Part 1: Introduction and Part 5: Conclusion & Recommendations

Project: Autonomous Vehicle Using Image Processing and Line-Following Sensors
Estimated speaking time: about 4 minutes

Suggested opening: speak naturally and pause briefly between the two main parts.

Presentation Script
Good morning everyone. Today, I would like to present two important parts of our course
project, which are the introduction and the conclusion. Our project is titled “Autonomous
Vehicle Using Image Processing and Line-Following Sensors.” It was developed with the goal
of building a small self-driving vehicle model that can recognize lanes and adjust its movement
automatically.

First, I would like to talk about the introduction. In the era of the Fourth Industrial
Revolution, automation and artificial intelligence are becoming more and more important in
daily life as well as in industry. One of the most promising applications is the autonomous
vehicle. A self-driving vehicle can observe its surroundings, make decisions, and move with
limited human intervention. Because of this trend, our team decided to study and build a small
autonomous vehicle model.

There are several reasons why we chose this topic. The first reason is practicality.
Autonomous vehicles represent a major technological direction in the modern world, so this
topic helps students approach technologies that are already being applied in real life. The
second reason is multidisciplinary integration. This project combines knowledge from
automatic control, image processing, Python programming, and Arduino embedded systems.
The third reason is feasibility, because the model uses common and affordable components
such as Arduino, a USB webcam, DC motors, and an L298N driver. Finally, this model has
strong potential for future expansion, for example with traffic sign recognition, obstacle
avoidance, or smarter navigation.

Our research objective was to build a self-driving car model capable of following a path and
reacting based on image information captured by a camera. To achieve this, we studied digital
image processing, the OpenCV library, and Python programming. We also established serial
communication between Python and Arduino, assembled the vehicle, and evaluated its
performance through experiments.

Regarding the scope of the project, our vehicle was designed mainly for flat indoor
environments, with low to medium speed. The system was expected to handle straight
movement as well as left and right turns. In terms of research methods, we used document
review, analysis and synthesis, and experimental testing with a real model.

Now, I would like to move to Part 5, which is the conclusion and recommendations. After
completing the project, our group successfully built a line-following vehicle model using a
webcam together with Arduino. The system was able to identify the lane from images captured
by the camera. In good lighting conditions, the vehicle could move relatively stably between
two lines. When it encountered a curve, it was still able to turn in the correct direction, although
the processing time was sometimes still slow. Overall, the experiment showed that Python and
Arduino could work together effectively in image processing and vehicle control, and the model
achieved the basic objectives set by our group.

However, our project still has some limitations, so we would like to propose several
recommendations. First, the image processing algorithm should be improved so that the
vehicle can operate more smoothly and more accurately. Second, more tests should be
carried out under different lighting conditions in order to evaluate the stability of the system.
Third, the hardware can be upgraded to improve line-following and turning performance. In
addition, ultrasonic sensors can be added for better distance measurement and obstacle
detection. In the future, this model can continue to be developed into a more practical
autonomous system with wider real-world applications.

In conclusion, this project gave us valuable experience in combining theory with practice. It
also helped us better understand the principles behind autonomous vehicle control. Thank you
for listening.

Quick Presenter Tips

 Keep a steady pace; this script is designed for roughly 4 minutes.
