Formulation and Evaluation of Lansium domesticum Leaf Powder Candle as a
Natural Mosquito Repellent
Background of the Study
People have been experiencing symptoms caused by mosquitoes and it cannot
be denied that this has become one of the most serious problems for people. Most of
people had the unpleasant experience getting bitten by a mosquito, which can caused skin
irritations through an allergic reaction but it has a more serious consequence which is the
transmission of serious diseases and viruses such as malaria, Zika virus, West Nile virus
and etc. Also one of the reason is, it is available or the ingredients are available in the
environment, it is portable and cheaper/simpler to prepare than the other katol products.

Statement of the Problem /Objectives
Rancho, Erick and Galope Ramos (n.d.) stated that more mosquitoes are
swarming around us during this time of year, and some of them are carrying the dengue
virus, which if ignored, can be fatal to humans or can caused a serious problem. The
objective in this study is to know if does the Lansium domesticum Leaf Powder candle
/incense show significant repellency against mosquitoes and to know how does the
repellency compare with commercial mosquito coils or candles.
Significance of the Study
The importance in this study is, it will help the people go be protected and to
avoid mosquito bites, It can also help to reduce the case of disease like dengue, malaria
and Zika virus. If it proves to be effective, it could offer a more affordable and accessible
alternative than the commercial mosquito repellents or to other existing product. It is also
more environmentally friendly and safer than the commercially available one because it
doesn’t contain dangerous chemicals.
Scope and Limitations
The scope in this study is, it clearly states that the study will focus on
formulating and evaluating the Lansium domesticum. The part of the Lansium
domesticum that are going to use is the leaf but as for more effectiveness the researcher
also want to include or use the Lansium domesticum peel. This study does not cover the
idea of what would be the effect of the product to other insects, instead the study focuses
on the effect of the product to mosquitoes, if it could be possible solution to decrease
even a little the number of mosquitoes and help the other [Link] get protected by the
mosquito bites.
