Question 1: (15 Marks)
Compare between the following items with drawing:
(a) Routing and Switching (5 Marks)
(b) TCP/IP and OSI models (5 Marks)
(c) TCP and UDP (5 Marks)
Question 2: (15 Marks)
(a) Construct a network diagram for the local network at HIET Institute to contain 70 hosts
and to fulfill the following requirements: Guard our network against hacker's attacks,
Secure against the virus infection and IP masking. Note that, use the following devices:
routers, 24 port switches (one switch for each floor), firewalls, intrusion detectors, Domain
server, web server and backbone switches. (7 Marks)
(b) Discuss the switch modes with drawing, and which one is fast? (8 Marks)
Question 3: (15 Marks)
Suppose that you have been hired as a network engineer to design a new Ethernet LAN for a
private business company. The LAN contains the following:
- Web server: IP: [Link], MAC: BBBBBB
- DHCP server: IP: [Link], MAC: CCCCCC
- Mail server: IP: [Link], MAC: CCCCCC
- DNS server: IP: [Link], MAC: AAAAAA
- 2 computers:
Computer C1: IP [Link], MAC: DDDDD1
Computer C2: IP [Link], MAC: DDDDD2

servers in your LAN. (4 Marks)
(b) Show the contents of the MAC table in the local switch that is directly connected to computer
C1? (4 Marks)
(c) Show the contents of the routing table? (4 Marks)
(d) How many Collision and broadcast domains in this network? (3 Marks)

Assume the address of Host is [Link], and Subnet Mask is [Link]. Answer
the following questions:
1- Is this a Class A, or B or C address? And how many bits make up the Network portion?
(2.5 Marks)
2- How many bits are in the Subnet Mask? And how many bits are left for Host addresses?
(2.5 Marks)
3- How many separate addresses in each subnet? (2.5 Marks)
4- Which address represents the whole subnet? (2.5 Marks)
5- Which address is used to broadcast to the subnet? (2.5 Marks)
6- Which addresses are left in the valid host range? (2.5 Marks)

(b) What is the difference between Bridge and Switch devices? (5 Marks)
