderella (A Fairy Tale)
Orientation
Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl named Cinderella. She lived with her cruel
stepmother and two jealous stepsisters after her father passed away. The stepmother forced
Cinderella to work as a servant in her own house.
Complication
One day, the Prince of the kingdom held a magnificent ball and invited every young woman.
Cinderella wanted to go, but her stepmother forbade her and gave her countless chores.
After her stepfamily left, Cinderella wept sadly. Suddenly, her Fairy Godmother appeared
and, with a wave of her magic wand, turned her rags into a beautiful gown and a pumpkin
into a carriage. The Fairy Godmother warned her that the magic would end at midnight.
Resolution
At the ball, the Prince immediately fell in love with Cinderella. They danced all night. But
as the clock struck midnight, Cinderella rushed out, leaving behind one glass slipper. The
Prince was determined to find the girl who owned the slipper. He sent his royal guards to
every house. When the guard arrived at Cinderella's house, the slipper fitted perfectly on her
foot. The Prince was overjoyed and married Cinderella.
Coda
Moral Value: Always be kind and have hope, because kindness will eventually be rewarded.
