INTRODUCTION

W hat you hold in your hand is a veritable love child of the Orishas. They have sought to be more widely known,
revered, recognised and channeled in today’s modern world. Desirous of assisting humanity in its pivotal
moments of evolution, the specific influence of these Great powers will once again[1] lead the children of the
Most-High, through a path of ascension which is in harmony with the elements and with Nature.

Existential crisis is pandemic, and many are left wondering who, what or where they are. Regardless, pay little heed
to vacuous ‘intellectuals’ who pretend to answer these questions while hiding behind convoluted words like
‘solipsism’ and ‘religious atheism’. Thus, words in themselves are meaningless without Wisdom, Truth, and Spirit.
The magus must tread carefully when conversing with atheistic minds, bent on chaos. Since, the people who
typically populate your personal universe are often an aspect of the collective imagination, as is in reality,
everything below Yesod[2]. Hence, most of these ‘others’, operate and are empowered by nothing more than a basic
artificial intelligence, with no concrete connection to ọkan[3] or the sphere of Tiphareth.

The Macrocosm operates a hive or collective consciousness which is merely a refraction of the Great One. There can
only be ONE. Everything else is an extension of this one source of consciousness. Which is Spirit, and the Yoruba
call Olodumare (O-ló-dù-ma-rè). In this volume, O-ló-dù-ma-rè will be the preferred word in referring to the
primordial divine source of existence. When properly intoned or vibrated in ritual, or as an invocation, this word
holds incredible power.

Nevertheless, through several initiations, and through navigating the spheres of consciousness, the practitioner rises
to a gnosis of unity. Here, the adept may start to perceive the cosmos as if she is its only inhabitant. Because she is.
Nevertheless, to offer useful service to the collective; to O-ló-dù-ma-rè, the adept must be grounded in ayé [4] or
Malkuth. Hence, esoterically speaking becoming Godhead or O-ló-dù-ma-rè, made flesh.

Firstly, the neophyte to this tradition must be initiated through the Spheres of the Orishas to achieve adept hood
within the current, and this does not come without personal sacrifice. However, having persevered and having been
anointed by The Council of the Orishas, who represent O-ló-dù-ma-rè in Ori [5], the Magus must choose to descend
like the Orishas before her, to ‘re-create’[6] the world in the image of O-ló-dù-ma-rè[7] . This descent can be
hazardous to say the least and requires that the practitioner or the modern Babaaláwo[8] flow balanced energy (or
what is called in the Yoruba, àṣẹ [9]) to the Earth from the higher realms, while not allowing the power thus
generated to become feral during the process.

Therefore, the main objective of this book, is to equip the advanced practitioner with a grimoire for self-deification;
or more accurately the awakening of the divine function within the humanity of the magus. If you have read Genie
Magick Unleashed[10], you will probably know that I am vested in result oriented magick. Hence, this volume will
follow a similar ethos. It is a grimoire for lodges, priesthoods and solitary magi who seek to explore The Great
African Powers and achieve initiation into the sacred currents of that tradition and the orisha deities. Deities who
have worked with and through African priesthoods, through the Yoruba tradition, and now the diaspora for
thousands of years.

Essentially, the lower realms of the psyche and by extension, that of the collective human consciousness, exists in a
state of chaotic darkness. Nevertheless, it must be understood that this darkness requires the permeation of Divine
light from the Ori.

The darkness, chaos or irukerudo[11] is an essential part of creation and serves its purpose dutifully. Unwittingly,
New Agers call this redemption of darkness, shadow work. However, there is nothing ‘new age’ about this process.
The darkness requires its due, and as long as this is understood from the perspective of compassion and empathy,
then balance will be achieved. Hence, the Orisha Esu, as we shall see, acts as the archetypal devil or trickster while
simultaneously being the gateway to the other Orishas.

Nevertheless, the flow of energy(àṣẹ) to ayé[12] or Malkuth from the higher realms (Ori) must be balanced as earlier
stated to prevent ferality. This balance is achieved through a strong connection and flow of àṣẹ between ori,
irukerudo, ife, oju inu and ayé.
Hence, this is why the Orisha Èṣù, is the gateway deity to the other Orishas. Èṣù, like Lucifer primarily represents
the primordial cosmic impulse of individuation, individuality and identity. Èṣù, intensifies the connection with the
powers and influences of the other Orishas. Therefore, the Magus must establish a connection with Èṣù, (their own
celestial right of godhood) prior to approaching serious work with the other Great Powers.
The next chapter discusses the socio-political and economic effect of spirituality on Africa and by extension the
world, and the collective ergregore of humanity. This serves to create a grounding of spiritual ideas to the theatre of
modern society, thereby creating context, texture and balance to our esoteric discussions.
Subsequent chapters of the book delve further into the ritual, ceremonial magick, initiation and pathworking rites
that will ultimately enable the practitioner, assume the relevant god forms of the Orishas. Such theurgic work is not
for the faint of heart and should not be approached lightly. Invariably, the magus who feels inexorably drawn to the
current of the Orishas, is typically prepared and with discipline and perseverance more than capable of harnessing
these divine energies, enabling the performance of meaningful work on the earth. Know that this path is by
invitation only. The evidence of your invitation is the volume in your hand. Now, it is time to submerge yourself, the
adept, in the currents of this most sacred African- Earth tradition. Let us begin.
THE PROBLEM WITH AFRICA

S hesavannah.
darted purposefully across the knee-high pampas grass that inundated the sparse plains of the African
The sun was high and the air heavy with humidity. She had straggled briefly from her family, a group
of fruit gatherers and scavengers. Exhausted, she paused for breath, peering into the distance for a sign of her
troop. That’s when she heard the slight rustling sound behind her right shoulder. Immediately, a sense of dread
filled her, and her heart started to race. Then followed a low, rumbling, blood curdling growl. Time stood still and
all she knew now, was mortal, primal terror. That was when the smell of the Smilodon reached her nostrils. The
wretched, murky, putrid stench of carrion. And as the beast charged, its feline eyes filled with rage, the air rent with
its savage roar, she knew it was too late. Her emotions ricocheted from extreme alertness, to terror, panic, horror,
pain, acceptance, peace and finally unity with the One.
To understand the primordial forces of the Orishas or any pantheon of deities, one must regress in vision and in truth
beyond even the primordial expression of emotions that acted as vehicles of psychic evolution for prehistoric
humanity. Deities establish and administrate lineages, land and blood lines. They are the divine custodians or patent
holders of variations in human genealogies. Deities however respect hierarchies, even as among them there is a
constant tussle for territory and expression in this ever-distracted world humanity has helped create.
The Problem with Africa has been an inferiority complex provoked by a lack of understanding of origins and
responsibility. A person cannot assume the form of integrity and dignity if their supreme image of divinity and
identity looks like a stranger. The Nordic culture references their higher divine selves through Odin and his
hierarchies. The rest of the West have the Enochian angels[13] and an image of The Prince of Peace, that is suitable to
their self-identification. The blue-eyed Jesus.
Until your God, gods, or sense of self -deification and identification look like you, you will remain a slave to those
who are not so gullible. If not enslaved physically, then mentally and spiritually.
The Orishas, like any self-respecting pantheon of deities represent powerful primordial archetypes which are
specifically attuned to the frequency of a particular genealogy. The Orishas are specialised deities who resonate
powerfully to the true light. There is a false light and ‘by its fruit you shall know it’.[14]
Africa[15], as a result of its disconnection from its primordial archetypes has become an unwelcome guest in her own
house. The rubber terror and massacres perpetrated in the Congo by the Belgian ergregore through one of its high
priests, Leopold II[16] of Belgium, is a despicable example. Below is an account regarding a Belgian enforcer called
Fiévez.

“All blacks saw this man as the devil…

From all the bodies killed in the field, you had to cut off the hands. He wanted to see the number of hands cut off by
each soldier, who had to bring them in baskets ... A village which refused to provide rubber would be completely
swept clean. As a young man, I saw [Fiévez's] soldier Molili, then guarding the village of Boyeka, take a net, put ten
arrested natives in it, attach big stones to the net, and make it tumble into the river ... Rubber causes these torments;
that's why we no longer want to hear its name spoken. Soldiers made young men kill or rape their own mothers and
sisters”[17]
As magicians, adepts and magi who have picked up this grimoire, why are these political references necessary in a
volume such as this? Results. If your gnosis and relationship with high forces and contacts cannot or does not
produce meaningful work in creating heaven on earth, then you are merely an intellectual. Nevertheless, the
primordial Orishas were released by O-ló-dù-ma-rè to guide the black race and her sympathizers to perform a great
work. This work entails the Great work which we all as travelers on this road of light and wisdom are individually
participating.

Orisha veneration, for the magus seeking immersion in this path, is not an excuse for idolatry. There is a place for
idolatry, but not for the adept. The Orishas seek adepts who will assume their god forms in total gnosis of what their
energies represent and how it functions in the cosmos. Their astral personification is to give context to these
primordial energies and should not[18] be worshipped by the adept. Veneration is sufficient in creating the relevant
psychic links. This in addition to other practices, prevents obsessions and possessions; unless of course, this is the
aim of the practitioner as you may find in voodoo and vodoun priesthoods. There is a fundamental operative
difference between possession and assumption. A magus with a sufficiently developed and adapted personality can
assume a god-form and allow the energy to operate through her receptive, prepared and fortified sense of identity.
Conversely, possession or obsession can be an unpredictable, often unstable, disruptive and inefficient way of
performing meaningful work by the contact. It is often a desperate attempt by a deity or in most cases, parasitic
astral garbage to temporarily or permanently hijack the psyche of an ecstatic.
A magician or Babaaláwo who can successfully mount and wield the great African powers, will perform what the
uninitiated may call miracles. May the miracles you perform bless the world, and may it especially bless Mother
Africa[19]. Hitherto, Africa has been visited by deities, wielding energetic weapons that sought to bind and oppress
her. They polluted her spiritual waters and raped, mutilated and enslaved her children. They lied to her daughters
who survived, that they were not worthy. That to be acceptable they required straight hair, melanin stripped skin,
alien ideals and aspirations and war with the black male (blackmail[20]).
The problem with Africa is one of identity crisis. Similarly, the Native American struggle against external slavery[21]
and subsequently acceptance in modern society was that of identity.
Though slavery existed among the native Americans prior and during the invasion by the colonists in what is today
The United States of America, The Native Americans swiftly and violently revolted during the Yamasee War
against the forced predicament. Perhaps, since they similarly refused to assimilate the new religion and deities that
the colonials brought with them from Europe, The Native Americans maintained a connection to their Earth based
and shamanistic understanding of the cosmos and their own identity. They had faith in their inner deities and were
rewarded with strength to fight back against their oppressors even though they were technically disadvantaged.
Nonetheless, a similar conflict ensued in the heavenlies above the warring parties. “As above, so below, as within, so
without, as the universe, so the soul…”[22] How can your collective deities, collective ergregore[23], and lineage
guardians defend your blood line when you switch allegiance to a ‘strange god.’[24]
Self-identity is the seed of consciousness. It is balanced by the divine will or the Keter, the Ori, the Ehyeh Asher
Ehyeh[25] or I am that, I am. This is the realm of the Orishas. Note that self -identity, itself is only an emanation and
not God the almighty. It is not Olodumare, It is not the Ayin nor the Ein Sof[26] nor The Source of consciousness. As
far as the cosmos is concerned O-ló-dù-ma-rè is both inside, outside and part of it.
This unfathomability of O-ló-dù-ma-rè means that the Babaaláwo must work from Ori or Kether. When the Orishas
are venerated, understood and their energies channeled by the descendants of the African genealogy and their
sympathizers, the problems that bedevil Africa as a continent and as a people will be contained. These problems are
rooted in identity. Hence, this is where the solution resides. This is a spiritual work akin to that undertaken by John
Dee with the Enochian angels in helping establish the British Empire.
Africa is much more than an empire. It is a spiritual hub and contains the planetary heart. When the true light that
shines from O-ló-dù-ma-rè is channeled by competent Babaaláwo across the world, the planetary heart will begin to
heal.
The Native or indigenous cultures, like the Native Americans, Polynesians, Hawaiians, have through the veneration
of their particular deities who are of the true light tried to anchor the planetary grid and assist in the healing of the
human ergregore.
However, the onslaught from chaotic, false light powers[27] has proven relentless, and so it is time for Africa and her
children to step up and not only assert their spiritual legitimacy but roar like Sango!
Everything is Spirit, so don’t get distracted by their bodies, which incidentally is simply condensed Spirit.
WHO ARE THE ORISHAS?

T heconsciousness.
Light descended. It was not yet a physical light, but rather a spiritual light, the light of being and
[28]
The darkness, its twin, comprehended it not. Nevertheless, it conspired against the light and
sought to corrupt its path. This spiritual light travelled at the speed of thought for it soon became thought. And as it
crystalized through the spheres of the supernal, the mental, the astral and the gross, it became stable and cool enough
to be manipulated by forces counter intuitive to Source. These rebellious forces forged and produced a despicable
facsimile of the light. This was a false light. It mimicked life, but only had existence by adulterating the true light or
àṣẹ from O-ló-dù-ma-rè.
Hence, humans instead of telepathy developed telecommunication. Instead of teleportation, developed
transportation. Instead of service to others, humanity was steered towards service to self. Finally, ayé, the spirit of
the Earth in humanity’s delusion ceased to be a living being and became instead for man, a piece of rock floating in
outer space.
Eventually, these amoral and predatory forces started mass producing from genetic manipulation, more ‘humans’ to
incarnate on the lower planes. These incarnates were not humans at all, but rather empty soulless vessels that served
as conduits for the children of abomination residing in the darkness. These are the soulless ones that constitute a
stupendous percentage of the Earths’ population today. The true humans were enslaved spiritually, tortured and
recycled in the astral and physical realms. Slavery is not a human invention any more than oxygen is not.
Nonetheless, the Orishas still reside on the true spiritual Earth which their chief, the Orisha Obatala under the
instruction of Olodumare created. General humanity resides on the false earth, ruled tyrannically under the false
light in a sort of depraved farm. Humans are utilized as a food source and as beasts of burden. Many, experience this
as depression, a mental and spiritual exhaustion, as well as a palpable sense of lack of control in their lives.
Hence, the primordial Orishas of the true light, shrouded in Love and wisdom, seek to guide the called, back to the
spiritual earth, the so-called heaven of Christian fantasies.
But who are the Orishas really?
This question has been summarily discussed in the last chapter. Nevertheless, let us delve deeper. Firstly, the
Orishas are high vibrational entities who reside in a world and universe as far removed from earth as
expeditiousness is from a snail. They are a group intelligence that contacted the false Earth through the people of
the Yorubas eons ago.
Similarly, the 17th century occultist, John Dee who served as court astronomer and advisor for Queen Elizabeth I,
had received contact with the Enochian ‘angels’.
The Orishas are not angels and operate on a far higher frequency and agenda since they possess and utilize free will.
Their realm which is accessible via astral projection or spirit vision to the trained Babalawo, Magi or Shaman, exists
in the upper worlds and is the perfect ecosystem as envisioned by O-ló-dù-ma-rè.
The Orishas are primordial archetypes at the very boundaries of manifest creation, and in practice helped seed the
real planet Earth with humanity. These deities are melaninated. They are black!
In a whitewashed world, polluted by the Lords of Darkness from the Lower worlds, black ultra -terrestrials are a
difficult proposition for the brain washed. The acceptance of this fact by the jaded is unnecessary and
inconsequential. Politically it is easier to accept little green men than fourteen-foot-tall black deities of wrath and
power like Shango, by the spiritually lobotomized masses.
Nevertheless, the Orishas proceeded directly from O-ló-dù-ma-rè, the supreme source of life, who exists outside
existence and yet emanates all existence. They are energy patterns ordained by the creator to now act as
psychopomps for humanity. Humanity is dead. But like Osiris, Dionysus, Persephone, Odin, Ganesha,
Lemminkainen, Tammuz, Krishna and Lord Jesus The Christ (Yeshua), there is a resurrection that awaits mankind.

∆∆∆

Humanity is kept in a low vibrational state by a host of malevolent entities, but primarily by the collective that I will
refer to as the Lords of Lower Darkness (LOLD). They are not evil, just amoral, opportunistic parasites. This
volume will not give too much attention to them as they are ultimately inconsequential. Suffice it to say that the
LOLD achieve their control with technology that polarises, distracts, hypnotises and sedates humanity. Thus,
creating a world that feeds the ego, which in turn feeds this collective of darkness. When your vibration is high, they
cannot feed off your àṣẹ or life force. Much in the same way that it is impossible to consume extremely hot food
without the potential for mishap.
Humans do not ride on tigers, crocodiles and bears but are able to do same with horses, donkeys and other animals
of the sort. This is because certain vibrations like the ferocity of the tiger make it impossible to sustainably control
and break the beast like one could a mere donkey.
These entities ride and control most humans as easily as a man would control a horse or a luxury vehicle. Humans
are brokered and sold as slaves in the astral realms much the same way we broker and sell each other as literal or
corporate slaves. As above, so below. We cannot outsmart the Fulcrum[29]. However, most humans are unaware of
these astral transactions, neither do they care because we are distracted and hypnotised by reality TV, inherited
responsibilities and the quintessential rat race.

Like a battery, humans are utilised for their àṣẹ and discarded when the flow tapers out. Much like a
racehorse is discarded when its utility has expired.
“When the Africans were taken from their homelands their conditions were no better. Herded together in one room,
they ate and pissed and cried, gave birth and died (many hundreds of them) together, kept in this one small hold like
cattle. No more and no less valuable, the priests and the peasants, the tribal kings, the cows and goats. All lay down
together, no division between them anymore. They were all equal now, and equally dispensable.”[30]
INITIATION TO THE ORISHAS

L ight is the source of all life and existence. Therefore, on the terrestrial Earth it is clear that without the
unconditional service and effervescence of the planetary Sun, almost all biological life on Earth would be
extinguished. This is a given. However, your true nature is ultra-biological, and the soul exists in infinite
dimensions, being un-encumbered by time and space as it were. Hence, the true life of the human spirit or existence
transcends the mere influence of the physical.
The Light that instigates, nourishes and perpetuates the existence of Soul is similarly of spiritual origin. The Divine
Architect is not merely the Light but is also the instigator and perpetuator of the Light, which is our spiritual and
cosmic sustenance.
This Light contains the celestial patterns and data that instantiates, organizes and perpetuates existence. The Orishas
are emanations of this Spiritual Light.
This is much the same way that visible light is comprised of a spectrum of different frequencies.
Beyond the factual and scientifically ratified statement that the structure of the cosmos is vibrational, lies the reality
that vibrations and frequency are simply fancy words for data.
The universe is informational (In-formation).
The Orishas are rarefied aspects of this information or frequency of the very same Divine Light that is the basis of
our existence. Interestingly, melanin is attenuated to this true divine vibration that the Orishas embody.
Initiation into the Orishas then simply means (In-it-I-ate). That is, to partake or eat from. To eat of the Light. This
Light is your true sustenance. This is of course how Lord Yeshua was able to abstain from food and drink for forty
grueling days and night. His nourishment and vitality were provided by the divine Light of the Father/Mother.
The Orishas from a psychological model perspective, are therefore active aspects of the psyche that can be invoked
and embodied to connect one to vital aspects of their own Godhood.
The African magi realised and romanticised this truth in their veneration of the Orishas, Ifá
and the Yoruba mystical tradition in general. The Oríkìs[31] act as energetic invocations and spiritual technologies
that opened portals to these realms of consciousness.
Initiation into the Orishas in its fullest intention is therefore, an escortion through your inner kingdom. The
exploration of the powers that lie latent or feral in your own psyche. When experienced, absorbed in gnosis and
exercised, this centers or spheres of power within the adept can aid immensely in not only the work of
enlightenment but in channeling this Light into the world. The very Light of abundance, peace, love and gratitude,
that is the home of the soul.
Each Orisha that we explore in this grimoire corresponds to a sphere in the map of the psyche, that can be likened to
the tree of life as understood kabbalisticallly. Remember, as above so below. Hence, when you interact with the
Orishas through spirit vision, pathworking or astral travel, know that you are interacting with parts of your own
psyche as earlier mentioned, as well as with deities in the external world of the greater universe.

By traveling up the Orisha Tree of Life, from Ògún through to Ọ̀rúnmìlà, the student can transverse their inner
space, invoking the essential aspects of these deities within their own psyche. You may climb to Òrúmnìlà through
any of the paths in the diagram below. However, the quickest and most balanced path is from Ògún, to Egúngún,
through to Obatalá and then to Ọ̀rúnmìlà. This is similar is approach to the middle pillar path described from the
perspective of the Zohar[32] by Western adepts like Israel Regardie.[33]
Drawing a correspondence here between the Orisha tradition and Near Eastern mysticism is pertinent and
instructive. Since many leading scholars, historians and theologians alike agree that the Yorubas, through Oduduwa
most likely migrated from that region.

Figure 1
“According to Ọyọ-Yoruba tradition, the ancestral Yoruba saw the Assyrian conquests of the Israelite kingdom from
the ninth and the eighth centuries B.C. from the perspective of the Israelites. After the fall of Samaria in 722 B.C.,
they were deported to eastern Syria and adopted the ruling Assyrian kings as their own. After the defeat of the
Egypto-Assyrian forces at Carchemish in Syria in 605 B.C. numerous deportees followed the fleeing Egypto-
Assyrian troops to the Nile valley, before continuing their migration to sub-Saharan Africa.” [34]
Regardless, successfully and periodically travelling the “middle pillar” of the Orisha Tree of Life, achieves
magnificent and manifold results. Firstly, through the auspices of the emanation that is the Orisha Ògún, the initiate
requests and re-establishes a grounding with ayé (Malkuth, the terrestrial) or the physical dimension. Remember that
a castle built on sand or shaky foundation cannot stand.
Here, Ògún who is not to be summoned lightly will act as a shield and anchor to physical reality and matter in all its
delicious grossness. With this foundation and protection in place, the child of light can then approach Egúngún,
who is the ancestral blueprint, with the aim of soul retrieval and reintegration. The adept meets with Egúngún
invoking the revelation of their ancestral script and the dissolution of ancestral garbage. Once firmly reconnected
energetically with the ancestral impetus, the adept can then proceed up the tree.
Hence, the sojourner will ascend to the sphere of love, splendour and purity embodied by Obatalá. Here the Orisha
Obatalá may assist in blossoming the lotus of the heart- Okan Mimó.
Obatalá creates the bridge across the abyss of hopelessness to the Light of wisdom embodied by Òrúmnìlà, the
second in command to O-ló-dù-ma-rè (the unknowable source of the light and purveyor of all existence).
Without this bridge of love and purity created by Obatalá, the adept would stumble blindly through the dark night of
the soul or the abyss, until they learned to respond to life proactively in love. Therefore, abiding in love and non-
reactiveness will herald the beginning of the connection with the wisdom embodied by Ọ̀rúnmìlà.
Once at the top of the Orisha tree of life, and after the initiation with Ọ̀rúnmìlà, what next? What are the practical
effects of these initiations and veneration to your everyday life? People not only desire positive growth and results in
their lives; they require it! They demand it.
Fortuitously, this grimoire is one of practical application and results.
Hence, the answer lies in one word; “àṣẹ!” This exercise with the Orisha tree of life opens us up to more Light, to
more àṣẹ.
As stated in a previous chapter, this proto substance in itself is the data stream of existence. It is the very essence of
The universal quantum field. Therefore, àṣẹ encapsulates all the good you could ever need or require from infinity. It
is the beneficence of the uncreated creator and Source, O-ló-dù-ma-rè.
It belongs to us by grace, yet as prodigals we must return to the house of light and abundance and bask in our
heritage, which is this very grace. It is àṣẹ that powers and sustains on the behest of the creator, your physical
vehicle and entire experience as a soul inhabiting a body.
There is no separation, only the illusion of separation exists. Hence, in this enhanced connection to the Light through
travelling the middle path, the adept becomes, illuminated. In this illumination exists the fulfilment of every thirst of
your body, mind and soul.
You may follow the left- or right-hand paths up the tree[35]. For instance, Ògún, Èṣù , Ṣàngó, Odùduwà and
Òrúmnìlà or Ògún, Ọṣun, Aje, Yemọja and Òrúmnìlà.
You will notice that the right pillar of the Orisha tree of life is populated by goddesses, and the left pillar by male
deities. These alternate routes are useful for initiates interested in re-enforcing the masculine or feminine aspects of
their psyche. But be sure you are ready to learn the lessons and endure the potential ordeals of such an approach. If
you are called to utilize any of the alternate paths (right, left or lightning), then by all means proceed, I have merely
stated that the middle path is the quickest and often least painful path.

PATHWORKING THE ORISHAS

P athworking is a variation of spirit vision and involves the process of astrally projecting up and around the paths
of the Orisha Tree of Life. This is done for initiatic purposes and to gain information, instructions, meet the
Orishas, and ask favours of them. A Babaaláwo may travel a system of paths emanating from the centre of the
Earth to God in order to learn more about the character of deity, receive instructions, and crave a boon. Some
popular writers have described any visualized journey as pathworking, and this has become the popular meaning of
the term.

Nevertheless, the origin of pathworking is truly rooted in antiquity and was subsequently popularized and developed
by Golden Dawn Adepts like Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers.[36] Nonetheless, the orally preserved and sacred
odu diloogun, patakí and orikis of the Yorubas were coded pathworkings to and between the deities and elementals
there romanticised. When correctly understood and implemented, utilising elemental correspondences and
symbology, these archetypical symbols offer a potent route to the Orisha current and initiatory route for the initiate
and neophyte. Verily, elemental pathworking is a splendid technique for developing personal skills, gaining
information, exploring the nature of spirituality, and psycho-energetic integration of fragmented aspects of the
psyche.

∆∆∆

At Orisha Rising, the Magister Templi, and Chief Babaaláwo, Magus Lyon (Kiniun Nla) has received and developed
pathworkings to The Great African Powers, vomited directly by the Orishas themselves during extended shamanistic
voyages to the Upperworlds.

Although sometimes called Progression Rituals and part of the repertoire of a magickal group, pathworking can
actually be performed by solo practitioners and with minimal ritual paraphernalia. However, adequate pre-ritual
banishing of the ritual environment is essential. Pathworking is of course not restricted to exploration of the Orisha
or indeed Kabbalistic Tree Of Life and can be utilised to access other realms of existence and contacts in the
multiverse.

Most commonly, pathworking involves a process of motion and visualization of walking along some type of path or
road. It may be that of a physical road, a road in the mind, or some other type of set pattern defined as such.
In this grimoire, each Pathworking is structured into four main statements. Each Statement corresponding to one of
the elements, namely Earth, Air, Wind and Fire. The consciousness of the practitioner acts as the fifth element;
Spirit.

Using her knowledge of Magick, Spiritual practices, Occultism, Santeria, Vodoun or Grey Magic, the practitioner
can break new ground by incorporating elements from all of these traditions into one coherent practice.

Pathworking is not a casual undertaking, for it means trials, hardships, and temptations, but ultimately triumph and
spiritual power. First one must pray to the Orishas to be allowed to explore their realms. Then one's magical power
must be developed until he can sustain himself in spirit vision (eye of the mind) for an extended amount of time.

When such conditions have been met, the initiate begins their journey
HOW TO PATHWORK
Formulate an intention for your pathworking exercise and write it down.
Study to show yourself approved by knowing the characteristics, corresponding colours and
temperament of the deity or Orisha whom you intend to approach. If possible, wear the colours or
have beside you some correspondence of the Orisha. For instance, Ṣàngó’s colours are white and red.
This is not compulsory but beneficial.
Purify and sanctify your body and ritual space, making sure you will not be disturbed for about 30
minutes. Banishing and invoking techniques are discussed in the next chapter.
Sit comfortably and imagine each sequence of the pathworking one after the other utilising your
imagination, which is akin to the chariot of the gods.
Spend at least one minute in each pathworking, making sure to utilise all your imaginative senses
(Astral senses)
At the end of the pathworking return to your normal reality and ground by performing mundane
chores or eating a light meal. Make sure to journal your experiences in your magickal journal.
ADVANCED ORISHA BANISHING RITUAL

T herealms
world is full of diverse influences, as the universe abhors a vacuum. Hence, even the unseen
teem with life of unimaginable profundity and expression. Some of these life forms are
deleterious to your spiritual operations. There is no professional surgeon that will undertake a medical
operation without sanitizing herself, her tools and ensuring a sterile environment for the procedure itself.
Likewise, for serious occult and magickal work it is absolutely imperative that the ritual space is likewise
sterilized before you begin.
Many have underrated this advice and received obsessions, delusions and psychic infestation for their
laziness and ignorance. That is not us.
The following ritual is an adaptation of the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram. The operation itself
holds immense power in evacuating a space of almost every psychic influence. It extends into the astral
realms and while creating a bit of a ruckus is as effective a banishing as you will find. In this grimoire the
archangelic influences though still very valid have been swapped for the Orishas. Here the seven great
African powers have been summoned and embedded into this operation.
The Orisha Banishing Ritual (OBR) serves to balance the magicians psyche and often with repeated
performance dislodge parasitic entities lurking in the practitioner’s psyche and affecting their auric field.
Consequently, this sustained practice among others will increase the Babalawo’s spiritual awareness and
connection with the Orishas, even before pathworking or invocation.
HOW TO PERFORM THE OBR

Stand or sit comfortably in the middle of a clean, quiet, uncluttered space. Assumably your regular
ritual environment.

Breathe in slowly from the nostrils, exhaling from the mouth in an almost cyclical manner. Perform
this cycle four times, slowly.

Now lift up your right hand above your head and say: “O-ló-dù-ma-rè[37], divine cosmic creator.
Father of all Light and spirits, let your divine light descend upon me. Centre my spirit within your
creation”. Imagine a brilliant beam of white light descend from an infinite source and location above.
See this light descend from the crown of your head through your body, out through the middle of
your legs and through to the Earth. See this light descend till infinity beneath you.

Now face the east and intone strongly from your diaphragm: “YUD HEY VA VAY”[38]. As you say
these words draw a pentagram in front of you following the direction of the arrow below, until you
have drawn an astral pentagram in flaming blue or white light. Once you can clearly see the flaming
pentagram with your mind’s eye, thrust both hands forcefully through it as if you are pushing open a
door (sign of the enterer)[39]. Return to position and put your right index finger over your lip as if
hushing a child. (sign of silence)[40]. Remember, you will do the exact same thing towards the four
main cardinal points after you draw the pentagrams.
Figure 2: Banishing Pentagram

Now turn a quarter to your right till you are facing the south and repeat the same procedure as above
but this time intoning powerfully: “ADD OH NA YEE!”
Now turn a quarter to your right till you are facing the west and repeat the same procedure as above
but this time intoning powerfully: “EH YEE YEA!”
Now turn a quarter to your right till you are facing the north and repeat the same procedure as above
but this time intoning powerfully: “AGA AH LA!”
Now take a moment to acknowledge the four flaming pentagrams around you. You should also by
now, be back to your original position of East. Say: “In front of me OYA!” See OYA the orisha of
change, manifestation and destruction before you. This is the cardinal point of the Air element.
Visualize her about ten feet tall in height, levitating above the ground in front of you, eyes flashing
and a powerful gust of divine wind whirling from her. You may also now invoke her influence by
asking for positive change in your life and the destruction of things that no longer serve you.
While still facing east say: “By my right SANGO!” See SANGO the orisha of lightning and
thunder, impetus, justice and will, before you. This is the cardinal point of the Fire element.
Visualize him about fourteen feet tall in height, levitating above the ground beside you, eyes flashing
like kernels of coal, and powerful heat, lightning and rumbling thunder emanating from him. You
may also now invoke his influence by asking for drive, energy and the impetus to achieve whatever
goal that concerns you.
While still facing east say: “Behind me OSHUN!” Visualize OSHUN the great orisha of love,
beauty, abundance and the divine feminine behind you. This is the cardinal point of the water
element. Visualize her about ten feet tall in height, levitating above the ground behind you, hear the
sound of rushing water like many waterfalls. A soothing, refreshing, loving flood of beauty, and love
flows from OSHUN to you. You may also now invoke her influence by asking that she imbue your
life with the same, love, beauty and abundance that she is renowned for.
While still facing east say: “By my left AJE OLOKUN!” See AJE OLOKUN the orisha of wealth
and manifestation to your left. Since this is the cardinal point of the Earth element visualize her
again, about ten feet tall in height, feet firmly on the ground besides you. Her eyes are otherworldly,
and she is draped in unimaginable finery. All the Orishas are. Sense, see and smell the beauty of the
Earth emanating from her. It’s wealth of treasures and its eternal love and protection issuing forth
from her. You may also now invoke her influence by THANKING her for her sustenance, wealth,
and loving kindness towards all your needs.
While still facing east say: “Above me ORUNMILA!” See ORUNMILA the orisha of divine
wisdom and the progenitor of ODU IFA, sat on a brilliant celestial throne far above your head or
crown chakra. Visualize him seated, draped in brilliant white and a brilliant ray of divine light and
wisdom cascading down towards you like soft feathers. You may also now invoke ORUNMILA’s
influence by asking for more Divine Light and wisdom to be operative within your life.
While still facing east say: “Below me OGUN!” See OGUN the orisha of iron, warfare, aye, the
terrestrial realm and matter beneath you. Visualize him about ten feet tall in height, eyes sparking
like hot metal. Feel the powerful flow of stability, grounding, strength and protection from him to
you. You may also now invoke his influence by asking for continued protection and connection to
the terrestrial realm. OGUN is particularly efficacious against obsessions, delusions and psychic
astral attacks. He is not to be trifled with. Some may choose to replace OGUN with ESU in this
position.
This last aspect is optional, but completes the seven orisha arrangement, while connecting you
powerfully to these forces. While still facing east say: “Where I stand OBATALA!” See
OBATALA the orisha of Love, purity and ascension standing on the same spot as yourself. Visualize
him about ten feet tall in height, eyes flashing like lightning, and love, peace, Powerful waves of
love, purity, peace and power emanate from him towards you. Feel the connection at heart level with
OBATALA. You may also now invoke his influence by asking for peace, love, purity and beauty to
reign in your heart and your life.
Now say: “About me flames the pentagrams, and in the middle pillar the six-ray star” (Visualize a
flaming hexagram, which symbolizes Source, above your head)
Now repeat the following invocation thus: “O-ló-dù-ma-rè, divine cosmic creator. Father of all Light
and spirits, let your divine light descend upon me. Centre my spirit within your creation”. Imagine a
brilliant beam of white light descend from an infinite source and location above. See this light
descend from the crown of your head through your body, out through the middle of your legs and
through to the Earth. See this light descend till infinity beneath you.

The Orisha Banishing ritual is complete and you may proceed with your main ritual exercise whatever that may be.
Utilize this ritual anytime you want to sanitize a space before a magickal operation.
ADVANCED ORISHA INVOKING RITUAL

The Orisha Invoking Ritual is similarly performed to the banishing ritual but for the notable distinction of
the direction in which the four cardinal pentagrams are drawn. (See illustrations in Figure 3 and 4).
Additionally, it serves a different purpose, as rather than banish elemental energy from within a ritual
space, it invokes it.
The ritual is a re-adaptation of the lesser invoking ritual of the pentagram. The operation itself holds
immense power in infusing a space or situation with raw àṣẹ. This is the energy that fuels manifestation.
The precursor to the physical realm. The elixir of light. The river of living waters.
Exoteric mystics like Albert Einstein elucidated the energy matter relationship elegantly enough, so we
shall not belabor the importance of this ritual.
Consequently, when there is the introduction of intention and emotion (energy or àṣẹ in motion) a
practitioner can supercharge manifestation. In this grimoire the archangelic influences though still valid
as stated earlier have been swapped for the Orishas. Here, the seven great African powers are again
invoked and embedded into the operation.
Furthermore, The Orisha Invoking Ritual (TOIR) serves to infuse energy into the magician’s psyche and
often with repeated performance will strengthen and expand their auric field. This can be observed in
daily life as increased personal magnetism, immunity to common infections, expanded intuition,
clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and astral projection among other effects.
Similarly, some practitioners have noticed quicker physical manifestation of emotion powered thoughts.
However, I must leave the following caveat emptor:
“Perform a gate closing such as OBR after TOIR!”
It might be hours or even a few days after you first open the elemental gates and invoke the energy of the
Orishas through TOIR but close the gates you must. The exception being a deliberate attempt by the
Babaaláwo to utilize the energy generated for intensive operations like alchemy, God-form assumption,
charging of talismans, consecration of altars and other such work. Regardless, it is polite to shut a gate
after yourself. Therefore, seeing that TOIR opens four elemental
flood gates, leaving them open long after you have completed your operation is a neophyte error.

HOW TO PERFORM THE TOIR

Stand or sit comfortably in the middle of a clean, quiet, uncluttered space. Assumably your regular

Now lift up your right hand above your head and say: “O-ló-dù-ma-rè, divine cosmic creator. Father
of all Light and spirits, let your divine light descend upon me. Centre my spirit within your creation”.
Imagine a brilliant beam of golden light descend from an infinite source and location above. See this
light descend from the crown of your head through your body, out through the middle of your legs
and through to the Earth. See this light descend till infinity beneath you.

Now face the east and intone strongly from your diaphragm: “YUD HEY VA VAY”. As you say

INITIATION AND PATHWORKING ÈṢÙ

“One offers this simple libation before praying to any orisha to bring coolness and freshness to our roads, to our
aché, to our homes, and to Eshu Laroye, an avatar of Elegguá. Heat or stagnation in these areas could hinder the
consultation. Our world is a place of hot and cold, stagnation and refreshment, growth and decline; when working
with the orishas, however, we put ourselves in a place where only evolution can be found. One works to remove
those things that overheat and destroy life. Eshu Laroye is both honoured and refreshed by this ritual gesture. He is
the companion of Oshún, the orisha who makes life worth living, and he is one of Elegguá’s most mischievous paths.
If we desire our prayers to reach the orishas, we must first honour and cool him so that he will help, and not hinder,
our communication. It takes only a moment to do this, yet it is one of the most crucial points in our invocation.”[43]
ṣù is the Orisha that connects you to all the other Orishas. He makes the connection with them sure and strong.
È He represents the archetype of self-deification, identity and divine personality. He also works with the Fates and
The Fulcrum. You must approach all other Orishas through Èṣù.
There are a few ways to reach Èṣù. Namely, through African Shamanic Journeying to the UPPER WORLDS and
through Elemental Pathworking.

PROCESS:
Firstly, make sure to have a ritual bath and clean your ritual space. No filth or clutter please! Next
perform a banishing of your choice (You can visualize being protected by a divine white light)
Utilizing OBR and TOIR is optional.
Now, while in a comfortable position visualize yourself going through the following path workings
one after the other.
At the end of the last path, Call Èṣù! Èṣù!!, Èṣù!!! (Three times). He will be there with you. Make
your request or ask to be guided to your preferred Orisha.

After he agrees, you must then perform the specific Pathworking to that Orisha in question. When done with your
requests, thank the Orishas and gradually come back to this reality. Ground yourself by journaling your experience
and then mundane chores.
PATHWORKING FOR ÈṢÙ
An old man with a crooked walking stick on a dirt path
The old man does away with his walking stick and begins dancing energetically like a young man to
the sound of drumming, large puffs of dust from his prancing fill the air
A young child dressed in red and black carrying a small red clay pot filled with water stands in front
of seven doors the child pauses then walks through the 7th door.
In the middle of a barren, desolate field a fierce burn fire burns, it’s flames attract the attention of
seven black ravens overhead, that fly anti-clockwise around the flame.
INITIATION AND PATHWORKING EGÚNGÚN

W hat is Egúngún?

The Orisha Egungun, may be described as a Yoruba masquerade or masked, costumed figure.

More specifically, Egungun is the archetype of the collective ancestry of a particular bloodline. It is a Yoruba
masquerade that typifies the cult of ancestor veneration, and acts as a vessel collectively embodied by the ancestors
themselves. They are a powerful link to your history.

Egungun is the archetype of your true purpose in this world. That purpose is to ascend and by so doing lift all your
ancestors and descendants with you to the new earth and away from the torment many of them experience. You are
psychically connected to them. When they hurt the reverberation will be felt by you.

“Ifá teaches the idea that you cannot know who you are if you cannot call the name of your ancestors going back
seven generations. The ability to call the names of your ancestors is believed to make it possible to seat our
ori(consciousness)in the world.

This is a uniquely African world view related to both the Yoruba concept of good character ( iwa-pele) and the
Yoruba concept of reincarnation ( atunwa).
Calling the name of your ancestors going back seven generations means you will be able to identify your own
previous reincarnation. Most children in a traditional Yoruba family have a naming ceremony (esentaye) within a
week after their birth. The ritual includes divination used to identify the former existence of the child and to identify
if the child comes from the mother or the father’s lineage. This identification gives the developing child solid
information on the previous lessons learned. In this way spiritual growth becomes an ongoing process that does not
have to begin anew with each incarnation.”[44]

You might be strong, pretty, tall, fast, artistic or cursed with a genetic disease. This is part of your soul genetics.
Infinitely more important than mundane genetics.

You cannot wish away your ancestors, no matter how wonderful or horrible they were. They are you and you are
them. To find peace and lasting prosperity you must walk with an intention, to free and lift your ancestors. If you are
African or especially of the diaspora, there is a great chance some of them still think they are enslaved, in torment,
seeking relief, peace and sometimes vengeance.
EGÚNGÚN'S POWERS (NON-EXHAUSTIVE LIST)
Egúngún can help you with soul retrieval and re-integration
Connect you with your ancestors for the purpose of empowerment
Restore purpose, security, clarity and restoring stolen timelines and destiny
Elevate your consciousness and teach you how to be fearless even in the midst of apparent
opposition.
Gives you access to ancestral wisdom and healing.
Can destroy hexes and unwind generational curses and parasites
Can strengthen your magical work and knowledge. Showing you dark and hidden wisdom.
Can empower your work with the 'dead'.
Make you victorious in competition and business.

You must approach all Orishas including Egúngún firstly, through ESU.

There are a few ways to connect with Egúngún. Namely, through African Shamanic Journeying to the LOWER
WORLDS and through Shamanic journeying or Elemental Pathworking. Here, we shall utilise Elemental
pathworking. Shamanic journeying will be addressed in a subsequent chapter.

It would serve the student to memorise ESU's pathworking and all others, as you will always need to go through
ESU first.

Pathworking Instructions:

Make sure to have a ritual bath and clean your ritual space. No filth or clutter please! Next perform a banishing of
your choice (You can visualise being protected by a divine white light)

Now, while in a comfortable position visualise yourself out of body and perform the pathworking to ESU. Ask him
to guide you to Egúngún.

Then perform the pathworking to Egúngún.

At the end of the last path, Call or Sing Egúngún! !Egúngún!!,Egúngún !!!(Three times). He will be there with
you. Make your request or simply sit and meditate or discuss with Egúngún.

This will be time well spent, But make sure you have an intention written down prior to performing any
pathworking. Do not dally or waste time in this state.

When done with your request (Only make one request at a time) or sense that Egúngún is ending the communion,
thank him and ESU and gradually come back to this reality.

Ground yourself by journaling your experience and then perform mundane chores or have a light meal. Drink
enough water. Water stores information and vibrations from the Divine, and your body is made up of over 80% of
the stuff.
EGÚNGÚN PATHWORKING

A desolate clearing of land under the moonlight. Suddenly there is rumbling, and, in the distance,
you can see a mighty anthill emerge from the ground.

Thick fog fills the air and you cannot see beyond an arm’s length. In the distance and also close by,
you can hear muttering, some muffled, others a distant moaning. There is the distinct smell of
sulphur.

A black lake. Stagnant and brooding. Suddenly in the distance you can see a massive Egúngún
(Masquerade) floating towards you.

A dark muscular figure is hunched over some firewood. It is completely naked save for a white loin
cloth around the waist. The figure is in shadow and only the silvery moonlight above catches its
outline. It appears to be waiting for you.
Initiation and Pathworking Ṣàngó.
Ṣ àngó is the Primordial Orisha of lightning and thunder. He is the archetype of the Divine masculine, Will,
Conviction and impetus. Ṣàngó has thundered in our ears that "The masculine principle is designed to serve and
not terrorise, oppress and destroy. That service and kingship should be indistinguishable”.

ṢÀNGÓ PATHWORKING

The sound of thunder rumbling, there is an earthquake and the earth is rent in four directions.

A double headed axe flies through the air cutting through everything in its path.

A bundle of six plantains tied to a red rope dangle from a solitary tree. The sky is grey and heralds a
storm as the rain starts to fall

A lion surveys its domain and roars. Lightning strikes the solitary tree consuming it in flames.
Thunder continues to rumble like the sound of war drums.
INITIATION AND PATHWORKING ỌYA

“The paths of Oya are nine. The Ancients taught that the Mystery had nine children that did not survive birth. To
remember these children, she wears nine multi-coloured scarves, one to represent each of her children. None of the
scarves are black, as black reminds Oya of the death of her children. Oya’s sadness is released in her anger when
she makes war and creates hurricanes and tornadoes.

The Houngans, Iyanifas, men and women of the Mysteries, are close to Oya. Oya’s nature is reserved and
mysterious. The Niger River has nine tributaries. Oya travels with nine of the Egungun, the Ancients. Oya is a great
Mystery.”[47]

O ya is the primordial Orisha of change and transition and hence connects the living and dead.

She is the archetype of the fulcrum and the interplay between mass and energy. In other words, she aggressively
represents Karmic balance, and administrates cause and effect, manifestation and destruction. Oya has thundered
into our ears that as children of Olodumare, mastery of manifestation and energy manipulation is our birth right.
Whatever you desire, first give it to the world freely and without desperation. And she will cause the fulcrum to
multiply and return the same to the giver. So, give wisely.

and the palm nut, and as soon as he had slung it over his shoulder, the young god began climbing down the golden
chain, lower and lower until he saw that he was leaving the world of light and entering a world of twilight.
Before long, Obatalá could feel the damp mists rising up off the surface of the water, but at the same time, he
realized that he had just about reached the end of his golden chain.
“I cannot jump from here,” he thought. “If I let go of the chain I will fall into the sea and almost certainly drown.
…The grains were therefore scattered in all directions. Wherever the grains fell, dry land instantly appeared. The
larger heaps of sand became hills, while the smaller heaps became valleys.”[52]

INITIATION AND PATHWORKING YEMỌJA

“Yemanja had assumed that her sister was in the market buying goods for court with God. Yemanja asked her sister
what she would be presenting to the Lord.
Oya responded that she was empty handed because what she would present to God was the spirits of the righteous.
She decided to take nine of the Egungun into the presence of God as her gift to God. Taking them would also be a
gift to the deceased ancestors of ancient humans. The Egungun were our blessed ancestors, those in our family who
have passed on to the realm of existence where the Orisha abide. Yemanja was surprised and pleased because she
knew of Oya’s aggressive nature. Altruism was not typical behaviour for the Mystery Oya.”[53]

Yemọja[54] is the orisha of the ocean, seas, lakes and rivers. She has dominion over all things in the water, which
includes weather and rainfall. She is often depicted or perceived by some as a beautiful black woman who floats
through the oceans in a boat made of hollowed out coconut shells and calabashes. She has been described with long
curly hair and wearing iridescent beads and ornaments. Her colours are white and blue, and her symbol is a silver
necklace with five beads placed close together
Yemọja or Iya mi (also spelled and known as Imari, Omi aro, and other variations) is associated with owning and
protecting worldly possessions. Yemọja is a very important influence within the Ifá tradition of Babalawos. Many
Babalawo will not work without consulting ESU, Orungan, Oduduwa or Yemọja.
Hence, Yemọja is a major water deity from the Yoruba religion. She is an orisha and the mother of all orishas,
having given birth to the 14 Yoruba gods and goddesses. She is often syncretized with either Our Lady of Regla in
the Afro Cuban diaspora or various other Virgin Mary figures of the Catholic Church.
Her other names include: Yemaya, Mother of Water, Mother of all Orishas,
Indeed, Yemọja is the primordial Mother of all Orishas. She is the archetype of the Divine Mother or Sophia and
epitomizes unconditional love. In reality her true abode exists in the watery realms of the upper world, beyond the
cosmic abyss of mundane consciousness.
Yemọja has whispered in our ears that darkness only exists in our soul when we choose who we love based on ego
and self-service.
In other words, to flood her realm and our subconscious with light, we must love unconditionally as she does. Only
then shall we cross the abyss and walk as Orishas ourselves. So, love wisely.
YEMOJA’S 'S POWERS (NON-EXHAUSTIVE LIST)
Yemọja can help solve blockages in your heart chakra and enable you connect with the divine unity

pathworking. Do not dally or waste time in this state.
When done with your request (Only make one request at a time) or sense that Yemọja is ending the communion,
thank her and ESU and gradually come back to this reality.
Ground yourself by journaling your experience and then perform mundane chores or have a light meal. Drink
enough water. Water stores information and vibrations from the Divine, and your body is made up of over 80% of
the stuff.

AFRICAN SHAMANISTIC JOURNEYS

W hat is African Shamanic Journeying?

If you are looking to learn about the Other World and its Demi-gods, then this is a great spiritual practice to
master.
Babaaláwo, Ifá Priesthood, Shamans, Santeros and other practitioners of indigenous traditional religions commonly
practice Shamanic journeying to seek advice from the Orishas and other entities. It is also utilised in soul retrieval
and healing practices, diagnosing and healing illnesses and identifying patterns of disorder in living.
Journeying is a universal phenomenon. The shamanic journey is traditionally undertaken to contact helpers,
teachers, or spirits for help or information. It may also be used to find a new home, hunting ground or fishing place.
From the Santeríans of Cuba to the Voudouns of Haiti, African based religions are exploding in popularity as
immigrants from those nations bring their traditions to America and the diaspora.
Orisha Rising introduces readers to the basics of shamanic journeying and provides in-depth explanations of the
origins and practices adhered to by practitioners today. Each tradition's perspective on the practice is explored, with
a focus on the African roots and practices that parallel many shamanic journeys around the world. For those in the
West, the shamanic journey is a rare gift. It is a somewhat mysterious ritual in which we are guided by our Spirit
teachers and helpers to connect to the Divine energies needed to make positive changes in our lives.
HOW TO JOURNEY
In this grimoire, Babaaláwo, Magus Lyon, founder of Orisha Rising and a practitioner of the Ifá tradition of African
divination, gives a detailed account on how to journey using the talking drum, bata[55] drum or kete[56] drum and
rattle. The instructions cover power raising, spirit attachment, and calls to the Orishas.
A Journey inward is a journey through many of the paths and roads that can aid in spiritual growth. Journeying can
help you to decide on a path or follow one you have chosen already. The information contained within is drawn
from 25 years of Babaaláwo experience, study, and research. Some of the effects a Babaaláwo can generate through
African shamanistic journeying include divination, Akashic record work, soul retrieval, familiar spirit retrieval,
dream interpretation, weather manipulation, exorcism, healing, and much more!
The rhythms that the drum create helps guide one through the transition in consciousness required for the journey.
Often made of solid bamboo with a calf skin head, some shamanic drums are stunningly beautiful as well as deeply
meaningful. If you do not have a drum, use a recording of one. We will be providing patrons with audio tracks at
Orisha Rising Patreon and our website. Make sure the drumming has a call back pattern towards the end that
informs you it is time to return to the body.
Journey... the word seems too casual to describe the experience of entering into an altered state of consciousness
through music. However, this technique shows you how to invite spirit into your life and share divine kinship
through drumming. Long recognized for their ancient culture, Africa's indigenous people are now able to bring the
world into a new age of spirituality.
Journeying is a powerful, portable, and easy to use ceremonial technique.
Rhythmic, primal drumming with a monotonic pace, has the ability to assist in journeying out of body, finding lost
items or people, divination, or even calling on higher spiritual authority. The Journey is an extremely versatile tool
which can be used for different purposes depending on the priest's intention. Consider it to be “your key” into
accessing other states of awareness and communication with the spirit world.
STEPS FOR JOURNEYING:
Allocate 15-30 minutes of undisturbed time for your journey
After purifying and sanctifying the ritual space, draw the blinds and darken the room.
Optionally perform the Bornless Ritual to raise power(This ritual has been modified to African taste
and will be released in a subsequent post)
Ask your assistant to start a steady paced drumming or switch on your recording
While blind folded and sat in a relaxed position with back straight, start listening to the drumming
with the exclusion of everything else.
Let the drumming alter your state of consciousness.
When you are ready, see yourself standing in front of the world tree. The world tree is a gigantic
astral tree that extends into the heavens and is utilised for upper world journeying
For lower world journeying, find a bottomless pit. For middle world journeying, find a door in the
middle of a pleasant garden. We shall concentrate here on journeying to the upper world.
For journeying to the Orishas, climb the tree to the upper world. Making sure to go through three
levels of cloud systems. On the third level call ESU! ESU!! ESU!!
Once ESU appears let him be your guide to any Orisha you wish to visit. He will take you directly to
their abode in the upper worlds(Which represents the higher aspects of your psyche)
When you hear the call back pattern, it is a signal to thank the Orishas and return through the tree
and the three levels back to the base of the tree.
Make your way back to your body and slowly open your eyes
Ground yourself by journaling your experiences, performing mundane tasks or/ and having light
COUNCIL OF ORISHA MASTER RITUAL

T heof their
Council of Orisha Ritual involves meeting with the Great African Powers in the Astral realm for the purpose
assessment of your spiritual growth towards the light of Olodumare. Here they provide group advice,
consecration, commission and most importantly empowerment. Think of them as your divine support system of
ultra-terrestrial deities. They are aspects of your psyche, but also self-existing embodiments of energy that exist in
the greater universe, outside your holographic mind.
While you are already all-powerful, being the child of God, the active word here is child. We will always be children
to our parents , no matter how big or successful we become in life. This is a good thing. The innocence of childhood
is what allows you to stay curious and humble enough to absorb spiritual wisdom and grow. Here you are not
extolled to act like a child but to be childlike. There is a stark difference. You can meet with the Council through
African shamanic journeying to the upper world in their own realm as described in the previous chapter of this
grimoire, or you may do so by visiting the consecrated grounds of TORAS.

THE ORISHA RISING ASTRAL SANCTUM (TORAS)
The Orisha Rising Astral Sanctum (TORAS) is a multi-layered astral structure that rises into the sky on twelve
columns. The structure itself is used as a point to focus the energy of one's ritual and meditation. It has an open room
on the first floor with multiple smaller rooms leading off from it for private meditations. The bottom storey of the
Astral Temple is a small courtyard, that you can use in your magical workings. This layer corresponds to your
fertility altar, where you may choose to do any workings of healing, change, growth and power.
An astral sanctuary is a temple, a place to do quiet meditation and or magick, when needed. It should be easily
accessible at all times for these purposes. Within this sanctuary we will work on building the places you will need
and the spaces where you have your tools on the astral plane.
The Astral Temple is a place of sanctuary, that you can have available at any time and from any place. Magicians
build their temples specifically for the astral environment, with specific features and tools to aid in their magical
workings.
Astral temples are a rare and important place where magicians can create an anchor for their energies when they
perform magic and perform rituals. Initiates, Babaaláwo, Witches, Adepts and the few that reach the highest degree
of initiation within IFA, will often spend time building their temples in the Astral plane so that they can have a
sanctuary where they do their magick. This workshop will show you how to visit The Orisha Rising Astral Sanctum
(TORAS)
WHY VISIT (TORAS)?
The Orisha Rising Astral Sanctum, or TORAS, is a gigantic, powerful, temple that is located in the astral plane.
Every Sunday its doors are open for patrons to visit the lower temple ground, guarded by fierce astral guardians.
Within the foyer is an alter with the consecrated temple book. Visitors who are able to write their petitions in this
book, which is consecrated by the Council of Orishas, will have the petition manifest in the physical world.
TORAS is a place of sanctuary and magic for the adept or budding Babaaláwo. This astral temple also contains
every paraphernalia, herbs, equipment you will ever need for your rituals. TORAS also has a fountain beside the
west wing of the foyer that flows living water directly from OSUN's realm. Open every Sunday, this water has
spiritual healing properties and patrons can drink from its spring each time they visit.
For those who are new to Yoruba initiation, this is a chance to further explore your craft.
TORAS is a place to perform magick rituals and is a sacred structure created in the higher astral planes. It is our own
private magical space where we can go to do spells, to meditate on our visions, or perform ritual. Having an astral
sanctuary where a magickal group can go periodically is extremely beneficial for spiritual growth.
HOW TO ACCESS TORAS
Ensure it is a Sunday. TORAS is closed to patrons on any other day and fiercely guarded.
Purify as always, yourself and your physical space.
Make sure you are not disturbed for at least 30 minutes.
Now relax and in your mind’s eye, see a flight of steps leading into the Sun.
TORAS is built in the Astral Sun and is purified and energised by it.
Visualise a gigantic glistening temple with two pillars of fire on both sides of the entrance.
It is guarded by two ferocious giant astral lions. They will not let you pass until you make the secret
sign of entry and say the magickal words. In this written grimoire we have chosen to omit the secret
sign and the magickal words as entry is vetted and restricted to specific TORAS patrons, guests,
adepts and Babalawo. To be considered please visit Orisha Rising Patreon or [Link]
Once at the temple door, again make the secret sign on the door and it will let you in.
Go to the altar in-front of you, where you will find the Temple Book of Light. Write your petition in
it.
Write the petition three times as a question. For instance: Why did I get the promotion? How come I
got the promotion? How did I get the promotion? Do not attempt to answer your rhetorical question
at any time.
Next write the name of your preferred Orisha for the request underneath the three questions, thank
the Orisha and back away from the altar. Do not turn your back to it. Back away until you are out of
the foyer.
Next simply seat at the alter and call on the Council of Orishas and they will appear. Be brief and
straight to the point when they arrive.
You may explore the lower levels of TORAS, meditate on its beautiful grounds, or return to your
body and everyday consciousness by going through the doors and walking down the steps where you
will see yourself at the bottom, still eyes closed in your physical body.
Slowly open your eyes and ground yourself by journaling your experience or eating a light meal.
Drink plenty of water.
ADVANCED ORISHA GODFORM ASSUMPTION
RITUAL

T hepower
following is probably one of the most staggeringly powerful rituals you will come across for utilising the
of the Orishas.
While many Babaaláwo and priests will argue the importance of countless sacrifices, including fruit and animal
sacrifices, what they often omit is the process of embodying the power of the Orishas within the human temple.
While it is certain that the Orishas enjoy physical sacrifices, dances, chanting, and other ritualistic shenanigans,
experience has shown that the greatest veneration is partnership. The greatest way you can partner with any spirit or
deity is by hyper-controlled possession, or what may be called assumption.
This grimoire does not recommend wanton or uncontrollable possessions as a practice, due to its unpredictability,
lack of subtlety, and general sans of usefulness. It may mesmerize tourists and culture vultures, but it soon leaves the
priest drained, unbalanced, and most times unfit for public service or any kind of real service for that matter. It is
also extremely dangerous as it creates unnecessary strain on the subtle bodies of the priest.
Uncontrolled ritualistic possession also often leads to obsessions, ego-inflation and in a susceptible priestess,
psychosis.
Hence, the preferred adept level manner for integrating with the great African powers is mounting or as I prefer to
term it assumption. Here, the orisha or in some cases the entire Council of Orishas integrate their light to
supercharge the adept, and this energy enables the Babaaláwo connect and converse with their personal orisha called
The ORI. Western occultists like Aleister Crowley[57] have called this entity THE HOLY GUARDIAN ANGEL.
In Yoruba Mysticism, the Ori[58] connects the human spirit directly with Olodumare. It is the “treasurer of the soul
and the protector of the vital energies”. It has never incarnated into the lower gross realms of ayé[59] yet is the aspect
of you that exists in the highest realms, orun[60], and oversees your adventures and education in the lower strata of
manifest creation. “ It is the reflective spark of human consciousness embedded into the human essence and is often
personified as an Orisha in its own right”.[61]
A whole book can be written on this Orisha. However, this grimoire is about result oriented magick and not for
intellectual flailing , overstimulation and nit picking.

The ORISHA GODFORM ASSUMPTION RITUAL (TOGAR) is an adaptation of the ancient headless ritual from
the Greek Magical Papyri. As earlier stated, it is not robbery to interpose Yoruba mysticism with Near Eastern
mysticism and especially Hellenic and Egyptian esoterism, since the Yorubas through Oduduwa most likely
migrated from these parts after the Egypto-Assyrian wars.
Nevertheless, the ritual is extremely efficacious in the exorcism of dark spirits, banishing a space, empowerment of
the Babaaláwo and connection with the Ori.
To connect with your Ori or Holy Guardian Angel, and in so doing converse with it, you must first know its name.
Since it has never been incarnated, this is no simple task. The process of finding out this name involves contacting a
trained Babaaláwo who through an assessment of your natal charts can discern it. This is the name you must utilise
in the incantation to connect with your Ori.
Similarly, you must have a magickal name that is different from your birth name. One utilised in magickal
operations and that the spirits know you by. Getting and being comfortable with your magickal name is your affair.
Again, it may be received in a dream or from a trained specialist. If you require help in these two areas, please feel
free to contact Orisha Rising or your Babaaláwo.
As an adept one should already have these names. Note that the original barbarous words of the ritual which have
been replaced by the arguably magickally superior Yoruba are not to be literally translated in the mind as such.
Rather, the words must be intoned from the diaphragm loudly and strongly. The English translations given below are
merely direct or symbolic translations of the numerologically arranged barbarous words in the ancient ritual itself.
Do not bother about why the words are used the way they are. Their esoteric meanings will intuitively come to you.
You only need to intone the Yoruba incantations in BLOCK LETTERS and words in bold. The loose original
meaning of the barbarous words as translated in English can be ignored and not intoned or spoken.

For empowerment, your proclamation should be :

“Hear Me, and make all Will, all Spirits subject unto Me: so that every Spirit of the Firmament and of the Ether:
upon the Earth and under the Earth: on dry Land and in the Water: of Whirling Air, and of rushing Fire, and every
Spell and Scourge of God may be obedient unto Me.”
For the purposes of exorcism, the proclamation should be replaced with: “Deliver so and so from the darkness that
restrains him!”
For the purposes of banishing the proclamation should be thus: “Deliver me, (use magickal name)., from any and all
demons, death, defilement, illness, impurity, infirmity, pain, plague, or poison that restrains me!”
Finally, for connection and communion with the ORI the proclamation should go thus:
“Send to me my Bornless friend and guardian, my supernatural assistant, my ORI, my holy guardian angel! Send to
me the spirit XX(Here insert the known name of your ORI. If unknown, generalize). whose duty it is to guide, lead,
assist, and protect me through this and all lives!”

What follows is the main ritual.

“Such are the Words!”
EPILOGUE

W elcome to the future, where Orishas are not just whispers in the dark. Where they are real, live and active
entities with whom you can communicate. Where you can experience all their love, care and protection. Where
the secrets of the Universe are revealed to you in a simple yet clear language. Where you can learn about your
personal guides, what they want for you, what they require of you and how they plan on manifesting in this reality
that is your life for this period of space-time. Where wisdom is no longer reserved for Elders or ceremonies but
genuinely understandable by each of us here in this modern world.
Welcome to the future, where technology and spirituality unite. Where you can communicate with the Orishas in a
way never before possible. Where you can learn about their purpose for your life, their relationship to you, how they
can help you create your best possible future, and much more.
This grimoire is intended as a deep dive into the Orishas, one of the most important spiritual forces in the world.
Through it, identify and then channel your personal Orishas for a better life.

The Orisha are your best friends. Where you can ask the questions, you need the answers to, and they will give them
to you. Where they show you, what needs to be done and how it is done. Where you not only venerate them, but
they reciprocate by lifting you up to the world. They are not only respectful of you, but of other children of the
light. A future today, where Orishas are here for you at all times.
If you must take one thing away from this grimoire, it is that in this life you must never react to events but only
respond to them. When you react, you are a victim. When you respond powerfully after reflection, then you let the
light of Olodumare flow through the situation. Then you will realise that all is illusion. And that the only reality is
the Light. The very same light that only you can let shine through to the world.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

M agus Lyon is a spiritual teacher, Author, Coach

predominantly with the African Orishas.
and adept who works with a variety of currents but

When the Orishas are venerated, understood and their energies channeled by the descendants of the root genealogy
and their sympathisers, the problems that bedevil Africa as a continent and by extension the world as a collective
will be contained, transmuted and utilised by humanity.

These problems are rooted in a crisis of identity. Hence, this is where the solution must reside. This is a spiritual
work akin to that undertaken by John Dee with the Enochian angels in helping establish the British Empire.

However, Africa is much more than an empire. It is a spiritual hub and contains the planetary heart. It is where the
first true human breathed air and danced with the primordial Orishas. When the planetary heart is healed the true
light of source will flow out to the whole world and into the heart of humanity.

When the true light that shines from O-ló-dù-ma-rè is channeled by competent Babaaláwo across the world, the
planetary heart will begin this journey of healing.
