NSTP Reflection

NSTP or the National service training Program is one of the subjects in


College here in the Philippines, which all 1 st year students needs to take this
subject. My entire NSTP experience was really great, although going to
school on Saturdays felt new to me because I wasn’t used to that. On the
first semester or in our NSTP 1, I’ve really learned a lot. The first thing that
was discussed to us is the meaning of NSTP and why are we required to
attend our NSTP classes on Saturdays. The NSTP law and the legal bases of
NSTP was also discussed to us. I’ve also learned about the Article 3, which is
the Bill of Rights and of course the duties and responsibilities of a Filipino
citizens. Another thing that was taught to us is the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights which contains 30 articles. Nationalism and Patriotism was
also included in our topics in NSTP, and I’ve learned that NSTP can also be
applied in real-life situations. It promotes nation- building especially the
youth. I can apply my realization in real-life situations.

As we enter the second semester, NSTP 2 classes are mainly concerned with
community engagement with the help of partner communities and
organizations. We went to District 1, Cauayan City as it was the chosen
barangay of our school. We did some community service and of course we
are enrolled in the LTS component of the NSTP, we experienced teaching
some kids. We also enjoyed doing our instructional materials for the kids.
And when we had some asynchronous classes, I also experienced teaching
some kids here in our community, and I really enjoyed it a lot. Especially
seeing the kids having fun and learn something for me, it felt really good.
And because of these experiences, I’ve learned that NSTP is effective in
teaching self-improvement, performance, and community involvement.

NSTP 2 lessons taught me a lot and made me realize many things not just as
a student, but as a person as well. First, I understand more than to be a
volunteer is to be selfless, to think about the welfare of others before
oneself, and to offer to be a servant to the people, but that doesn’t mean
that the volunteer just gives and gives and gets nothing in return, the
volunteer receives great joy and uplifting because of the service he/she did
for others. What makes volunteerism different from most actions that benefit
our society is that it is borne out of one’s own choice, without any external
influence that requires a person to do something. NSTP gave me
opportunities to look at the brighter side of life and help other people. It
helped me realize to help people not just because it is the right thing to do,
but also because it would make me as well as the people I would help happy.
