Pilot Test

On Saturday, the 22nd of June, I went to Darling Harbour to do a pilot


test for Selective high school Placement test because of the following
year in which we used computers to do the test.

I left my dad at the gate of ICC and went into the test centre. The
instructors told us to leave our bags beside a wall and told us only to
bring a water bottle, two pencils, rubber and the rest of the things
stayed with our bags outside. I went to a separate room and was
allocated a Section number. I was 6. On the table was a large
computer and the person in front of me sat the other way, allowing for
no cheating. We had a little time before we started the practise test.

We did the reading rest first which lasted for 40 mins, however 30
questions. I finished with 15 mins left which allowed me to check the
questions again to verify if they were correct. After the reading test,
we had a five minute break and we were able to get out of our seats if
we wanted but only to go to the toilet, otherwise we had to sit in our
seat.

Then we started to do mathematical reasoning which also lasted 40


mins. It however had 35 questions and when I had finished, I had 10
mins which I used to check. I used my test letter to work out. After this,
I had a 20 mins break. At this break, we were allowed to go outside
and have something to eat. I ate a Mini Oreos packet and a bar that
had the flavour of cookies and cream. I also saw some classmates
there.

After the long break, we had to do the most stressing test in the whole
exam, thinking skills. It was 40 questions with 40 mins so you had to
do question 1 min per question. I used my test letter to work out again,
and I had five minutes left until the end of the exam. I used that time
to check questions I was unsure with. After this we had another short
break, longer than the other short break by 5 mins. So this one was 10
mins.
Then, we had our writing test which I realised was the same one as the
one my big brother had done in his selective test. It was about how you
had to write a diary entry from the future at your age with the
following sentence. When I heard my house robot’s loud singing, I
remembered that… I based it on a previous writing task. This test was
30 mins.

Finally, I went back home with my parent, eating some snacks along
the way. It was a wonderful experience and prepared me for the
upcoming online selective test.
